As mentioned by many he is relentless and is only going to get better. He amazes people that have seen some of the best through out the years. I think with this win and his highly skills, Juan deserves to be on the p4p list.
Weight drained? How do you figure that? I guess Taylor and Pavlik were both 'weight drained' also, right? Point is he made the weight. If Miranda was coming in 15-20 lbs over weight then he would be weight-drained. But he wasn't...so there goes your off base theory.
And he beat the man of the division, the lineal champ.
To say Miranda wasn't weight drained is asinine. He was willing to pay Pavlik's team money on the day of the weigh-in so they could fight at a higher weight because he was literally killing himself trying to make 160.
The reason i would put him in is because few fighters (Arce can also punch through out a whole fight) can throw so many punchs in the 12 round as in the 1st round. And Diaz win is a solid win. Im not into p4p list nor do i know where to rank him, but his is impressive and some like Diaz should be in p4p list. Few fighters throw so many punchs as he does and Diaz does this at the top level.
I didn't throwing a hell of a lot of punches warranted being on the p4p list. Make more of a case about this budd.
Agreed for the most part. Give Mckart a little bit more credit though. He's been a fav of mine for years. ;)
But whatever...we have different viewpoints.
Your view on kess - zag?
I don't care about either fighter. Joe has fought a sheltered career and his fans (as is the case w/ most boxers) drive me insane. I like Kessler's style. I have little personal interest or stock in who wins... but I would like to see Joe Blow lose so I can laugh at his fans on these boards.
I'd put money on Kessler if I had to. It will be up to Joe to prove himself against an actual live opponent for the first time in quite a while.
It's a pick 'em fight though.
Quitalino Freitas was ripe for the picking against a guy like Juan and Julio Diaz was fairly inactive since 2005. In no way shape or form do these two wins constitute being on the lb. for lb list....let's not get carried away here. I wouldn't even talk about comparing these wins to Pavlik's either. Miranda and the undisputed champ, JT are two of the biggest back to back wins in boxing that there have been in a while as far as I'm concerned.
Maybe a little bit...but if his last name was something else you think he really would get the credit he gets now???
He doesn't really get talked about him. I haven't seen more than a couple of comments here and there since his lost to Juan.
I dont know man. We are coming from different backgrounds here but how has Juan looked better lately?
Pavlik knocked out Mckart, Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor. That is pretty good in the space of 2 years... in my opinion.
Looking better in the ring. McKart and Zertuche are slightly gorified journeymen, but competent nonetheless. Like I said, I wont pretend to say Diaz has a better record, but I'm also not going to suggest Pavlik has anything better than a decent record for himself at the moment.
I look at who has a better chance of continuing to climb the ranks, win more belts, make defenses, etc etc based upon their skills and what I've seen them do... I see Pavlik losing to JT if he actually gets some ring sense finally.... I don't see any major threats at this moment to Diaz other than himself.
Only noteable guys I have seen him fight:
Cotto's younger bro (who isn't very good by the way...he's in the same mold as bobby pac)
Frietas (tough fighter...)
Julio Diaz.
He's stepped it up a little past prospect level the past year and a half. Which is what Pavlik has done also. Big deal. Except Pavlik beat the undisputed MW champ.
Comparing Cotto to Bobby Pac is an insult. I'm not gonna' sit here and spew bull shit about him fighting a bunch of great current and ex-champs, but he has built a good resume thus far. Diaz looked more impressive in the ring tonight and in recent events than Pavlik has, bottom line in my book. I wont pretend like Pavlik doesn't have the bigger notch in his belt.
I agree with you about ability..but you have to factor in the competition. I can look like Ali fighting against my 13 year old cousin. Does that mean I deserve to be high in the rankings.
And I feel like you are not giving Pavlik very much credit. He is not an all-timer at least not at this point but he would be tough in any era. 6'2'' and the wingspan of an airplane. He's no Tommy Hearns...but the man is rangy and can really punch.
How you look against the better opponents means a lot, for sure. But Diaz has been looking good for several years, this wasn't just some sort of 1 fight deal.
lmao @ calderon being around 11-13.
Why because he's a really low weight and "runs" around. He's a good outboxer who's fast.
Though thinking about it more I forgot people like Mosley and Kessler so yeah, he'd probably be in the lower 15-20, but he's still a pretty good fighter.
All you're doing is further proving my point. You said it yourself...he beat one of the top two guys at middleweight.
Did Juan Diaz beat a top two fighter at LW?
Julio Diaz was easily in the top 3 or 2 fighters at lightweight.

Refer to my previous post. In my opinion P4P is more about a fighter's ability in the ring than the belts they hold or some fighters they may have/have not beaten.
The Pavlik I saw was a man with a decent chin, a strong punch, and hands as slow as old people fucking. He should be thankful his rise to fame was after BHop had left the division; because the Executioner would've had a fucking field day.
Man you are running in circles.
If Pavlik beat Abraham would he of been higher in your rankings? Give the guy some credit. Pavlik beat the undisputed champ. Get over it.
If Pavlik fights and beats Abraham he'll sure as shit get higher. He beat one of the top two guys at middleweight... the problem is Taylor simply wasn't that great. Had he not gotten knocked down and actually won a UD I might've been more impressed. I'm not running circles. I'm making justifications while all you do is question me.
Dude he beat the man at middleweight. He beat the undisputed king of the division for 10 years. Future HOFer Bernard Hopkins.
Baldomir beat a chump in Judah who won vacant belts and had belts given to him.
Heh, that is why it's up for debate. Jermain Taylor never convincingly beat anybody of note. Cory Spinks? Ouma? Fucking Joppy?
Miranda did look weight drained. His punches lacked any pop them and i was one of these people that though Miranda would lose soon. He lost even sooner, in his next fight.
Well there's only 10 spots in the top ten p4p, and Pavlik should be there regardless of what Juan did tonight. However, I don't know why they couldn't make some room for Juan. Bernard Hopkins...for example..could be moved out IMO.
As mentioned by many he is relentless and is only going to get better. He amazes people that have seen some of the best through out the years. I think with this win and his highly skills, Juan deserves to be on the p4p list.
p4p my ass! juan=no power
Katisidis will kick his ass!
Look man, Miranda wasn't fighting Eastman. He was fighting a 6'2'' monster. For the first time in his career he had to look up to someone. And he fought a guy who brought it.
And either way...
Pavlik beat the man at MW. Juan didn't do so.
Beating a lineal champion isn't an automatic reason to put people on a p4p list. Baldomir was a lineal champion. I'm not calling Pavlik a bum, but I'd probably not put him on my list before Diaz.
