It was the fight Ricky Hatton had been waiting years for, and last night,
infront of a packed crowd of Casino goers and boxing fans, Hatton and
P4P King, Floyd Mayweather Jr settled their differences.
It started well for Hatton, Mayweather looked confused by Hatton's jab, and a strong body shot(Hatton's best of the night) seemed to stun the P4P King for a moment. But a smile silenced any doubters.
By round 5, Mayweather had taken control of the fight, jabbing and crossing his way to a points decision, displaying his masterful footwork and stamina.
When the result was announced, (A wide UD decision for Mayweather) there were loud cries of dissaproval. But this fight will not be debated in the same manner as Mayweather's previous bout, against Oscar de la Hoya.
'He was fast - Faster than I thought.' Hatton said post-fight. 'He's a great champion, and I really thought I could do it. I piled on the pressure hard, but maybe I took my foot of the gas in the later rounds. But hats off to him, he was the better man tonight and I hope maybe in the future he'll give me another chance.'
Ricky Hatton, suffers his first Loss on his career record.
Now, what's next for the Hitman?
'I'm going to go back to England and talk with my team and Billy Graham, and we're going to be back next summer maybe. Right now, I just want to enjoy Christmas with my kid, and see where I go from here.'

Got this with my time-machine. Anybody want any other newspapers from the future, let me know.
I think that Hatton's corner can pull Ricky when his eye closes. Floyd is a two-handed fighter. Whatever eye closes is gonna get the business. Either the doctor or the corner.
If Hatton gets buzzed a la manfredy, he will get that Floyd/Oscar treatment. PBF and Oscar usually get their KO's when they get the guy in the corner/ropes and rain a bunch of punches unanswered. The ref will step in. I can see that type of stoppage. (I'd be surprised to see Smoger ref this fight).
But I think that Ricky has wanted this fight his whole life, and he won't stay down.
People criticize PBF's power because of Baldomir and Delahoya. But we have seen those guys in with judah, hopkins, shane, gatti, sturm, vargas, quartey, trinidad, forrest, etc. In over 100 rounds with real punchers, have you ever seen Oscar or Baldomir on queer street?
Yeah I see what you mean. If it did play out how you forsee, I wonder what that would say about a Hatton - De la Hoya fight, because I figured Oscar would still fight Hatton if he lost a decision to Floyd - but I wonder if Oscar would forget about Hatton if he lost by a stoppage.
You guys should start a new career.
All you need is a crystal Ball & some tarot cards.
The only trouble is you will be out of business within 24 hours when your horseshit doesn't come true.
Thanks for the comedy though guys....seriously this thread is funny shit.
Only nuthuggers could dream of writing an article on a fight before its even happened.
I'm not a nuthugger. I like Hatton and I've been watchin him for a few years now, but I'm a REALIST. Mayweather's skills are out of this world, and when it comes down to December 8th - all Hatton can hope for is a God sent miracle, or that split second of a moment that can change a fight.
Also, I have a tendency to root for the underdog.
Jam,
You have a great thread, and I will quickly offer my detailed fight prediction:
Round 1: Floyd comes out and stands in the middle of the ring. Fairly flat-footed. He is trying to gauge Hatton's strength and speed, and is tuning up his defense. Ricky is catious and throws less than usual. He has a good measure of respect for PBF's speed and counter-punching. He won't get reckless. Ricky was busier. Round 1 Hatton.
Rd 2: Ricky picks up the pace, and so does Floyd. Mayweather still isn't in form, and they fight a fairly busy but close round. Hatton eats some uppercuts and counter-rights. But RH is determined because he knows that he has to establish his fight. They may end up near/on the ropes. It is becoming clear now to Rick that he is not the stronger man in the ring. Close round. Either way. Probably Hatton on activity.
Rds 3/4: Mayweather is busier than in the first coupla rounds. He is landing consistently hard shots now, and blocking Hatton's increasingly wide shots. On some occasions, RH comes inside, clinches and tries to maul. PBF is retaliating by pushing off with the elbow/forearm, and the ref warns him. The first signs of wear appear on Rick's face. Rds 3/4 are Mayweather.
Rds 5/6/7: It is starting to get a bit ugly, and the outcome of the fight is clear now. Hatton, unable to muscle Floyd, and with a considerable skill/speed disadvantage, is getting hit too much. Ricky, being a gamer, rallies. But his face is starting to open badly, and he hasn't solved the puzzle of how to get to Floyd consistently. Perhaps RH takes one of these rounds, but this middle part of the fight is where FMJ really pulls away.
Rds 8/9: Very ugly. Very. At times, it looks "sixth-round-of-the-Gatti-fight-esque". Ricky, uncharacteristically, is fatiguing and his face is a mess. The ref and/or ring doctor has already taken a good look. Floyd puts his foot on the gas. He stays on the perimeter but is launching hard, straight stuff.
Hatton's corner, in a smart decision to preserve their fighter's health and psyche, elects not to send him out for round 10.
Mayweather TKO 9 Hatton.
That's fantastic stuff. I could definitly visualise this happening too, the way that you described it. There's one thing though, I wonder if Hatton's team would have the capacity or will to pull Hatton out of the fight.
Do you think Mayweather can only win by a TKO or a decision. Or do you think he has potential for a KD, or KO?
And Urango.
Jammer, I thought it was well-done and you have been K'd up.
Altho, I have stoppage bets outstanding, and I would end up owing a pricey steak dinner if hatton sees the final bell. Fucker.
Nice one. Appreciated!

:argue: WHAT ABOUT THE STOPPAGE?
I piled on the pressure hard, but maybe I took my foot of the gas in the later rounds
it was all good until then, but talking about taking his foot off the gas in the later rounds, ricky gets stronger as the fight goes on and piles more pressure on. good read though lol most will probs be correct what you wrote unfortunately
lol, what about the Collazo fight? Didn't he shut down towards the end?
Cheers man

Mayweather may not say it, but at the end of the fight he will be thinking, "man this little white guy was faster than I thought. Not fast enough to dodge my counters though".
:werd: :werd:
Now this was well thoughtout, actually sounded like it was from a newspaper and was pretty well written. You could have made it about Hatton winning and still would have gotten the praise I just gave. Very nice job budd.
Thanks man! :D
