He was destroying everyone at 130 just like Mayweather was. I've also heard the RING had Corrales ranked in the top 10 P4P at the time Mayweather fought him.
Do you consider the version of Corrales that Mayweather faced as an elite fighter?

had to vote yes cause he reminded me of a little hitman, it could be debated. He was at an all-star level and had k.o. ability out of both arms, and his chin wasn't bad he just didn't set his offensive up, he just sent out invitations i will be right here, so his defensive was bad. He was Cottoish
That can't be true, at the time there was oscar, tito, zu,mosley, and a few I am missing, 5 is pretty darn high.
take oscar off that list, he had just lost to Mosley the first time.
#5 is possible, it seems a little high to me too, but not impossible.
Chico was rated #5 p4p by the Ring right before the Mayweather fight, actully.
Of course he was an elite fighter.
No question.

He was a great fighter, but elite is pushing it if you consider an all-time scale.
I think we all agree on that, he is not in the league of Arguello, Chavez, Mayweather, Nelson... (order of these is alphabetical by last name so that no one bothers me about it)
I wouldnt go as far as saying he was elite. He wwas sure fun to watch though. Sucks he died but in my book he wasnt elite
Were not talking about all time here, were talking about the 130 pound weight class in 2001, where he was top dog.
It was more of a toss-up fight if I remember correctly, which is why HBO was pushing for it. Corrales had destroyed a boxer in Gainer and Mayweather had just been roughed up by Augustus, finally showing some vulnerability, but people weren't exactly writing Floyd off. I think HBO was hoping Floyd got destroyed for what he said about them and their offer.
I seriously doubt The Ring had Corrales in the top 10 considering that list was populated by Mosley, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Tszyu, Morales and Roy Jones. Maybe he had worked his way in somehow, but I doubt it.
Corrales was definitely an elite 130lber. He only lost two fights at that weight, to Mayweather and Casamayor. He also beat Casamayor at that weight and KO'd just about everyone else he fought.

Of course he was elite, unless
1) by elite you mean something like top 5 atg at that weight
or
2) you hate Floyd Mayweather Jr. with a passion and you have to distort reality to accomodate your pathetic needs.
Diego Corrales was a great fighter.
he rarely lost fights and no matter how bad it seemed for him he was always in the fight (with at LEAST a punchers chance)
diego's only real BIG flaw was his chin.
i regard him as an elite at 130...maybe not THEE BEST but right up there with them.
I don't think his chin was such a big deal. He took beatings from people for round and rounds. I reckon a lot of boxers (good boxers) in his weight divisions would have gone down from a lot of the bombs Castillo, Casamayor and Floyd threw at him in some of the early rounds of their fights. Chico never went down against Castillo until 9. Before then he'd had 8 rounds of hammering from JLC.
Diego Corrales at the time was 33-0 with 27 KO's
Wins over: Derrick Gainer, Angel Manfredy, Justin Juuko, Roberto Garcia
No great names but he was a pretty good fighter at 130. Not no pushover.

Yeah, he was. We shouldn't just let the fact he was an amazing warrior (the most amazing warrior) cloud our vision though, he was good at what he did, as well as taking a beating from those who gave him a beating, and still going on in many cases to win.
He was a good fight.
Just he was fighting the wrong fight against Mayweather he wast throwing enough punch just stalking without punching. that was at Super FW.
and Lightweight he fought the top three fighters there and fought there fight and won them. Imagine how many fighters could fight the other fighters gameplan and still win.
Frietas - Puncher - Outpunched him
Casamayor- Boxer- Outboxed him
Castillo- brawler- Outbrawled him
