Most here know Ive been talking up a big game for Shane in this fight. I was 99.9% certain of him coming out with the victory.
I DO feel shane won a close decision. They both landed exact same amount punches. Shane threw more. Cotto landing more jabs. and shane landing more of the power punches. I also thought shane bringing the pressure for the last 4 rounds of the fight is what also helped seal the fight for him along with the punchstat numbers. (usually who lands more of the power shots in a fight when the compubox total punches are so close, the fight would normally go to who landed more power shots.)
Cotto did show me he can box though, and is better than I thought.
Anyways eventhough I thought Shane won a very close decision.. I still wouldnt of been satasfied if the judges were to give him the nod. He was not at all the Shane Mosley I was expecting and remember. It just wasnt there. I wouldnt want the shane that fought tonight to step int he ring with mayweather.. He is just not what he once was.. I am a big mosley fan but realized his time where he would of been dominant has passed...
I thought Shane was behind 6-5 going into the 12 but he didn't land any real punches in 12 and even though Cotto was on the move constantly i see Cotto landing the shots and Mosley just stalking and not landing anything but it could of gone either way but what makes me laugh is that these judges i thought almost got it spot on but in Casamayor fight the judges couldn't have been anymore wrong if they tried.
yea rounds 11 and 12 tough to score, but I thought they would go to the aggressor even if there was few punches thrown or landed... usually happens in any fight where someone thinks they have a comfortable lead.
What alot of you are failing to realize is that Cotto is very good at slipping punches. He made Mosley miss most of his power shots. Mosley was throwing some bombs, but Cotto deflected or slipped most of them.
You have to admire the accuracy in which cotto was able to achieve on Mosley, I dont think anyone had found Mosley as many times as Cotto did.
that's very true!!

Cotto was the better fighter last night. I dissagree with him back paddling in the 12th rd, but hey you do what you must. I think Cotto faded a bit in the later rounds thus the reason why mosley made a slight comeback, but all in all both fighters took great shots.
Come on Guys, Cotto was setting up Mosely and that is why he allowed Mosely to be the aggressor in the fight. Cotto became a boxer and was counter punching beautifully. Mosely even stated himself after the fight that "Miguel Cotto is known for his aggressiveness but the Kid can box too" I was more impressed with the statements Mosely stated after the fight. A true champion and he knew he was a beaten man that's why he did not argue with the decision. Cotto layed off the 12th round because he knew he won the fight (which I disagreed with because I thought that made the fight closer.)
This is true. Cotto was never "seriously hurt". Both guys were stung a few times. But, Mosely became tentative when Cotto was backing up in the later rounds because he respected Cotto's power. In fact, it looked to me at the end of the fight that Mosely's jaw may have been broken.
Due to the fact that boxing is now 12 rounds, not 15, it is a round-by-round sport more so than a "battle" sport. Simple as that. Cotto won more rounds, but I do agree that Mosley had him LOOKING LIKE he was within 3 rounds of getting knocked out/turning the round-by-round total in Mosley's favor.
Mosley's last-fourth of the fight did, however, warrant him to get a re-match. That bein' said, ummm, Mosley will be older and Cotto will probably be better..
In the re-match I think it's fairly obvious that Cotto would win by 8-10 rd. Kayo.. I don't think Mosley should take the fight. I think he should go after Hatton, PBF, ODLH. All of whom are less dangerous than Cotto and after seeing Sugar last night, I think he'd beat 'em all, honestly.
Cotto is real, real good 'tho. Mosley was on the top of his game and Cotto probably took 8 of 12 rounds on over 50% (a majority) of people's score cards. I actually think he should've done the southpaw swap earlier in the fight, before he got stung real bad. I think that would of been the move that could've led to a knockout/easier win, but the way he switched it was like he was running out of ideas or something. (Which hurts the looks of his win even more, IMO)
Annnnnyways.. Cotto won. I'd like to see Cotto-Hatton, PBF-Sugar WAY more than I would want to see Cotto-PBF, Cotto-Sugar II..
It was a great fight but what baffles me more than anything Is from round 9 on Shane turned the tide and became the aggresser and everytime he had Cottos back on the ropes he stopped punching(watch the fight from the 8-9 round on you will see exactly what I mean). If Mosley would have rallied everytime he had Cotto on the ropes we may have had a different result. At any rate this was a great fight and I would certainly not be disappointed In seeing this one again.By the way I hate to say this(because I cant stand Floyd)but Mayweather would pick Cotto apart.
yea he would start. but he wouldnt finish. It was very apparent the shane we all remember has been gone longer then alot of us fans wanted to believe..

Hmmm Interesting take on things mate... I mean it wasn't a Blow out or anything.. But Cotto was clearly landing the better and more meaninful punches.. At times Mosley looked like he would rather be somewhere else..
I agree he Mosley isn't what he once was.. BUT then he hasn't been for a good 5 or so years now... Which Is why I gladly bet you on this fight..:lol1:
Can I have my 10k now please??? :fing02:
i agree mate I think Mosley sort of knew he was'nt the same fighter & that is maybe why he delayed the fight with PBF when he had the chance to face him

man...this fight reminded me the corrales-casamayor fight....even though it was close and shane was looking good at moments like chico, but he could never pull the trigger at the right moment...props to cotto though he's always been one of my fave fghters...i just like shane a lot more....i hope shane retires for good, i didnt like what i saw today...especially reminding me of chico :(
It gave me the chills to read that. Major props. :notworthy

EDIT:
i had the fight a draw BTW...mexican media had Mosley winning by a point evn though they were rooting for Cotto at the beggining, because of their relationship with TopRank....but they kept it real i enjoyed the mexican tranmission of the fight....surprising...

Most definately, that has to be said. For the life of me I couldn't understand why Shane wasn't doing anything in the initial round. That was telling.
There was something off and I could see it when he was still in the dressing room. All that light and energy he had this last week was completely gone. Dare I say; I KNEW things weren't going to go well before the fight started.
Either way Cotto was going to give him a very tough and determined challenge and although this fight was clearly winnable for Mosley (if he had done more to be honest), that little bit of shortcoming was enough. Cotto was FAST, accurate, and intelligent. Very impressive.
ah
you got rid of your list of fav fighters?why?cotto would have beaten to of ya faves, right?
its all good antonim.. not here to trash talk.. I gave an honest opinion on the fight. your guy got the nod.. congrats for you. im not here bitching about the loss like many others are.. I wasnt happy with shanes performance even if he judges did give it to him.
