Oscar De La Hoya has warned Ricky Hatton not to lose his head when he first meets Floyd Mayweather face to face.
De La Hoya lost a split decision to Mayweather in May and is the promoter of December's multimillion-pound showdown between Hatton and Mayweather.
"I've been in some really big fights but even I had to bite my tongue when Floyd starting talking," said De La Hoya.
"Floyd is the world's best trash talker and it's very hard to ignore him when he starts.

"He likes to get right in his opponents' faces and insult them - it's part of his tactics.
"We went on a tour of various cities for our fight and I was close to losing my cool several times."
During press conferences in New York and Los Angeles Mayweather accused De La Hoya of being an "old man", a "bitch" and of "fighting like a girl". There were several flashpoints and De La Hoya's promotional partner Bernard Hopkins had to step between them many times.
De La Hoya added: "I know Ricky has a good sense of humour and he will need it when Floyd opens up.
"He never stops and he just keeps on and on with the same insults.
"It's like he is in a trance. It was a relief to finally get in the ring and get the fight on."
The British leg of the six-city tour to promote the December showdown will include an open session with the public and the press in both Manchester and London.
Mayweather said: "I'm gonna love being in front of all Hatton's fans and telling them that their man is going to get his arse kicked. I'm hearing that Hatton is not a confrontational type of guy. Well, I've got some shock news for him - he's in the wrong business!
"Right now Hatton is in the Mayweather business, and that is all about confrontation."
Hatton, meanwhile, has laughed off suggestions that Mayweather's insults and verbal assaults will upset his preparation.
He said: "I've heard big mouths talk before and if he starts to annoy me I'll put some earplugs in."
Possibly. but, ahhhh, if I'm right....If we find out that the little, pink man isn't on Floyd's level...
The "pink man?" Hatton is pink? Pink?
How is saying that someone is "British" classified as racial? YOU are the one making it racial.
Really? Have other people made this thing racial?
Talking about how an individual speaks is not automaticly a racial thing, so please don't use that as your answer. Sometimes the way people talk is just something that annoys you about another person. People are entitled to feel that way and they are not required to make exceptions for idiots, or people who chose to sound dumb.
Yeah, no big deal. Hatton was the first one to really trash talk Mayweather. In fact, he's been doing it usually after his last couple of fights.
Yeah Hatton is an effective trash talker as well. He did get PBF out of retirement afterall didnt he? Otherwise PBF would still be with his pipe and slippers on his single sofa with his feet propped up in front of the log fire.
Optimus,
Your multiple inconsistencies make me believe that you have some other unspoken motivations for criticizing, um, er, "certain fighters" in all your posts.
You say that there's nothing "british" about wit, and accuse me of making it racial. For someone who lives in London, I would have thought that you knew that the modern UK is a multi-cultural society. Maybe you do realize that and just resent it. Who knows?
YOU made it racial. Curious. Perhaps not.
I CLEARLY demonstrated that there is a different in British wit/humour and American wit/humour. I am neither Brit nor American, but I can discern between the two.
I'm sure that PBF is just happy that Hatton has taken the fight.... finally. It was getting a bit wearisome for all of us to hear Hatton turn down the fight and to hear an active champion ask for 'tune-ups".
We'll just wait for December. The great thing is that they will get in the ring together. So the truth will come out. Either way.
Cheers.
I resent much of what you have posted there.
Back to ignore.
To Dios,
I honestly don't believe you are worth debating with, on this topic or any others regarding Mayweather. perhaps it is because you're tired of people "hating" on him, but either way for some reason you retreat into a shell where you are immediately looking to discredit someone elses point rather than understand it.
1) Oscar says "Ricky be careful you don't get wound up by the trash talk, in the fight i'm promoting....floyd really threw me with his chat leading up to our fight, so much so that after being competitive for two thirds of the fight, I lacked the instinct to go on and win." Not exactly the most watertight evidence of Floyd's windup credentials.
Hatton has never shown any inclination to care about mayweather's banter before - in fact maybe the warning should go the other way round since Hatton talked PBF out of "retirement" by slating his style.
Basically, the whole thread is a non-starter - PBF won't get to hatton, and I doubt Hatton will get to mayweather. The result will depend on the condition and fight plans of the two fighters, along with the bit of luck that every top class athlete needs on their day.
And I don't need to read wikipedia to understand what wit means. It is a word that goes back millennia before Fawlty towers was exported to the US.
I think that Estrada loves for his opponent to stand in front of him and slug it out and really doesn't have a style that I can even acknowledge but he does have power and can hurt. As far as Berto he has some style and power. I know he's young in the game but with the old stick and move he can at least survive to beat Estrada by decision. I don't know if he can knock Estrada out because he does have a chin (I watched Kermit) put it on him and his heart kept him in the game.
Why do you say that it may be too soon for Estrada...he's been around for awhile right! I think that if Berto stays calm and not go in trying to kill and win just by knock out...just stick to the basics...(boxing) he can win.
Agreed.
When people are very dismissive ("he's shit") without any rationale or reason, then that tells you that it is abject jealousy. And you can't apply logic to that.
The jealousy is something they just need to work though themselves.
I wouldnt apply that to Optimuswolf though. But like Bobby Pazuzu was saying earlier, Floyd is "desperate to be popular" which is why hes nice to fans, then turns around and says if mayweather wasnt arrogant, hed be better liked. Now shit like that is just plain hate.
theres nothing "British" about wit, stop bringing race into it.
Mayweathers trash talk didn't change oscar's fight plan, he just couldn't keep up the pace and floyd fought well. Ali certainly got to foreman, and I'm sure other fighters have been affected by the build up to a fight, whether it be overconfidence or intimidation, or by gaining steely resolve. I can't see it being anything except perhaps the latter between Hatton and Floyd.
If he was as good at winding people up as he is at boxing, maybe it would be different. But he's shit.
Ali got to foremon not just because of his talk, but the entire public was behind ali during that fight in africa, it would probably annoy me too. I do think mayweather must be good at something, because people on this site hang off his EVERY word, so to say hes shit negates the fact that people do pay attention to him

Floyd Mayweather, Jr interview follows. I guess I fail to see all the "ebonics" and "inarticulate" charges. English isn't my first language...so maybe I'm missing something.

Hes not, trust me, hes speaking normal english despite what some of these assholes are saying.
EDIT: To Black Jesus re: Floyd talk vs Hatton.
i think you're mixing up racial background with intelligence and wit.
Floyd isn't funny - his trash talk might work (have we seen any evidence of this? it certainly didn't seem to influence Oscars fight performance) but he doesn't have the wit that Hatton does, or rather his wit is appreciated on average those who have a limited experience of comedy.
I dont think he tries to be witty as much as he just tries to get under your skin with direct insults. But to be honest, like i told another user, he actually is pretty well spoken when he wants to be, as opposed to james toney whom i have to really listen closely to understand what hes saying.
