Neither fighter was shot.
They were clearly past their primes, but not done. Shot would be the version of Roberto Duran that fought William Joppy.
Alright then... my question to you. What respected boxer can Castillo now beat in his weight class?

How can anyone who watched Hatton v Tszyu seriously claim that he was shot? That is a fucking joke and I have to question whether the people who have said that Tszyu was shot actually watched the fight.
Tszyu was ranked p4p #3 at the time, is this when a fight loses he becomes shot thread? would Castillo of been shot if the fight went 12 rounds and Hatton didn't land that body shot?.
VERY GOOS PERNTS ( POINTS )
Kostya wasn't at his best, but he was still a factor at 140. Castillo on the other hand was done. I almost turned off my TV when I saw Castillo swing wildly and just about fall on his face 20 seconds into the fight.
You need statistics to have statistical inference, not a subjective contention that Castillo was not past his best (because this is not a question of whether he is past his best) but "shot" which I would loosely define as being so far beyond his best that he would be considered nothing more than an opponent for the padding of the records of prospects. Castillo would likely defeat most Junior Welterweights as it stands today, an assertion backed up by the Ring Magazine who still rank him sixth at 140.
Ring magazine rankings are opinions.
What happens in the ring is data.
Statistics doesnt need physical measures, there is such thing as qualitative data (anything that can be ranked). Clearly if a fighter is in his prime or past it is a qualitative concept, and inference on it can be based on qualitative data.
If you have seen Castillo fighting before and after Corrales you would notice a big difference in worse. This is what I am talking about, and it clearly supports the hypothesis that Castillo is either past it or hardly a force at 140. Nothing on earth, measurable or observable backs up the claim "Castillo could beat everyone else at 140". Except PAST performances at 135.
this is something that annoys me in all sport. when two teams or people who are supposed to be at the top of there game(or some what close to it) face off and the the one team/person dominates the contest, why does it always come down to the loser being shot or injured or what ever excuse. why is the reason of such one sidedness not stated, as what i think is the real reason in most cases, that the winner was just to good at that time and did not let the loser get into there usual rythem. for me 9 times out of ten i feel that the better team/person just got it right that night and the inadequesie of the loser is solely down to how good the winner was.
Both were shot, and they were shot IMO before the ricky fights, Castilo was shot after the second Corrales fight, on the slide after the first it was a huge take on his body and future in boxing IMO and Zoo ive PERSONALLY never seen what the big deal was with him, seen almost all of his fights, well everyone i could find on the net or have fights on tape in my house and personal i think ricky would have beat him if he was shot or not, but he was and ricky did
I surely can, it's called statistical inference. You dont know if Castillo is the same as he was, you look at one performance in the ring, then you push your estimate (an informed opinion) in one direction or the other. A fighter looking worse than he ever did before is a sample toward "Castillo is not the same he was", if not strictly "shot". There would be nothing you have seen in a ring that could possibly push your estimate in the direction of "Castillo is the same".
Just in the same way, those screaming "zoo was shot" have little to back that up, considering how zoo looked against Mitchell.

I wouldn't say that necessarily.
I thought Mitchell was winning the first fight until his knee went out. The second fight was definitely one sided, and I think that had a lot to do with Mitchell's knee problems. He lacked the mobility that defined all of his previous fights, and was like a sitting target for Tszyu's power punches.
Tszyu deserves the credit for the knockout and winning the first fight by that stoppage, but Mitchell showed in the first fight he was definitely able to contend and given that injury didn't occur I think he would have won a decision handedly.
Those are only if's and buts.
Mitchell's success in that first fight with Tszyu is the reason Hatton ducked Sharmba while Tszyu was out with his injury...
bollocks, tszyu beat mitchell twice completly outclassed the guy.

Let's get two things straight here.
1. Castillo was shot. He looked absolutely awful.
2. Ricky Hatton looked absolutely great in his win over Castillo. I don't know about everyone else, but I didn't take a thing away from him in his win over Castillo. I mean, I don't think it was as significant as beating a prime Castillo, but it wasn't a negative mark on the career of Ricky. More than anything, it answered some questions, but left some unanswered, because Castillo didn't get Ricky in trouble or anything like that, so the only thing we don't know is if Ricky will be able to keep going if a great fighter gets him in trouble.
bullshit, from the first 20 seconds of the fight, you could see castillo wasnt going to win, and NOT BECAUSE OF HATTON, he was slow, hatton went in for the clinch castillo almost fell and looked weak, everytime castillo threw a punch he looked horrible. castillo was escotred to the ring by chavez jr that night, and wouldnt have beaten chavez jr
You're right. Castillo looked like nothing more than a journeyman opponent once the bell rang...
All anyone gives on here is their opinion. You cannot suggest that there are "empirical facts" that a fighter is "shot" unless there is some sort of controlled scientific experiement that can be conducted to provide sturdy evidence.

Castillo was past his best but still more than capable of beating most guys at 140 lbs so I don't think you could call him shot. Tszyu wasn't shot by any stretch.

No just Castillo I could tell he was shot from the first round. He couldn't even stand up straight in there his legs were going every which way. But Tyszu had some good moments in the fight. And if he kept fighting he may ghave had a shot at a KO or maybe getting a close decision or draw. That's why I can't believe he quit becuase he had his moments in the fight.
....Castillo was shot and Zoo had an off night and couldn't get rolling. I give credit to Hatton, but on neutral soil with Zoo on his game it's no costest.
Wow, you voted for only Tszyu was shot... the only person so far, your credibility is pretty much permanently damaged now.
haha i just wanted to be different...
