I hear all these threads talking about how great the fight was and so on but it wasnt that great to me. It was a good solid fight but there was nothing real special about it.
I thought round 1 was awesome and had alot of volume and action to it. After that the fight wasnt that great except for the 2 knock downs. The ending was also a little anti climatic as it kind of seem to come from nowhwere but it wasnt flashy either.
For the most part, the fight actually was just solid to boring like alot of Pavlik's fights are. Its crazy because he's a all action fighter but he's not really exciting at all. I think its the way he's kind of like a slower heavy hand guy. Both this fight & Miranda's fight was great early but then the fight settles into a groove where both guys are throwing but its not exciting. In both fights it also seems like all the fighters tire by like round 3 and then they keep fighting but its not at a high pace or with a ton of skill.
Pavlik even says that he throws alot of punches even when he gets tired. Thats him. He's tired by like round 3 but he still throws punches. Still, you can see the tiredness and the fight is nowhwere near as good from that point on. The Winky-Taylor fight was much more exciting. I still havent seen the Berto fight except for pieces of it but even that fight seemed better from the short stuff I watched. You could say that the Taylor fight was closer which makes it better but it still doesnt make it exciting. After round 2, the fight settled into a long lull of just solid boxing with no steam to it
i thought it was a good fight but there have been better middle weight fights since hagler hearns, benn eubank I, watson eubank II, benn mcclellan just to name a few.
Benn-McClellan was at 168, for what it's worth (though I agree, it was a better fight than Pavlik-Taylor).
McClellan-Jackson I is a terrific slugfest that always gets lost in the shuffle as well. I wouldn't argue with anyone who said it was Pavlik-Taylor. Castro-JD Jackson I as well, if only for its unreal ending.
This fight on its own was a good fight with a great ending. The significance of the bout raised the stakes, which is what makes it a FOTY candidate (though I still have Vazquez-Marquez II as the front runner).
I disagree with the earlier claim (perhaps it was the thread starter?) that Wright-Taylor was a better fight. In fact, that, while a very good fight, was immediately overrated, with many calling THAT fight the best middleweight clash since Hagler-Hearns.
I'd rather watch someone like Pavlik who gets in the ring with the intent of TAKING HIS OPPONENT OUT, as oppose to someone like Floyd, or Spinks, who go in with a safety first approach, and fight thier way to a pot-shotting points victory. Thats for damn sure!
The fight was awsome. the first 3 rounds were amazing, and it was awsome comeback.
Sure it was a little slow in rounds 4-6, but it had some brutal exchanges and the atmosphere was crazy, and the knockout looked like one from the olden days from Joe Louis and Ray Robinson
Don't argue. You'd really be stupid to argue Fake Floyd running like a chicken from a vastly outclassed Baldomir.
Even if you're Einstein. :D
i dont think he said that?
The outcome was thrilling but the overall content isn't worthy of Bob Arum calling this the second greatest middleweight championship fight since Hagler/Hearns.

That's your judgement bro, but this this fight had me shouting when Kelly KOed Taylor so I find it more exciting than any other fights and it deserves a good rate.
this fight was exicting because the wy it turned-out to be and no-one was expecting to see taylor knocked-out cold....so i guess you are the only one,
this was a great fight
1st off clowns, I am not a Taylor fan at all. I thought he would win but didnt have a intrest either way. I like both guys but could care less if either of them won or loss a fight. I didnt say that it wasnt a good fight. It was a good fight. My point is that it wasnt no way near as exciting as people make it out to be. After the 1st two rounds it was really slow paced from there on with both guys pretty fatigued.
Now you can say like that one guy said who thought that the side stuff added to it and made it great but if your just talking about the fight itself then it wasnt all that which people make it out to be
I see your point DLT & I have to agree you. It was a good solid fight but not a great fight. Good action & drama in the first 2 rounds but things started to settle down afterwards with some decent exchanges.
With the standards these days, Kelly Pavlik/Jermaine Taylor was a GREAT FIGHT!!! Were you one of the people that thought Mayweather/DLH was a great fight, just curious?
Yes you are the only one, If u thought the fight wasnt everything a boxing fan would want with a Big profile fight, between two undefeated guys. U should watch another sport.
I will always prefer a Pavlik KO from a Fake Floyd running like a chicken from an overmatched Baldomir.
So if you're questioning overrated fights, question Fake Floyd. Not someone who went down in the 2nd, down on all cards and still rallied to a KO in the
7th.
I do hope you have wisdom to analyze that.
Your so stupid that Im not even going to argue Floyd's stature to you but what in the hell does your answer have to do with my question, fool? You act like I said that Floyd-Baldy was the most exciting fight ever. You think that all I watch is Floyd? I love boxing and was really hyped up for this fight as I thought it could be a classic. Im not even saying at all that it lived "down" to anything but my point is that it was just a good solid fight. There was nothing super special about it. There have been a ton of good fights this year that this fight doesnt compare to. Even the Cotto-Zab fight seemed better then this and I thought Zab was a punching bag most of the time. Fights just dont stay exciting when guys tire out quick. They were exhausted or anything but it was not a super high level or exciting fight after round 2. The paced slowed to a crawl after then

Taylor/Wright, was a draw. This fight had a definitive winner. I'm not saying that that is proof of a better fight, or even a good fight, but it's a good piece of evidence.
Also, in this fight, there was a sense of, it can end at any time. That's excitement.
