I don't want to start a flaming thread, but I genuinely feel that Shane Mosley will be the first opponent of Cotto's to actually be his equal in terms of physical size. I'm very curious to finally see Cotto in there with a skilled fighter who he won't bully around the ring. In Mosley, he'll be fighting a man whose banged with naturally big men like Winky Wright and Fernando Vargas.
I know some people will point to opponents like Judah and claim that he was was not at a disadvantage in size, but Judah is a small man and would most likely perform much better at 140. Cotto is a stocky guy and outweighed guys like Malignaggi by upwards of 15lbs on fight night in the past and the results speak for themselves. Mosley has the bone density and muscle composition to stand up to Cotto's bruising body attack and I can't wait to see the results play out.
One thing is for sure, If Cotto wins, I will give him his props and he will yet again dispell another flaw about himself (glass chin flaw also) if he beats Mosley.
I'm not disputing that Quintana is a legit Welterweight. But he is a smallish one and I could see him making 140 in a clinch. Compare Quintana to guys like WWs like Margarito....he's just not a strong welterweight. In Mosley, Cotto will for the first time be fighting a guy who undoubtedly can match him strength wise and his proven his strength in the past.
everyone except paul williams is small compared to margarito.
carlos quintana is as big as collazo is so i don't understand why you think he's a smaller fighter

I remember after the weigh-in how many ppl here said that Zab was going to Knock Cotto the fuck out, since he look small compared to Zab...
this is true
I still disagree, Mike. Quintana has fought at Welter his whole career. He's somewhere between 5'9 and 5'10. He's not as big as Margarito and Cintron because they are freaks of nature, but he's still a pretty big Welterweight with solid power. There's no way he could make 140, or he would have fought there by now.
Yeah he's a big guy for that weight Quintana is. But I have no idea how Cintron can fight at 147 pounds. If you put him next to Clinton Woods you'd think he outweighed him by a couple of pounds of muscle.

Its not long ago people were calling Quintana the most skilled fighter on that December card. (out of Margarito, Clottey, Cotto) When he finally gets in the ring again he'll prove my point. Until then, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
I dunno man. I'm not a Cotto hater, I like his style. Maybe I'm just traumatized from seeing him beat up Paulie live at MSG who looked like a canary bird in a cage with a fat cat. Cotto looked HUGE compared to him and I just think he's been beating up on guys who aren't strong....it's like a pattern for Cotto. But now he's in there with a legit and strong guy so we'll see what he's all about. If he wins...PROPS, no doubt!
yeah your totaly right, but like against judah, cotto advantage was that his was stronger then judah, but judah had instead the speed and power advantage
this thread maks no sense at all, if cotto is that big it's good for him, all good fighter have an advantage, cotto's is that he is strong. it's like if i would be saying, mayweather doens't fight a fighter who is so fast and skilled like him or george foreman did not fight such a big puncher then him.

Quintana is a legit natural Welterweight. I dont want to hear it.
He thought he could bully Cotto because of that fact, and by the 4th round he was running for his life.

Nah, most people don't understand how big Cotto really is. True he's short, but he's really STOCKY and solidly built. Take a look at Cotto's legs, they're like tree trunks. Height doesn't matter at all when deciding whose the bigger man. Frame type and bone density are what matter. Quintana, Zab, Malignaggi...they're all ectomorphic body frames (naturally small guys). With Cotto's body composition he could easily be a Junior Middle because he's a short endomorph.

True. Thing that people don't understand is that Judah didn't change from that weigh-in till fight night. Maybe a little. Whereas Cotto packed on about 15lbs. and looked much bigger than Zab on fight night. Cotto is built like a truck man, but Mosley is solidly built too.
? This thread is gay. Cotto is 5'7 inches... he is NO heavyweight. He is at his natural weight class at 147lbs. He is too small for Middle. ***...

Carlos Quintana.
I don't consider Quintana to be a strong welterweight either. Look at his frame, he's tall and lanky and has practically no muscle definition. Now I know strength is not indicated by physique at all, but considering Quintana's physique, fighting style (boxer, not a brawler), and KO ledger, I didn't consider him a physical threat to Cotto at all and knew he wouldn't be able to hurt him. I mean just look at the fight itself, Cotto looked MUCH bigger than Quintana on fight night.
