People forget Trinidad was retired already when he came back and lost to Winky, and although Trinidad got outboxed 12 rnds, I felt Winky gave me one of the most boring fights I've ever seen. Thats why I don't care for Winky. It's called boxing, not knockouts. Yeah It's called boxing, not boring...
i still dont understand why people think WRIGHT is boring.
It bothers me to this day.
Taylor-Wright was FOTY stuff.
Wright-Soliman was very exciting, as was Quartey-Wright.
Wright-Trinidad i also thought was entertaining. Not edge of ur seat thrilling, but entertaining cause the announcers and crowd were REALLY into it

You're making excues.
Hopkins was out of his prime too.
Trinidad was out of his prime too.
Mosley at 154? What the fuck was he doing there?
Taylor didn't he just get ko'd by Pavlike?
Vargas win over Quartey is more impressive then Winkys win over Quartey.
Does Vargas get any credit for the fighters he lost to? Cause after all, he did give every one a tough fight. Does that count for something?
Okay, so Winky's wins were out of their prime, fair enough...
What about Vargas's wins? Were they out of their primes? No one knows, because he didn't have any of those wins.
And now you are downgrading a performance from Wright against Taylor, because he lost his first fight of his career against a fellow undefeated fighter, hmmm.
Lastly... Mosley at 154? WTF was he doing up there? Knocking Vargas out twice if I remember correctly.

Im not saying anything about Vargas, i think he's a great fighter, but Wright is a shoe-in for the hall of fame and i think that its undisputeable.
Vargas has 5 big names on his record
Mosley, Trinidad, Wright, De La Hoya, and Quartey.
He got knocked out by three of them in very competitive fights, spanked Quartey, and won a controversial decision over the last one.
I mean, Wrights ledger against big names is much better
You also got two differnt mentalities and fighters.
Winky is don't get hit and try not to get hit.
Vargas is all warrior and somtimes a warrior can lose but he comes back and wins again.
Winky made a name off of Trinidad. You can say Mosley, but Winkys stock really took off when he fought Trinidad.
Vargas has always been a fighter on the rise taken on tough opponets and show a kill or get killed attitude in the ring, even if it ment losing by ko. But it did get him a ton of boxing fans to pay to see him fight. Winky waits for the big names to fight cause even if he fought a top ten fighter he would have a hard time getting fans to see him fight.
Or because his rivals thought he was an uncorfortable and he has to wait for his chances.
Some guys preferred that mentality altought the loses and...other don´t, it´s up to everyone
Mosley 2x, Trinidad, Taylor, Vargas (shoulda won), and Quartey, and then moves 20+ pounds above his natural weight class to give THE LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT champion a very tough close fight...
Not to mention the fact that Wright did 90% of this OUTSIDE OF HIS PRIME...
I mean, unless Wright doenst get any at all for anything... he's a shoe-in for the hall of fame

Not really. Anyone who truly apperciates boxing would choose Winky by a mile. Vargas is entertaining, but you don't go at the end of the day and say "Wow that guy had a ton of skill" like you would Wright.
Vargas had a ton of skill too, lets not forget this.
When years pass by and new fans come in and ask about Winky sure they'll probably hear, "he was a great defensive fighter."
But when they watch him fight, like his fights against say Quartey, Taylor, Hopkins, there going to say "Winky got hit a lot for a defensive fighter."
And that is being honest. Anybody who thinks Winky is some defensive wizard, doesn't know what he is talking about.

So...
Vargas = More popular fighter.
Wright = Better fighter.
Right? That's what I got from your post.
His biggest win is over Trinidad the other Mosley, and he lost to Hopkins and Taylor (guys his weight). So unless he gets credit for losing....

Vasquez had like 50 wins most by KO when Wink fought him....no doubt Wink lost that fight but it showed him the way tpo becoming the great fighter he became...anyone comparing Winks success to Vargas is crazy..Wink HOF...Vargas....ahh maybe..nah I don't think so fat boy Gatti.
Vargas will always get more love then Winky in the boxing circles.
Atending to that record you have shown how can you sostain that Vargas made a name for himself and winky had take it off? double victories and he has finished all his fights...including his 4 loses...thats something i cant say of Vargas

Yes, you got me, 4 losses to 4 losses, I'll be right by the end of the week ;)
In seriousness though, he has lost a lot more considering how few fights he has been in.

You're wright, "The dude that has lost a hell of a lot more than Wright." WRIGHT?
He has, trust me... Hyperion is the biggest Winky Wright fan on this board I think, even though he likes Morales more... he is very passionate about the guys he likes.
He was one of the first to explain to me what the Harry Simon fight looked like. I think he called Julie Lederman an ugly cunt too. Real funny shit.
if he has seen the fight, he must be a huge fan of Winky by still calling him to be undefeated
For me was an incredible fight to watch, and Winky had the skill to won that one...but i think he wasn´t ready for that , Vasquez was a real hard puncher with definitely 1 punch ko power, and at that point,Winky wasn´t the defenssive fighter he is nowadays and, also, he was a lot more agressive, and then, more self-discovered
Great fight
Did HBO or another American network cover that fight?
