and do you feel sorry for any of them? it's crazy how the hype machine can influence you and have you thinking someone is on the come up. and then time goes by, and you wonder what happened to them.
Fernando Vargas, in a way... he never really got a signature win.
He beat Winky Wright, back when Wright was a straight slickster, and clearly not as good as he is now, and a lot of people think that decision went the wrong way.
Quartey and Marquez are good wins.
Meldrick Taylor was a joy to watch, he could have been one of the all-time greatest. Saw him fighting here in Denmark some years ago, that was a very sad sight. He could hardly speak and his lightning fast hands were long gone.
Lots of names already mentioned but Tua, Grant, and Judah are the ones I really agree with.
It’s hard to blame a boxer for falling short of expectations because they don’t control what other people’s beliefs are of them. As a boxer it isn’t what you could be, or what you didn’t get to be, you simply just are. So if these boxers fell short of our expectations that is our problem, not theirs.
Ike Ibaeabuchi. he was just about to get good money and make it big until he raped a woman and was sent off to prison. i dont feel sorry for him its just that he could have been a dominant heavyweight champ.
yes! thats very sad he was 20 and 0 handed chris bird n david tua there first losses paul spadafora had a very similar case
Wright wasnt a slickster for that fight. Everyone was in awe of how he completely changed his style, wright had that fight won but blew it in the later part of the fight thinking he had a huge lead
Well he certainly didn't play the role of his slickster self in that fight... I merely said that he was a slickster because that was back before he developed his defensive matrix come forward style, so it's a good win for Vargas, but not great.
Just like the Jones Jr. win over Hopkins. Hopkins was still a boxer-puncher of sorts, instead of his ring control style that he developed after he became middleweight champion.

I would say Daniel Santos, had a good win recently and has some goods wins on his resume but he ain't boosted to what I thought he would be.
Calvin Brock, he basically went from ShoBox to SHO and back to ShoBox after getting crushed.
Hector Camacho Jr, kid has a few good wins under his belt, it hurts to say that about him because I'm coo with his uncle but whats true is true, he knows he needs to come back strong, question is will he do it.
last but not least Luis Collazo, he got all the shot, he basically beats Ricky then hurts his hands for Shane, just pure bad luck following him O and Hercules Kyvelos, undefeated Puerto Rican kid who had it all going for him until he faced Margarito, it was one of the wins that established Tony as that big threat he was known for being.. I got many many more, I'll post a few more later.. 100
Judah to me because allthough i am a fan apart from Spinks he never wins the big fights and he just didnt fullfill his early potential.
Lacy got exposed but could still shine as he has been given a golden opportunity (excuse the pun)
Micheal Grant
Vargas has had a similar career to Judah
and many others but there the main ones

David Tua....he was being hyped up by HBO as the next Tyson way back in the day
Tua had his chance against Lewis but spent it wondering whether to throw a punch or not. What a waste.
In regards to Zab, he has failed the test of greatness but at least he was a world champ. But I thought he would have had a much bigger career.
I think Zab Judah is a definate candidate for this. The guy has so much potential but just falls short of ever being great.
Fernando Vargas is another person that comes to mind. I always just wonder what could have happened had he never been injured. A rematch with either Trinidad & De La Hoya? A move up to 160 to fight Hopkins at some point? There are so many fantasy matches that would have been classics, I think.
I think Ike Quartey could fit in this category, many may disagree with me though.
David Reid had a lot of hype surrounding him for a little bit, I think. I was impressed with him when he fought Trinidad, although he lost. But I always did wonder what happened to him.
William Joppy was someone else who I always thought was really good but just never quite got to where I thought he could be.
Oh, and also Cory Spinks.
zab judah seems to be able to contend, but you are right, he keeps falling short, and he even lost to someone he should not have lost to. well, at the very least, at least all those guys had a chance at greatness, something that most of boxers will never come close to. some people are going to say mike tyson, and yeah he had a short prime, but next to ali, he was the most popular boxer in the sport i think. and he made a lot of money, although he's in debt now. oh well.
David Tua....he was being hyped up by HBO as the next Tyson way back in the day
Tua's fought 3 times this year and is only 34, might still have some left in the tank.
In answer to the thread Mathew Hilton in fight of the year back in 1987 in beating Buster Drayton amd winning the IBF junior middleweight belt then defended his belt with a couple early ko's, then just fades away.
