Ozell Nelson has taken over training, but they have contact Taylor's former trainer Pat Burns to come back and help Taylor for the Pavlik rematch.
Nelson to Train Taylor!
Nelson to train Taylor!
Tuesday, November 13 2007
Trainer Ozell Nelson will assume the head trainer duties for former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, replacing Hall of Famer Emanuel Steward. Nelson was Taylor's amateur coach and was a key camp member throughout Taylor's career. "Manny is a great coach, a Hall of Famer," Nelson told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "I very much respect Emanuel Steward. But I feel like things were going real good in training camp, but when we got to the fight, there was a communication problem. I don't know why there were the breakdowns . Sometimes fighters and trainers just don't click."

This not a bad move at if it is true. Steward and Jermaine Taylor were like oil and water they shit just didn't mix. Should have never gone away from what got him there in the first place. Jermaine showed no loyalty with that move.
I agree. They should have gone back to Pat Burns. Ozell Nelson has been giving Taylor some bad advice. I think his chances in the rematch with Pavlik has dropped considerably now. Not that there was much of a chance of him winning anyways.

PS. Could someone tell me how to quote?
I think if Taylor actually LISTENED to Steward during a fight, he might not have looked so bad in his last 3 fights.

This is a should work out pretty good for Taylor. Steward and him just didn't gel too well. Will be interesting to see who's going to train him from now. There have been rumors of Freddie Roach.
Good for both guys. Taylor doesnt like to listen to Manny, and Manny doesnt seem to be helping Jermain get better. Good break, but would have been better if it had happened a few fights back.
Stewart is probably not the trainer for Taylor.
Stewart is a trainer who gets into the technical and analytical side of boxing and Taylor just does'nt seem to pay attention when Stewart gives him all that information.
Personally I like trainers like Stewart
Trainers like Stewart make me see the artistic side of boxing.
Maybe Taylor needs a more aggressive trainer to hype him up and not bore him.
It really depends on the boxer
Where are the other threads about this news? I had no idea Taylor and Steward parted ways. I don't see any information online confirming this. If this is true, does anyone know who will train Taylor when he faces Pavlik again?
Jermain won't beat Pavlik in my opinion so it doesn't matter. Maybe with his old trainer back his jab could be resurrected.
I don't think Jermain trains enough. He punched himself in the 2nd freakin round. All that bullshit movement and Pavlik still was nailing him with the jab and whatever he threw. Jermain's defense is really flawed.
