Manny shelving plans to move to lightweight

By Abac Cordero The Philippine Star Wednesday, October 24, 2007 Unless he is given an offer that’s hard to resist, Manny Pacquiao will most likely remain as a super-featherweight, and hold back his plans of moving up to the lightweight division. Pacquiao’s legal adviser, Franklin Gacal, yesterday told The STAR of the boxer’s latest stand regarding questions on whether or not he’s ready to move up from 130 to 135 lbs. “That’s what he told me the last time we talked. That was two days ago. Manny said he will stay at 130,” said Gacal who’s in Gen. Santos City where Pacquiao is at the moment. Gacal said he is just waiting for orders from Pacquiao for him to get in touch with Top Rank big boss Bob Arum and begin talks regarding the Filipino’s next fight. Arum said two weeks ago that Pacquiao should be back on the ring by March, and probably stage three fights next year –regardless of the weight division. “Manny is taking it easy. Then he will start listening to Bob Arum on what’s there is to offer. Manny said he will stay at 130 but there’s nothing final,” said Team Pacquiao’s Jake Joson. “Everything depends on the negotiations. If Manny feels that he will get only as much at 135, then he might stay at 130. It will all depend on the negotiations,” he added. Eight fighters are lining up before Pacquiao. They are Juan Manuel Marquez, Edwin Valero, Humberto Soto, Joan Guzman and Rocky Juarez at 130; and Juan Diaz, David Diaz and Joel Casamayor at 135. Pacquiao is busy with his studies at Notre Dame in Gen. Santos City, hardly answering calls on his two mobile phones. He said he will make his career move by December. Pacquiao beat Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas last Oct. 6, and bared his plans of moving up in weight after having some difficulty making 130 lbs. But before flying back to Manila days after the Barrera fight, Pacquiao said he might just stay at 130 lbs and take the challenge hurled by Edwin Valero who said he can beat the Filipino. “I really felt challenged by Barrera’s statement that Valero is the only one who can beat me right now. I have decided to stay at 130,” Pacquiao said before flying out of LA.

The best thing for Pacquaio is to stay at 130. he has more fights, and they're safer. He could make 135, and well.. but he'd lose to Casamayor and Diaz, in my opinion.

I doubt if he is even outside your Top 20. Can we say :owned: ? Get a life you hater. Yeah, but the thing is: Pac KO11 MAB-Great win Pac UD JMM (if not for judge's error)(You fail to mention that he was outboxed the whole fight making the judges who had Pac up a controversy in it's own) Morales UD Pac-(And a Past his Prime Morales at that) Pac KO11 Morales(See Above) Pac KO3 Morales Pac UD MAB(Couldn't even K.O this old guy) MAB and Morales have shown to OWN fighters at 135. Peden (who came from 135) and David Diaz were the creme of the crop in that division. So take all of this plus the fact that Suico couldnt make a suitable sparring partner for Pac, what do you get? Honestly I have to agree with xcaret in saying you are one stupid moron.First off Peden only fought at 135 like 3 times against bums with a combined record of like30W 36L.And after he lost to barrera he got k.oed by a guy with a record of 20 W and 10L.So tell me how the hell is he the creme of the crop at 135?and Davi Diaz is by far the weakest champion of 135 and Morales didn't own him.Diaz won fair and square.And all this bullshit doesn't have to do nothing with Juan.Juan is not barrera,Morales or any of these fighters you have mentioned.He is a different fighter,different style, therefore you cannot use these fighters as a measuring stick.

Well you see,that doesn't work that way.Amatuers and pro is way different.Examples:Taylor k.o ed Pavlick in the amatuers,and what happened in the pro's?Another one:Martin Castillo the former 115 champ beat Mayweather in the amatuers,do you think he can beat him in the pro's?Another one:Cotto was beat by Pinto and Abdulev in the amatuers what happened in the pro's he k.oed them.So don't use that bullshit as a measuring stick cuz it doesn't work that way.

Listen blame pacquiao for calling out Juan after the what? Suicco fight? Now blame Pacquiao again for backing down and staying at jr. lightweight when Juan has been calling pacquiao out for while now. You can prolly ask Diaz to move up to 147 now to fight Cotto. If he doesn't move up, I guess that makes him the same chicken as Pacquiao.

You just have to admit you're asking Pac to move up too soon just so you can get his ass kicked. Before Diaz came to the scene, haters were preaching how Valero would ko Pac. Now when Pac decides to stay at 130 to fight Valero, he suddenly becomes a chicken. Was it a chicken move for Juan Diaz to move down to 135 after starting out at 140 because his punches had no effect at that weight? I guess some would say it was a wise decision. But, when Pac crys wolf, "I want to move up and challege Juan Diaz" Then when Juan looks like a killing machine. We here Pac say, "I will stay at jr. lightweight." If Juan was like Pac, Juan would be killing himself to move to featherweight. But Juan has skills and balls that he is fighting at his weight where he doesn't have to drain himself as other fighter do, as does pac. pac's natural weight class would be 126 or even 122 have we for gotten that he was a minimumweight at one time?
