There's very little debate whether Mayweather is considered to be the current best PFP fighter the game today. Question is...what does PBF need to do to bring his popularity to the level of Delahoya to bring in a larger fan base?
Talking shit and being black doesn't make you a gangster.QUOTE]
lol its true. But most of the haters on here act like cause a black guy is listening to rap that makes him a gangster
If he would just fight the other top guys in the WW division he should be straight. He'll prove to the fans that he's not all talk. He claims he can beat the other top WW's so why not go out and do it. I hope he fights the winner of Cotto/Mosely next. I'm hoping that Cotto wins. That way he would be in the ring with another undefeated young champion whos gonna bring the fight to him by throwing non stop punches and not tiring. I'm not saying Mosely won't bring the fight to him, but who honestly wants to see that. If Floyd wins that fight people would use Shane's age as an excuse. With Cotto there would be no excuses.
Where does Floyd portray a gangster? I don't see him throwing up signs or wearing certain colors. And I haven't heard Floyd release any cd's. Talking shit and being black doesn't make you a gangster. Sounds like you don't know what your talking about.
Thats the thing, I DONT CARE WHAT HE DOES WITH HIS MONEY. I was just responding to the poster who made the comment about Oscar and his "old" car. As for it being all an act? I dont think so. Floyd really wishes that he was this person that he portrays on tv. Rapper/Gangster/thug/etc...QUOTE]
How do you know about the bold? You do care somewhat about what he does with his money or you wouldn't have made the comment you made? Its one thing to comment but the comment you made it seems like you care. If really wanted to be a gangster he wouldn't have back down when a person he had business dealings with threatened him and had Leonard Ellerbe beat the fuck up. Come on that shit is all for t.v.
Why do you care about what he does with his money? Why can't you see that this is all his act?

Nobody is saying that Floyd aint rich. I just pointed out that although he was making a few mil here and there, he just NOW started making the "BIG TIME" money. He is nowhere near Oscar when it comes to net worth. One poster was goofing on Oscar for driving an old Land Rover Discovery. So because Oscar is filthy rich he has to go out and spend about 5mil on cars ala Floyd? Once Floyd looses his first fight, his marketibilty will go waaaay down because the majority of people who currently tune in to watch his fights, do so to see him lose or get ko'd. Everytime the fool is on t.v, every other word out his mouth is "money", as if he was the first boxer to make alot of money. He should take that money and hire somebody to teach him some class and how to act like a proffesional. It'll be the best investment he can make.
Why do you care about what he does with his money? Why can't you see that this is all his act?
Its so funny how mis educated some of the new to boxing fans are. Floyd has been making millions for years and he also has investments just like Oscar does.
Don't get caught up!

all of these guys are rich as shit, as long as they aren't completely retarded and forget about this little things called "taxes" they're all doing fine. don't worry about their money worry about yourself.
i don't understand people's obsession with other people's money and other people being rich. watch them box, watch them fight, hold them to doing their job. which is to entertain you in the ring.

i'm a floyd fan but i think he would be more popular and generate more money if he'd had a loss earlier in his career. he's scared to death of loosing his 0. being unbeaten is a big part of what it means to be floyd mayweather, if he had a professional loss on his record, he would look at himself differently and perhaps be more of an exciting fighter, as the difference between no losses and one loss, is huge compared to the difference between 1 loss and 2.
once being unbeaten is no longer a possibility he'd be forced to show his greatness and superiority in other ways.
Ok, Oscar has a million dollar yauct. So? He's a very successfull boxer/buisnessman. Oscar didnt JUST become rich and start buying lavish luxuries, he's BEEN rich. Floyd on the other hand has JUST started making the "BIG TIME" money. He's one of those "I make 1mil, and spend 800k kind've guys" Dont mean to sound racist in anyway because im not, but Floyd is acting "n..ger rich". I just saw a video of Floyd rapping! He now wants to be a rapper, and calls himself "Money Mayweather" I'll post it for you. Maybe it might turn u on!
PBF has been rich what the fuck are you talking about. PBF just got into the very top echelon of money makers but he has been right under them for years. He was getting between 2 and 4 mill at minimum per fight when he was under contract with HBO. If buying yourself lavish and expensive things is acting "****** Rich" then everyperson with money is acting that way.
Is Paris Hilton acting "****** rich"?
deevel,
Pobrecito. Don't believe the hype. Are you THAT naive? Don't just buy anything that someone sells you. You must try to think for yourself.
Notice that they showed you Oscar's old Mommy-wagon, but they didn't show you his million-dollar yacht. 24/7 was just a well-crafted publicity stunt. A marketing campaign. They 'created' caricatures of those guys. HBO shot THOUSANDS of hours of footage and showed you TWO hours.
I'm sure that you are a very nice guy. But you have alot to learn, my son.

Actually, I had always wondered what octane gas Oscar puts in his nine year old Land Rover Discovery. I was glad to see it was 89.
Thats why Oscar will be rich for life, while in 10-15yrs, Floyd will be working in a carwash/fast food restaraunt ala Leon Spinks because he spent all his allowance money that Oscar gave him on: Bling, Rims, Cars, More bling and rims, and paying people to be his friend.
Nothing... he has built his marketing strategy on pissing everyone off, so people will pay in hopes that he will lose. De La Hoya made fans by being the nice guy, exciting fighter... that's probably why their fight sold so well, because almost everyone likes Oscar, and almost everyone hates Floyd.
Marketing strategy? LOL I dont think so. Floyd had no choice BUT to play "bad guy". Nobody likes him ANYWAY.

God, I wish I could give you more rep again, that made me laugh, really hard.
Exactly. He was the most interesting part of 24/7, love him or hate him. He is the most talked-about fighter, and he is in 2007's TWO biggest fights.
Life is long. He has plenty of time to change his image. Right now, "asshole" is making him buckets of dough. He has made a conscious decision to adopt that persona.
I'm gonna post an interesting article from the Gatti era.
Really? I was much more entertained by hearing about Oscar's dogs and how he likes his coffee (from a machine, not fresh WTF?!?) in the morning.
Oh yeah Baldomir was welterweight champion from beating Judah, memory lapse in action there, he vacated it though. Let's see him beat paul Williams, Kermit Cintron, and Miguel Cotto to regain that title.
Another lapse alert!
He didn't vacate shit at 147. He is still WBC champion and The Ring champion. Mosley got the interim title meaning that the winner of Cotto-Mosley will be the mandatory for Mayweather.
I will take this a step farther than everyone else has. I don't think that Floyd can just afford to be the bad guy, I think it benefits him. He genuinely is a cocky fuckhead most of the time, so it is real hard for a guy like that to be a fan favorite. He does very well playing the guy who thinks he is god. I personally just think that he plays the role well, and it's his natural attitude on the subject, so why not go with it? It obviously has worked, in addition to him being the P4P #1, that is exactly why Mayweather-De La Hoya was able to break all the records, even eclipsing the biggest Tyson fight of all time, which is absolutely incredible.
If you can't see this for what it is then you're foolish. Floyd can afford to be a bad guy. Does not have to be likeable at all. He wins fights. What if the tables were turned what if the other fighters were portrayed as the bad guys?? Oscar a bad guy??? He hasn't won a fight against a notable boxer in 4 years..can you see him calling someone a b fighter. There always has to be a hero and a villan. Its american as apple pie. We wouldn't be here talking right now if floyd didn't exist.
You are exaggerating, and stretching the truth.
He didn't "steal". Oscar's gym bag. He "took" Oscar's gym bag and dared Oscar to come get it.
He openly admits that he took Oscar's bag: "Yeah, I took your bag. Do something about it. Come do something about it."
It is a matter of punking Oscar and taking Oscar's manhood. Not "stealing", per se.
Also, PBF said "I respect Oscar as a man, but not as a fighter. That's just the type of guy I am.". You can pull the presscon up on YT.
oh i get it you went to the george w bush school of lies and half truths. man you have proven yourself a true idiot on here enough to make your momma feel stupid for having you. Please stop posting this nonsense. Heres how it breaks down in that situation: A. He stole the bag or B. it was a gimmick ploy for the show but not: C. whatever nonsense you tried to twist that event into making you a douchbag fan of mayweathers who will defend his every move even to the point of looking like an idiot in front of everyone who posts here! Get it?
Ummm, Gatti was at 140.
Floyd beat the legitimate and linear WW champion. Forget that?
