First of all, TAYLOR-PAVLIK is gonna be an awsome awsome fight, as was HAGLER-MUGABI
Both Taylor and Hagler were coming off recent Mega wins going into the fight. Taylor coming off wins over Hopkins and a draw with Wright. Hagler was coming off his classic win over Hearns and a win over Duran a few years prior.
Pavlik plays the role of Mugabi, a relatively untested fighter with a SPECTACULAR knockout record. Mugabi had recorded 26 knockouts in 26 fights. Pavlik has recorded 28 knockouts in 31 fights.
Taylor obviously plays the role of Hagler, the undisputed middleweight champion of the world.
The Hearns war was just one fight. Even in the Mugabi fight, Hagler spent most of the early rounds boxing and jabbing him silly. Hagler beat Mugabi up on the inside later on the fight.
Hagler spent the great portion of his career as a boxer-puncher, the Hearns fight was different from how he usually fought, but for some reason people think he always fought like that.
But compared to his earlier self he was always more static and focused on power punching in the 80s in general.
it's easy tounderstand. His most popular win was against Hearns and that was a brawl. And he came forward a lot and most of his fights were great

and to say taylor is coming off big wins....wasn't his last fight against spinks?....before that ouma.....nuff said.....Hagler is an all-time great homie....these fights next for taylor will tell us what he is because up to now he's not even close.....
Wow why are people so touchy with even the THOUGHT of Jermain Taylor being anywhere near the level of MMH,nobody says Jermain is that good at this point in his career it's obvious but damn no need to get so touchy about it even being mentioned people.
IGNORE whats going on in the ring when they meet. im talking only about outside the ring similarities. Of coarse there are gonna be plenty of others, these two just struck me as similar, as i was just watching Hagler-Mugabi and the though popped into my mind.
And i agree that Pavlik will win. Manny stewards seems confident that his man will disgard Pavlik in under 6 round though.
And Pavlik will be a true champ if he wins. Maybe not an all tiem great, but he's hungry and he wants to unify and make the best fights happen, and for me that makes a true hcamp
Pavlik is going to be an exciting champ for sure.
Taylor makes fight happens, too (hell, he fought Hopkins, Hopkins, Winky, one of the most difficult sequence in the history of boxing I'd say). He seems good people, too. There is nothign wrong with him, until the bell rings.
When I see him fight, I wonder if I actually like boxing.
(Note that I love watching pure boxers at work, I love skilled infighters like Hatton or JLC, I even like watching Hopkins or Casamayor be dirty as a road in the desert).
Steward is doing well to pump up Taylor, maybe he needs it to fight in a more convinced/convincing way.
The "Hagler was a brawler" myth is quite simply, one of the most annoying misconceptions in boxing.

I see, that's why I listed fights where the contender has a ton of KO, the contender is unproven and the champ is a skilled boxer with good KO ratios.
BTW, Taylor doesnt match Hagler, Hopkins, Nunn, Toney (the previous lineal MW champs) for neither skills, nor KO ratios.
Sorry for pointing out the discrepancies, but to me it sounds a bit like comparing Gatti-Ward 3 to Thrilla in Manila. (Not Pavlik's fault)

OBVIOUSLY there are TONS of fights where the champ fought the #1 contender. Not many are between boxer-punchers, and megapunchers. And there are plenty of other similarities as well, like i listed before. These two fights just struck me as similar. calm the fuck

Mugabi lost everytime he stepped up because Hagler fucked him up for good, kinda like Reid or M. Taylor. In the Hagler fight he showed to have an amazing chin, which was never there afterwards.
He had decent skills, and he gave Hagler problems because Hagler was slipping (Leonard decided to fight Hagler after seeing him fight Mugabi).
Did you only see Hagler fights from 1983 and on, by any chance?
I am asking, because Hagler was one of the most skillful boxers you would have seen if you saw him before his "destruct and destroy" (or whatever it was exactly) phase.
The "Hagler was a brawler" myth is quite simply, one of the most annoying misconceptions in boxing.
Ok, sorry now I understand.
It's s similar to the extremely rare middleweight fights where the champions took on unproven contenders with a lot of KOs.
Nunn-Toney
Hopkins-Echols
Hopkins-Eastman
Hagler-Mugabi
Hagler-Obelmejias
...
Idiot
And no, a win where you looked like shit is not a big win.

lol. Mugabi could punch and he had pretty good speed, maybe arguable an underrated boxer, but he wasnt a great fighter. His style gave Hagler plenty of problems for a little bit though. Everytime he stepped up he got knocked out.
And Hagler may be a Middleweight great, and even the greatest middleweight ever, but he wasn't this fuckin god everybody made him out to be. Its not a much lower skill lever. Taylor is a very good fighter, you dont make a Hopkins decision controversial without plenty of talent
Its definetly lower, but not all those Very's lol
who r u pickin btw

Idk who to pick, I would say Pavlik, but maybe Taylor actually has something to show us. Whoever wins I hope he's a better champion than the version of Taylor we have seen so far.
BOLD PARTS ARE ME

It is going to an awesome fight, but completely different from Hagler-Mugabi. They dont know who to match with Taylor to make him come forward... definitely not a problem of Hagler at that stage of his career, quite the opposite in fact.
Hagler was a come forward fighter... Taylor fights backwards all the time. And i agree that the fight will be different, but i think the fight is similar in many ways outside the ring
\/\/\/\/HOW THE FUCK IS THIS PART REDICULOUS? its not even my opinion! LOL. its HARD COLD FACT!!!! hhahahha
Who cares how you THINK he LOOKED, he still WON THE FIGHTS and they are MEGA WINS whether you like it or not.
LMAO, this part is ridiculous
Taylor has been the weakest lineal MW champion of the past 25 years, he looked like shit in all of his title fights, except against Ouma.
Hagler was in the 6th year of a reign in which he cleaned out MW by knocking everyone out except Duran. This, after he cleaned out MW in the 70s before getting a title shot. One of the most dominant champions in the history of the division, of the sport in general. Coming into the Mugabi fight Hagler had 61 victories, 50+knockouts
How can you compare him with Taylor?
Are you a fuckin idiot??? LOL!!! Ive said it like a million times already in this thread. TAYLOR IS OBVIOUSLY NO HAGLER!!!!! I just said they are coming off Mega wins. Thats the only comparison i made.
this part is true
Not even their styles are similar. How is Taylor playing that role.
Cause Pavlik is Playing the role of Mugabi... and that only leaves one role left... And by ROLE i just meant the fact that they are both the champ, and Pavlik and Mugabi were both #1 contenders.

Not a MUCH lowe skill level but yea, i guess. Not that there was much skill involved in the mugabi fight lol. from round 6 on it was a war
A VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERY MUCH lower skill level.
On a much lower skill level I'm assuming. I havent seen the Mugabi fight yet. It was a war? I'll have to find it somewhere.
It was a good fight.
Hagler jabbed Mugabi silly, meanwhile taking his share of good shots, before ultimately beating Mugabi up inside in the latter rounds.
Round 6 is a classic.
