i decided to watch ufc last night since so much was made of it being on free tv and all, i was extremely bored was this the result of a bad telecast or is it just not for me?
i have been to many world title fights lennock lewis, eubank, benn, calzaghe etc. but i went to my 1st ufc75 event in london and it was great far better than any world boxing events i have been to all 9 fights were good match ups and its difficult to predict winners.the way they run the whole thing is exciting i loved every minute and am now well and truly hooked.
Matt Hammil won every round against Bisping yet they gave the decision to the englishman Micheal Bisping. Probably due to him being a useful marketing tool for when they do a show in England like last night.
I only watched it because it was free on Setanta.
Yes that was PURE BS. Looks like UFC is gonna make the same mistakes boxing made.
I keep trying myself to like it. I have no choice as friends of mine are into it and watch it frequently. It is very hard to swallow. I wasnt impressed with any of the fights they showed and the more I see them on the ground taking breathers I just cringe.
To the OP, there were good and bad fights. If you hated the Houston Alexander fight, you will hate MMA. It was, IMO, the most exciting fight of the night.
You can't tool the rules. Putting an absolute limit on grappling time is like boxing saying you can only jab so many times because the fans want to see big punches, not jabs. MMA is what it is, if it bores you, don't watch it. Like it or not, it's a fast growing sport. Maybe the competition will make boxing clean up it's act.
I've seen the ref make the guys stand up if they're grappling on the ground too long.
i've watched ufc maney times in the past and and have always been disapointed, i'd rather watch boxing. i hate all that grappling and rollin around, i'd rather see someone boxing it out, every once in a while there will be a good stand up fight.but the majority of the time it's grappling
AGREED. Please make a section just for this retarded stuff. I don't like seeing the boxing section polluted with this crap, and I certainly don't want to see the MMA getting filled with these crappy topics after every UFC.
Please send all the salary topics to that section as well. Thanks Neils.
yeah im sorry i had to post this in here, i would never post anything about something that is not boxing again, this is the only forum i have ever read/posted in so i guess i just did it without thinking, this forum should be 24/7 boxing
We need an MMA/boxing bitch lounge so NSB and the MMA areas don't get polluted with threads like this after every UFC event...

No way did Bisping lose the last round. But he did lose the other two.
You really can not expect unskilled streetfighters to be exciting all the time. If these punks really were martial artists there would never be an exciting fight because nobody would ever get hit.
Just like I posted in the other thread:
You still TALKING that noise? I've been telling you for months if you feel MMA guys are such talentless bums to take your ass into an MMA school and drop a challenge. Please tape it and post it for my amusement too.
You may not like grappling, but it takes skill. You do realize Judo and Wrestling are Olympic sports, right?

I disagree, I look at it the same way boxing handles clinching. If two guys are locked up and nothing is happening.. break it up. I'd give it ample time, if you can't slap on a submission soon after a taking a man down, it's a failed maneuver, so break, and work in that tactic another way. I won't relent on the ground and pound though, that shit needs to go.
I was referring to this quote, "...and put a quick timer on how long the fighters can roll around on the mat without a submission hold being slapped on." I agree if nothing is happening to stand them up. But just because there is no submission, you cannot just stand them up. If they are both trying to improve position or are striking, then you need to let them keep working on the ground.
And, yes, the clinch game is VERY different in MMA compared to boxing.
As for you guys bitching about the card compared to a boxing card; it was on FREE tv. There were 5 fights. I had to pay like $50 to watch the Mayweather/De La Hoya card. I got 3 fights there, 2 with guys who are not near top-level boxers and a Main Event where the pound-for-pound champion of boxing ran around and refused to engage.
i'd agree, i watched the late telecast and it was so boring I fell asleep. I tried very hard to like UFC & MMA in general ( watching old Pride and WEC), but it is not happening.

The clinch game is totally different in MMA than it is in boxing. Many fighters actually work their best in the clinch, for example Randy "The Natural", you can knee, stomp on feet, and go for a takedown in the clinch. I have to agree though if you are doing NOTHING whatsoever than break it up, other than that let them fight.
i gave ufc a chance to watch yesterday and that shit was stupid is not even funny ppl talking shit about boxing..i was like wtf??? seriously i don't know how that shit is going to take over boxing that's bullshit!!! I BELIEVE THAT FOR U TO PROVE YOURSELF BEING A GOOD FIGHTER AND A GOOD ATHLETE IS ALL ABOUT UR FITS AND CONDITION FUCK THAT HOLDING AND CHOKING SHIT IN ONE OF THE FIGHTS ONE OF THE SUBMISSIONS ENDED UP IN A 69 POSE FOR GOD'S SAKE.
can't wait for a good boxing fight.

MMA needs an overhaul. It's too primitive looking for TV. The focus should move to showcasing different martial arts disciplines with esthetic rules, so it's easier on the eyes. Do away with striking a man when he's down (I turn the channel to some MMA the other day and the first thing on my screen was a guy mounting the other trying to punch, and it looked like he was riding him. Gay) and put a quick timer on how long the fighters can roll around on the mat without a submission hold being slapped on.
As for showcasing different disciplines, I'd like to see fights broken up in stages. I want to see how well these guys do everything, mixing it all in the same pot isn't so great because the end result looks a lot like bar room brawling. Real fighting is a hard sell to me. It's the same reason why rehearsed wrestling is more appealing than legit wrestling and boxing is appealing. It's esthetics over everyday realism.
the worst was easily the Cro Cop fight .. absolutly dreadful.
everything else I could tolerate. hell the Rampage bout was good, cuz he was the underdog (I know he was the champ and all) but I don't think many were picking him to win.
Its always this bad. I've watched tons of UFC PPV's and some Pride (For free). UFC is always this lame all the time, its just marketed very well, thats all. The UFC is hype, thats all it is.
Over here (England) it was on Setanta, but im not subscriber, however the channel was on for about 20 mins before the provider killed the signal, so i saw a bit of UFC,
No, i didnt like it, it is skilled though, but its still glorified street fighting.
