!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF you bought all of those, your wallet took a MAJOR hit. I bought DLH-Mayweather, went to Cotto-Judah, bought Wright-Hopkins, and plan on buying Cotto-Mosly and Hatton-Mayweather.
I think its rediculous how manny PPV shows they put on.
Tell me this, why cant HBO take these big fights that they dont have enough budget for (thats why they put some fights on PPV that shouldnt be PPV) and SELL them to maybe ESPN or ABC or FOX or something???
They'd take a little hit to the profit, but it would still be profit AND it wouold be doing the sport a huge favor.
Sometimes i get the feeling HBO isnt with Boxings best interests
Yeah, Cotto only fights in PPV's now.
which also rediculous by HBO
Cotto-Judah was the PERFECT fight to make free. its sure to be the start of a GREAT career and it was an AWSOME performance.
Instead of the great views it would have gotten if it were free, only 200,000 buys.
Cotto isnt that big a PPV draw, but keeping him on PPV only is NOT going to help
Who do you blame though? The "business men" that try to make a buck? Or the fans for paying to see some of these wack ass fights? I bet if the fans were to boycott the PPV's they would give us boxing for free. Really how many times can people pay to watch several fighters lose? Com'n DLHvs PBF broke all records, and it was a lame ass fight. Now Taylor vs Pavlik would've been a great fight to watch on PPV, but they chose to give it free.
no thats what im trying to say. if im making money hand over fist wether the fights are lame or not im going to keep on doing it. thtas why i said not everyone is going to boycot boxing its just not going to happen. bc personally i want to see jones fight and i cant watch it if im boycotting it. i mean yes they would change things if a boycot was on but there wont be and never will be. and on taylor pavlik being on ppv i agree. but taylor is not a big name fighter lets face it. he is overrated. i mean i think he's got the tools but he just hasnt fought any good fights since bhops and again very very very close fights both that could have gone the other way.

in some ways HBO is boxing when you look at it. i mean showtime cant put a fight on like PBF and DLH or PDF and hatton or jones jr trinidad. i mean come on honestly HBO is boxing. i mean come on. if you have your own biz are you going to sell some high paying stuff to other companys? NO. i mean i agree they should start putting the fights on the local stations i would love to watch big fights like that without paying 50 bucks for it. but think about this. we complain alot but we PAY ALOT. thats that. we love boxing so even though we dont agree with all the PPV's or that they actually should make some big fights on non cable tv. its not going to happen.
are you going to boycot boxing?
didnt think so. so as long as there is a ppv and a hbo and all that we are going to pay 50 bucks to see the biggest fights.
true????
yes and i agree with this, but selling big fights to other networks, and asking for a percentage of their profit, could make MORE then from PPV revenue after they pay everyone they need to pay.
And even if it doesnt, they are getting their starts out there to the casual and mainstream sports fans. Its good business, they just need to a make an awsome deal with ABC or something, that benefits both parties.
Maybe ABC gets a fight like PAVLIK-CALZAGHE but by giving ABC that fight, ABC has to advertise the next 2 or 3 fights for the winner, even though HBO gets to air them?
Something like that would be GREAT for boxing, and would be highly beneficial for HBO

I duno about the whole "not for boxing's best interest" thing, otherwise why is this the best line-up of fights in god knows how long? I'm not too caught up with my wallet taking a major hit, since this has been a marquee year for boxing.
DLH-Mayweather was the highest grossing PPV in boxing HISTORY
Cotto-Judah was one hell of a fight with a GREAT undercard that showcased Michael Katsidis' skill.
Hopkins-Wright was a technical fight that at times was extremely exciting and showcased both fighters' worth as a P4P contender.
Diaz-Morales was a fitting farewell to a great Mexican warrior who put on a hell of a show when many thought he barely had anything left.
Pacquiao-Barrera II was good in the sense that it showed how vulnerable Manny can be when he doesn't dedicate himself to training, and also let us say goodbye to one of the all-time great super featherweights.
Cotto-Mosley has the potential to be the next verson of Chavez-Taylor, perhaps even better, and with a less controversial decision.
Hatton-Mayweather will be the biggest fight since DLH-Mayweather, and will either affirm Mayweather's star power and stature or will erase all criticism from Ricky Hatton's detractors.
Trinidad-Jones will be a classic battle between two of the BIGGEST names of our generation who both have something to prove and hope to use the other as a vice to do that.
Not to mention Taylor-Pavlik, Calzaghe-Kessler, Diaz-Diaz and Guzman-Soto all being on FREE HBO tv, plus, I was always under the impression that HBO did a PPV once a month anyways, so being that it's all quality fights I don't see a problem with it.
well the best fights bring in the most money, so they are gonna try their best to put on the best fights and maximize their audience by making countdown episodes and such.
But theres just SOO much they could be doing for Boxings sake. Boxing could really be a big sport, or at least a much bigger sport then it is now, in a few years.
I REALLY want to do something in boxing, hopefully i can get a job with HBO and share my ideas cause i really think i could help
See, the problem with Ross Greenburg or whatever his name is, is he got the job BEFORE he was a boxing fan. he BECAME a fan as the years went by.
I think a HUGE BOXING fan, could do a better job
Nobody in Business actualy cares about THEIR customers.. Only how much money they have and how they can get them to part with it...
I am not disagreeing with you.. I am just saying..
True. Unfortunately it's all about the change. They tell us customers they want to put on the best fights for the fans, but what it's really all about is about making as much money as they can.
