On 24/7 Mayweather said his body is breaking down and that he probably shouldn't be fighting anymore. Is this a ready made excuse if things don't go to plan for him.
I think he'll win but is he preparing the excuses just in case and if Hatton does manage to pull off the upset will these excuses take the shine off of his greatest achievment.
Maybe Floyd is just being honest. People age differently and it would explain why he retired so young the first time. As much as I dont like Floyd, I dont think he would ever take a fight with someone he wasnt 99% sure he would beat. So I cant see this being an excuse incase he loses. That said, if he loses Im sure excuses will be all we hear about...
I don't know, sometimes I think Floyd just says schit and really isn't all that deliberate in what he says. Sort of like he's just talking out load, sounding it out. He's so full of contradictions in what he says, I don't think you can read into what he says all that much.
Exactly.
And something else, how can guys like Harry Greb (400 some fights), Archie Moore, Henry Armstrong, Ray Robinson and numerous other legends have well over a hundred fights each (and some close to 200 pro fights) and Mayweather be all worn down and tired and needing some midol? With his modern day training regime, in the plushest of life styles and with a possee hovering around him waiting on him hand and foot, how can he say that kind of stuff with a straight face?
I call B.S.
This Is a very valid point. Can you Imagine 100-200 professional fights In a boxers career. You have to laugh when a guy like Mayweather at 30 yrs old crys that his hands hurt and his body Is breaking down after 38 fights.Sure your hands hurt It's boxing.I hate to have to say this because I will be straight forward and right up front with you, I cannot stand Mayweather(as I'm sure many on the board feel the same way.)but I see no way an aggressive straight forward Ricky Hatton style beats Floyed.Ricky will be there until the final bell but I do not look for him to win more than 3-4 rounds If that.Although I would love for Hatton to make a complete asshole out of me and knock Floyd out within 5 rounds.Oh well It's nice to wish.
Bernard doesn't have hand problems and its a completely different body. Bernard would step on Floyd. 6'0 to 5'8. 175 to 147.
Why are you assuming it is his hands. He never said anything about his hands, he said his body is breaking down, and he has been very open in the past about his hands.
jamaica queens in the house..
i doubt floyd is lying tho.. i mean.. he wouldnt do that treatment shit for nothing.. i mean. i do think he overtrains at times..
he knows what he is doing.. hes a great fighter.. i hate him as much as i like him..
EXCELLENT POINT using B-Hop as an example!!!!!!!!!!!!! That hadn't even crossed my mind, B-Hop is a well known gym rat as well.

If hopkins can fight on at 42 after being in competitive fights for 20 years then floyd can't say shit. He's in great shape and in his prime. He's just saying that so he can fall back on it incase he loses. Hatton seems the more determined fighter of the two by far.
At the end of the last 24/7 episode when Hatton when in his car you could see it in his eyes that he's ready.
"On Dec 8th I'll be oblivious to tiredness, I'll be oblivious to pain. I'm ready for this one, I'm ready"

If he wins, it's a ready made excuse to not fight Cotto next, becase that is the fight the public will demand.
If Floyd loses I won't honor any excuses by him. He didn't just start having hand problems. Hatton would deserve full credit for a victory. He won't win though.
If it is mind games he is playing he must be trying to lure Hatton into a false sense of security but I'm sure Hatton knows his opponent to well to be fooled by this.
in the game of mind games. Even though Hatton knows this but it a little information came into his mind on this he will take some hope one Floyd joints just a little thinking that could enter his subconsous thinking
You may be right, but me personally I never kept up with Hopkins career like I do Floyd so it only a matter of opinions.
I watch them both train, believe me that they're not very far apart, if at all. Hopkins' routine at the age of 42 would make a normal 25 year old double over in pain.
thats ALWAYS been the case with Hatton..
Floyd is just now saying his body is BREAKING DOWN, which may very well be the case, but if so, WHY ARE YOU DANCING WITH THE STARS BEFORE A BIG FIGHT..
ahem.
Finally you're being reasonable. When you're not being a fucking asshole you're a pretty good poster.
As a fan of Floyd I question that move also. The only logical explantion I could come up with was for promotion.
I like you bro, but you know absolutely nothing about Hopkins. You've obviously never seen him train. Even at the age of 42 he's every damn bit as good as Mayweather with his training ethic. Hopkins is a true "gym rat" through and through, as is Mayweather. Meaning both fighers, eat, sleep, shit, and die in the gym.
This is why Bernard is able to fight at the age of 42. (and win)

So going by some people's logic, Hatton is also trying to make an excuse in case he loses..By confessing binge drinking and eat??? His he trying to take away credit from Mayweather if he loses as well???
He was interviewed just after the fight, and he said the rumours werent true. Then a few days, maybe even a week or so he said he did have hand problems leading up to the fight, but they didnt disrupt his training AT ALL. When the reporter said some people may see this as excuse making, and asked what he would like to say in reply, he said he didnt want to take anything away from Joe on what he described as "his night". He is a real man, humble and honest to the end, and gracious in defeat. It is just a pity the same cant be said for Mayweather.
On a side note: This has just come to me, bit off topic and I apologise, but do you think Floyd would get so much stick for being boring, a coward etc, if he wasnt such an arrogant little cunt?
Ofcourse but i also think its because his the P4P best fighter in the world so people focus on him, I can tell you alot of arrogant fighters like james Toney..Carl froch (england)..Naz, People dont like you when you re successful and show it off.
his body breaking down.. is it an excuse? it very well could be, then again it could very well be happening. but i do know he shouldn't have done dancing with the stars if his body is breaking down like he says
I understand your point but it all boils back down on how you took the line when Floyd stated it on 24/7. IMO I didnt take it as an excuse because he didnt seem to be discourged. (just my opinion on the matter) He was trying to get treatment for his "soft hands"
The thing that got me was one of the posters in this thread made a statement about Hopkins in Floyd. WTF just because Hopkins is fight at 42 that really doesnt mean Floyd have to. I seriously doubt Hopkins has the type of work ethic Floyd has so it kinda ludacris to compare the two IMO.
I know every fighters body goes through their deteriation phase but the show 24/7 is apart of their life and it just so happen Floyd went to therapy on the show. The point I'm trying to make some guys just look for the simple, smallest little thing to downplay Floyd (not talking about you)
