He destroyed Larry Donald in only his 13th fight, his fight with Byrd will probably be similar. He's fought good opposition very early in his career by his 20th fight he should be in line for a title shot against Wlad.
He stands and trade punches so you might think that somebody like Peter would give him problems but he's a way better boxer fundmentarlly, faster hands, better combinations, better repetoire of punches, gritty guy. If he closes the distance on Wlad he wins.
I don't know what you're basing this off. I watched every single one of his fights (maybe one was missing from the download, I can't remember) when the hype started and I just don't see it. He doesn't have this elite level pop that you talk about. He just doesn't. His power is fine, but its not special, and he is beyond flawed defensively. He also fights kind of stiff, and the win against Donald was NOT particularly impressive. Larry didn't give him a chance to look good really. He was obviously there for the pay day and didn't even really consider winning. Again, this wasn't Sasha's fault, but thats how it was. Plus, it was Larry Donald. He sucks. You've got to remember that while yes he did beat a horribly decrepit Holyfield and stuck with freak Valuev, the dude has also fought to draws with Ray Austin and Obed Sullivan, lost a decision to Kiik Johnson, and was dominated by Vitali. The only two reasons a win against Donald turns heads at all is because it was Povetkins's thirteenth pro fight and because the division is sad.
ummm byrd is gonna win ud
r u serious
this kid is trash
who will ko peter?
i odnt htink theres a man alive that can
fuck me. Maybe your right he is trash that cant get passed the likes of Chris Byrd, for me to say he could KO sombody like PETER!, what was I thinking.
I'll agree that anyone who can take Wlad out of his 'comfort zone' has a chance, and I say that as one of Wlad's biggest fans on here. But just accept for now, McKay, that the rest of the world isn't sold oin Povetkin's ability to do that. he's solid, and he could make things interesting in the next several years. But as of now most people consider him to be around #10 in the current scheme.
If he beats Byrd AND Brock, then he's done something. But I give "The Boxing Banker" a shot at beating him.
kayjay when the chambers brock fight comes around I'm definetly messaging you about laying something down. another thing I wanna say bout Povetkin, man no boxer no matter what impact the song had on them, as a male boxer you should never come out to bonnie tyler's I Need A Hero. I don't care if it's the song your mother used to sing for you before you went to bed and now she's passed on or whatever reason, lesson today no boxer have I Need a Hero as intro song.

If you subscribe to the MYTH that Wlad has a fraigle chin.. Even then Povetkin is still a HYPE job.. who has fought NO one and looked just slightly above average in doing so..
maybe I am wrong.. But I have seen absolutely nothing in Povetkin to suggest he is the future..
In fact I will be quite surprised if he beats Byrd.. and the only way he will is IF Byrd looks his Age...
In other words Its Byrds fight to win or lose..
the guy still has time to change my mind.. But right now to me.. he is the Just the heavyweight version of John Duddy.. Alot of Hype.. for beating up some chumps..
If the hype machine was behind him more than 0% people would already be crying out for him to unify. Fact is, if you want to watch his fights your going to have to download a Russian broadcast after the fact or find a stream.
If he was an American medal winner with his potentional every single 1 of his fights up to now would have been televised and he'd be the next Tyson to the media.

It's not about favorite players mate..
Its about the probabilty of Koivu winning the scoring race..
Which is about the same as Povetkin beatin Wald Klitschko anytime soon..
About none..
Klitschko is always going to suspect against guys that can bang. Povetkin can definitely bang. He's got that explosive type punching power Corrie Sanders did, solid technically. I think he gets inside his jab and knocks him out. Anybody that can take Klitschko out of his comfort zone has a chance to beat him, Povetkin definitely can, outside him I dont know.
I dont know a whole lot about Chagaev,
Ibragamov or anybody else I can think of no.
Jose Sakic is actually my favorite player, not Koivu.

Ive heard he fights like a Heavyweight Ricky Hatton. true or not? I havent really seen enough of his fights to judge.
He fights more like a heavyweight Miguel Cotto. Is a better comparision.
:lol1: :lol1: :rofl::rofl:
Come on man.... Next you will try to tell me.. Saku Koivu will win the Art Ross..

Hey buddy why u getting so wound up by people putting him down? You're acting like he's the second coming to the heavy weight division, he's just one more average fighter made to look good in this shit heavy weight division.
In my opinion he'll still get ko'd by wlad, peter and chagaev would proberly box his head off. Hell david haye could proberly ko him with his straight right hand which is lethal. :boxing:
He is the future of the heavyweight division. The turban brigade is done for.
I’m not sold on Povetkin just yet; granted he’s excelled as an amateur and so far as a pro, has done pretty good. However, his win against Donald was far from “destroying him” as Mckay has frequently stated, and was a sub-par win at best. I think judging from his performance against Bryd, we’ll be able to make a better assessment of this young exciting hw.
It was as good as 10 round non KO win as they come. He beat him up, won every round. Took very little few punches himself. No idea where you get word like 'sub par.' You probably didn't even watch the fight.

Povetkin has one major flaw and that's defense. He lets way too many punches through. Donald hit him with many flush punches but Povetkin's chin is not bad and Donald power is not that great. I've seen many fights of Povetkin and he is very hittable. Unless he corrects those mistakes, he will eventually get knocked out. He is very prone to the left hand when he is coming inside. I see any decent boxer with decent power using that against him and knocking him out. Wlad, Chagaev, Peter, Brewster, and Virchis would give him the world of trouble. The night is still young for him though, I believe he can work on his defense and be a lot more dangerous for the division.
By the way, I think he might actually defeat Byrd but Brock will give him a very hard fight when they fight.
