Tragedy: Fighter dies after bout
Lightweight Jackson Bussell passed away on Friday after battling Javier Garcia to a draw on Thursday night at the Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas, California. Bussell gave a good account of himself in the fight, but seemed to run out of gas late. After the bout he collapsed and was taken to Northridge Medical Center where he lost his fight for life the following afternoon. Bussell, who lived in Reno, Nevada, was just 28 years of age. The Fightnews.com staff sends its condolences to his family.
rip jackson, and my condolences to you family and love ones...
reading some of the post here, i suddenly feel i want to see 4oz gloves in boxing, it will be faster, more exciting with more kos and less beatings for the looser ...
Most likely every time a fighter is knocked down by a big punch they are at least mildly concussed. The main problem here is constant trauma to the head. When the poster in the prior post mentioned how deaths are more common in the lower weights its because they are getting hit with too many punches.
Believe it or not the 4 oz. gloves the fighters in the UFC use are more safe than the 8 oz. gloves because its less likely a guy is going to take too many blows to the head before getting knocked out.
George Foreman has always said, that a fighter that take a beating round after round is likely to risk his life/health over the fighter that gets ko'd.
Some one needs to talk to the Nevada State Commision and tell them to bring back the 8 ounce gloves in there state and in general the 6 ounce gloves.

I totally concur. That is one of the main reasons why there hasn't been any deaths in the UFC. My goodness man when do the deaths end, I don't know what needs to be done but something does need to happen, because we can't keep having these deaths. R.I.P. Bussel and god bless.
does it have anything to do with concussions?
like i dunno do concussions happen often in boxing?
because obviously concussions can be very serious .. and fatal
hell take a completly different sport . football. I was reading in the paper
and these 4 kids between the ages of 12 and 16 .. all suffered and died from concussions .. truly sad stuff.
but do concussions happen in boxing? just asking.
