montiel should fight gorres
He already did. Went to the Phillipines and got a decision victory. Whether it was controversial or not, Montiel is one of the few that was willing to go there and fight one of their top prospects. A rematch would be good though, in Mexico or the USA.
By the way, if it were to happen, Montiel beats Gorres...again. ;)
I've only seen a little bit of mijares fight on youtube, doesn't impress me much, but he is a good boxer, but i don't think he matchs montiel.
Mikares is very slick, active and he has good enough power to hurt Montiel. I wouldn't call it a washout but I would definitely pick Mijares, did you see him against arce and Kawashima, he looked terrific.
no i mean the one before that one, and after z gorres.....it was in montiel's hometown and he looked awful.....the upside is he has a punchers chance against just about anyone at the division, but his defense is null....mijares will slap him all over the place....
i just hope televisa and the wbc dont fuck mijares up in their attempt to make him a big star...theyve fed him 2 nobodies for his last 2 fights just to make him score KO's and get more attention from the fans here in mexico...
Oh yeah, I know which one you're talking about now! You're right, that WAS a horrible performance by Montiel. I'm still a fan though, every fighter deserves the benefit of the doubt when they have a bad night. Like you said, he always has that punchers chance and that's another thing that usually makes his fights exciting.
About Mijares, you're right in you're concern about him being fed low-level competition. The Japanese fighter he fought a few months ago gave him a good (although one-sided) fight, but this past weekend's fight was a joke! I never took it seriously as soon as I saw the French guy's record!
As far as I'm concerned that just means Montiel is willing to fight and give fans some exciting fights! :D Are you talking about his last fight? The one that was on the VERSUS channel not too long ago? If so, I did see it and it was a FOTY candidate! Great back-and-forth action! :boxing:
Still, I see what you're saying though. Mijares should be able to outbox Montiel if he wants to, however, it'll get interesting if he decides to open up and trade with him.

Montiel ALWAYS opens up his hands, even when out-boxing....and Montiel is already showing signs of even worse defense....did you see his fight versus Cecilo santos????if that guy had a chin, he wouldve beat Montiel..

Montiel boxes very well when he gets to it, but he is easily pulled into a brawl. The smart money is definitely on Mijares though, but I might (not sure yet) pull for Montiel.
Does anybody know the ages of these two fighters? I know Mijares is pretty young, but I don't remember Montiel's age.

Cool! This should be a good one! :boxing:
I'm a pretty big fan of Montiel, but have become a fan of Mijares' boxing skills after watching his last few fights. I don't know who to pick!!!
