It is reported that unbeaten Jr-welterweight Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton is unhappy about the ticket allocation for his upcoming "super-fight" with Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 10th. The Manchester Evening News reports that Team Hatton have only been allocated 3,900 tickets for the travelling army of Hatton's fans. For the recent fight with Jose Luis Castillo in June in Las Vegas some 9,000 fans travelled from the UK alone. It is estimated that some 13,000 fans may have already booked hotels and flights from the UK prior to the tickets going on sales such is the anticipation for the fight in the UK. Hatton's father Ray Hatton commented, "I have never seen Ricky more gutted than this. We are trying to swap some of the more expensive tickets to get more tickets for Ricky's fans." It is estimated that of a 15,150 capacity for the event Hatton and Mayweather will each get 3,900 tickets and Golden Boy Promotions will be allocated 2,350 with a third being allocated to the MGM Grand for hotel guests and "high rollers" that will come into Vegas for the event. Team Hatton initially requested 10,000 for the event given the UK exodus for the Castillo fight in June
Now that is some funny shit!!!!!!! I think Floyd is actually paying 50 to kick it with him, that shit on 24/7 was so fake.
na, their association with james prince is how they became friends, thats something i can pretty much garuntee.
My opinion on this is this, this is a big money fight, in a big money venue, in a big money town. This isnt some mom and pop arena there to accomadate the little guy, or some travelling fan, its there to get people to spend money, big money, this fight is less of a sporting event and more of an attraction to GET people to spend that money.
There is no place in england like vegas and people need to accept the reality of why these fights take place there, MONEY and EXPOSURE.
About Hatton having more fans than Mayweather, maybe in europe, but not here. Hatton has almost no fanbase here because even with 3 fights here, the only decent one was the Castillo fight, and that wasnt exactly a barnburner. Alot of people dont really know who he is.
If Hatton has more fans than mayweather or more popularity than mayweather, lets compare his PPV statistics to Mayweathers, and dont just contribute it to "oh its because of mayweathers opponents", Mayweather/Judah was HUGE in the black/hip hop community, the Baldomir fight was one where he himself was the main attraction and he still did 325k.
DLH/Mayorga did 900,000 and mayorga has a far more crowd pleasing style than mayweather. To NOT attribute Mayweather to the success of the DLH ppv is denying that weather you like it or not MAYWEATHER is an attraction.
One thing i do know, messageboards are not a reflection of a community as a whole, while mayweather may be universally hated here, its not the same story in the real world.
Despite what many UK based posters think, Mayweather has a pretty decent fanbase, especially among the sporting community as well as a community not often mentioned on here, the BLACK community. Thats right, the BLACK community, a group of fans generally not well represented on this board. This is a big country, fans are spread out all throughout this country, they arent concentrated in 5 or 6 cities. I mean generally most black people who follow sports know who mayweather is, and his association with 50 cent also contributes to that. Alot of you people underestimate that, but then your the same people who said Wright vs Hopkins wouldnt sell and it did around 350k.
your not even seeing the MGM Grand's side of it.
Hatton and his team asked for 10,000 tickets? thats crazy
thats well over half the entire capacity of the MGM Grand.
your telling me, the MGM Grand which holds a lil over 16 thousand .. is gonna only leave 5,000 tickets for celebrities and Americans?
FUCK celebraties. If average people are willing to pay for and can get tickets then fuck the actors and rappers who probably get there ringside tickets for free anyway.
The seat allocation should be 50/50 for each fighter. If Hatton wants more and cant get it then tough shit. the fans who cant get seats will have to watch it in a bar. Same goes for Floyds fans.
The arena is too small.
Hatton is pissed off because this is his biggest fight and the fans that have followed him throughout his career will not be able to watch him ringside for it. He feels sorry for those fans. Thats all there is to it.
So let him cry about it. Fuck him, so what if he doesn't have all of his fans from the UK there to cheer him on from what alot of guys say on here is that he has more fans here than Floyd does so why is he worried about it.
I will bet money theres still over 10, 000 Brits in the mgm grand watching Hatton fight. They will get in by any means possible.
The yanks are in for a shock, the last thing they need is thousands of pissed up mancs locked out and on the rampage. I feel sorry for the touts for once, a few of them are looking at a good kickin if they try taking the piss
Yeah you Limey's scare the shit out of us Yanks.:pat:
if those guys are traveling half way around the world to see this fight, i think they deserve it more than the celebrities and americans.
Well that's about ridiculous.
Please refer to the thread "The greatness of Ricky Hatton"
I posted a video clip of Ricky virtually taking a dump in the ring. The actual boxing action is nearly unwatchable. Meanwhile the groupies are screaming "Yeah, Ricky!!"... "Get him Ricky"... etc.
That is what makes the Hatton groupies so insufferable. And leads RH to believe that he is actually an "exciting" fighter.
Much of the hate that Rickety gets isn't directed so much at him, as it is reflected hate directed towards his obnoxious groupies. Those are the people who will tell you that Hatton beat a prime Castillo.
i agree with dios, i didn't have a problem with hatton until after the tszyu fight. hatton deserves credit for beating tszyu but ever since that fight he has been hyped up as one of the best fighters, he's even considered as 1 of the top pound for pound boxers in the sport but in my oppinion has not even fought the top fighters in his division.
anyway i just don't like hatton because he is way to over rated and is not even in the same league with most of the top boxers in the sport
Absolutely, and nobody can say that Ricky has more fans than Oscar De La Hoya.
Also, for those who want more people in attendance: have you ever stopped to think how terrible the view would be if you put 50K fans in a stadium? I mean, come on, you'd barely be able to distinguish the three men in the ring, much less figure out who's landing the better punches. I think 20K is about the max for a boxing match. Anything more and you risk being too far away from the action and you'd be much better off just watching it on TV.
The view may not be great but the experience certainly would.
William,
How many American fans travel overseas to go see their team play? In fact - other than college football - how many fans travel to see ANY team play...even domestically?
If Oscar had a fight in France, would 10,000 fans fly over there? How many fans flew to Tokyo to see Tyson fight?
It's a different culture.

ricky should stop complaining
who does he think he is?? the King of England?
he's earning a career high in money for the fight and
he's gonna fuckin get damn near 4,000 fans cheering for him
he should stop crying and just worry about fighting floyd
He's fed up because he would have loved for his army of fans, who have followed him for the long haul, to have been able to witness this fight at ringside.
Personally I can't see why Hatton's fans 'deserve' more tickets than floyd's - the remaining tickets should just be put on the net/phone and sold first come first served, so if you realy want to go - get on that phone.
Am I the only one that doesn't like the fat drunk aggressive crowds that Ricky pulls in. he's a world class athlete that is supported by a load of football thugs. i was at the Tszyu and Maussa fights and made a decision not to go to a hatton fight again, it's like going to a Chelsea game. 95% of the people there were rabid about Hatton and had next to no boxing knowledge.
Sorry to sound like a snob, but I don't find continual repetitive chants from massive sweaty slobs "a good atmosphere".
the again, i bet they'll still waste all their money getting over there and buying off touts rather than spending it on their kids.
What the hell is Floyd gonna do with 3,900 tickets? In reality, he has only 2 fans. Leonard Ellerbe and 50 Cent.
Now that is some funny shit!!!!!!! I think Floyd is actually paying 50 to kick it with him, that shit on 24/7 was so fake.
Think about what you just said... The Pinoys... the Mexicans... the Puerto Ricans...
The Brazilians would lose their minds when Popo fought. Flags, soccer jerseys, etc.
FLOYD IS AMERICAN!!
Did you see that for Holyfield? Jones? Mosley? ...even Tyson?
American fans don't do that. Ethnic minorities or foreign fans root for their fighter for nationalism. It is deeply emotional for them. Americans don't generally do that. It isn't a part of their culture.
Evander Holyfield (aka Evan Fields) has sold BIG numbers. Fans clap when he walked in, then sat the fuck down, and watched the fight. No gay little songs, no signs, no sissy dances.
but we do do that during foothball or baseball games, its just boxing isn't as popular.

There's something vaguely sad about North American sports. The music playing, the scoreboards telling the crowd when and what to chant. The sponteneity that you get at the football, the rugby, hell even the cricket just isn't enjoyed in the same way in the US and Canada.

Boxing is in no way the top sport in England..... people just love Ricky here because he is just one of the lads and has a lot of heart and determination, much like Frank Bruno was.
Huge statement? I dont know anybody besides the few Floyd fanboys here that would disagree with me. Hatton has more fans than Floyd overall! Floyd doesnt even HAVE a fanbase. Yes he might have some fans, but u never see anybody in the crowd chanting and holding up posters/signs on behalf of Floyd.
Is that why Floyd sells more PPVs than Hatton, because Hatton has more fans? Dude, get off Hatton's dick already.
Tyson? People were crazy over Tyson during his prime. People respected the fact that he absolutely came in the ring with intent to destroy his opponent. Not win a safe points victory.
How many americans went to Japan to watch Tyson fight, 10k? HELL NO. That is just not what Americans are known to do if boxing was the top sport we would have 40k worth of Americans filling up the MAN arena, but that just isn't the case.
