I think it's obvious to anyone who has been following this fight, exactly what is going on here. Now, i'm not going to say Mayorga intimidated Vargas. I'm not going to say Vargas thought he was out trained and out conditioned. However, I will toss out the possibility that Vargas will not be fighting Mayorga come September 8th, due to weight issues surrounding him.
First of all, Anemia (which Vargas claims to have been diagnosed with) is a blood problem that doesn't just pop up, you don't get Anemia as you do a common cold. He would have known about this for awhile, and used this as an excuse, because he is having trouble making weight.
I'll leave you with this video, how can you not love this guy?
I seriously doubt its the weight issues(I know for sure Vargas has been in training for a long time before they even announced the fight.)
Did you see what kind of shape Vargas was in at the presser?
I believe it's legitimate health concerns that caused Vargas to pull out of this fight. I don't think a fighter of Vargas caliber and character is intimidated by over the top words of a guy like Mayorga.
Also believe that he realized that he's pregnant. He has to think of the baby.
Seriously, Vargas has no reason what so ever to be scared of Mayorga. Thats just not true at all. He just fought Mosley in his last fight, whats to be scared about?
Maybe he isn't scared and actually has an anemic problem, just maybe.
the first thing that popped into my head when i heard that fernando pulled out was i thought that whatever the reason it was a cover up because he couldn't make weight.
and i still do, i wouldn't doubt that for a minute, people have said and done a lot of things to postpone or pull out a fight, many many things.
but you never know vargas could have this problem and if he does i hope he gets the right treatment and continues with good health, although i'm not a fan of his i do want good health for him and any fighter unless they're a complete sack of shit, then i don't care.
but like someone said this isnt something that pops up like a common cold or flu with the shiffles, vargas has had a series of blood tests and even for when he was in that movie he had to have a blood test to even go on set, and i bet he's a one or two since then too. either they knew or they didn't. either way it's old news now, the important part is that he gets better...........either way by losing weight or by correcting this problem if it does really exist....i know that his pocket book aint feeling to good, there is money that he has to pay back for the training and the coaching, so putting off the fight isnt the best financial route for him................
There's always Heavyweight for Vargas, that way he doesn't have to train. Seriously, I think he was having trouble with the weight, it's over a year since he fought Mosley he's not getting any younger, so I think getting into that sort of shape is going to be very hard. If your around 190 making 162 is just as hard as making 154. I can't understand why fighters blow out so much.

My mother is severely anemic and she wasn't born with it. It didn't show up in her bloodwork until she was around 35 years old, and she seemed perfectly healthy at the time. Now she's a sickle cell anemic, which is the worst type of anemia there is. Her body produces no iron whatsoever and she must constantly take iron suppliments. She coughs up blood daily, and sometimes even pisses pure blood.
I'm not sure if Vargas' is that serious because we don't know yet, but you are certainly not born with anemia.
I can't blame people for not trusting Vargas and his camp after the steroids issue, and I've never even been a fan of him. Maybe I'm a bit naive but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here in saying that with his advancing age, the wear and tear his body has already been through, and his weight issue, anemia was probably brought on by training.
Of course he could be using it as an excuse not to fight Mayorga, and I certainly wouldn't put it past him. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until further details emerge.
On the contrary, Anemia is an inherited trait, and some children are born with it. You can certainly become anemic by iron defiency and blood loss, and other issues regarding your health, but being born anemic is definitely a possibility.

i Think it is a good call on his part. I think he really does have anemia and prolly always has had it. I think it might have been elevated and out of the norm when the blood test was taken. We don't need any more casualties in the ring and Mayorga will be there later in da yr or next yr. And also Like someone said earlier, Vargas is a proud guy who has never missed weight so why are people accusing him making excuses. This Vargas and he don't apologize or make excuses
vargas has admitted in several interviews that he likes to eat, when he was younger and fighting at 147 and 154 he would blow up in weight to around 190...now he's really gotten bad and blows up into 230, i dont think he ever really liked to train
"Fernando had never done these kinds of training modalities, so it was all new - and a big adjustment. He was 36 pounds overweight - he fights at 154 - so he has to lose 4 or 5 pounds a week. "former trainer"
i think it's bullshit, fuck fernando, he ain't got nothin wrong with him, i just lost all respect for him
I think alot of people share your opinion. The guy is a clown, who is very out of shape. They could have used a better excuse then Anemia, because that is a problem you are born with, it doesn't come into play weeks before a fight.
He might have already had it and is just exposing it now as an excuse, but the fact of the matter is, he is overweight, and out of shape.
