Pavlik so far but in reality its the winner of Hatton v Floyd.
How does a win over Edison Miranda make this guy the best in the sport for the year of 2007? Did anyone think Edison Miranda was super elite before the fight? I know I didn't, a win over Miranda is like a win over Mayorga.
Floyd.
He hit Oscar with Suzie Q after Suzie Q. His greatest showing as a professional fighter by far, and in my book nothing he's done even compared to that.
The best Oscar we've seen in years (despite being old) he beat on.
I don't like the bastard but that was impressive.
If he beats Hatton hes a lock for FOTY.
I think cotto at the moment, and if he beats shane then definatly.
If hatton could beat floyd then it would be him. Also if floyd beat hatton then he would win fighter of the year.
I think we will have to wait till the end of the year to see whos been the best. :boxing: :boxing:
So far i think Paul Williams has maybe had the best win of the year so i would say him but with the Cotto v Mosley and PBF v Hatton fights in the pipeline, im sure the fighter of the year will emerge from one of those fights.
Miguel Cotto is defiantly my pick, and if he beats Mosley hands down he will be the fighter of the year.
ALL COTTO DID WAS BEAT THE SHIT OUT ZAB JUDAH AND THESE DAYS THAT AINT HARD TO DO. ZAB IS LIKE 3 AND 6 IN HIS LAST 9 FIGHTS SO HOW CAN COTTO BE LEADING FOR FIGHTER OF THE YEAR:puppy_dog
If Pavlik beats Jermain(which won't happen) then I think its him. If Floyd beats Hatton(which will happen) then it could be him. I would put Cotto up there but I don't think so.
If Hatton wins then he's fighter of the year IMO.
yea that's right, too much skill and dancing/running ability is boring, that fight had too much skill and no moments of wow, dlh and pbf. both were to caucious. it was obvious pbf was too caucious, and vice versa with dlh. fight of the year? no chance, pbf fighter of the year? no chance, hype of the decade, strong chance. i don't hang from any fighters nutts, i'd rather say what i see, and that's in plain veiw.
I'm glad you aren't on the panel for fighter of the year awards then, if you think not standing in front of someone and blocking punches with your face makes someone less of a fighter.
Haha too much skill, definately can't be the fighter of the year, because he's just way too skillful! Uhhh, what?
It is too damn early to say who is the fighter of the year so far. Everyone has only fought 1 match (or at least one significant match). Mayweather beat De La Hoya, Cotto beat Judah, Hatton beat Castillo. Unfortunately, I think Cotto is out of the picture to be honest. He has a tremendous year that would likely have gotten fighter of the year most years (assuming he beats Mosley), but the Mayweather-Hatton showdown just seems to lock it up. Mayweather's win over De La Hoya is certainly more impressive than the Judah win, and by such a wide margin that I think a win over Mosley (by Cotto) wouldn't make up enough ground in comparison to a win over Hatton for Mayweather. If Hatton beats Mayweather, there isn't even argument to who is fighter of the year. The top challenger in his division and then the P4P #1? No one can beat that resume.
Taylor hasn't done shit, and yes I know it was a joke.
Pavlik's win over Miranda was good, but it's like a win over Mayorga... against a one-dimensional fighter. Even a win over Taylor won't be big enough for fighter of the year, because Taylor's stock has free fallen in the eyes of The Ring magazine. He went from 5th to off the list in the P4P rankings within a few weeks of the Spinks fight.
Marquez and Vazquez are both total studs... but guys who bat .500 on the year, with their only fights being wins and losses against one another isn't going to be enough to get fighter of the year (they will likely be given round of the year though for their third round of their second fight). I don't even think the winner of the rubber match (if it is in December) will be enough to put them over the top for this race.

We can't compare fights that hasn't happen yet, or can we?
I was talking about the fights that was already fought, just like the Marquez/
Vasquez II. ODLH/PBF, BHop/Wright and Taylor/Spinks... http://emoticons4u.com/smoking/rauch23.gif
Ridiculous statement. Pavlik-Taylor, Mosley-Cotto, and Kessler-Calzaghe are all incredible match-ups on paper and at least one, if not all, are likely to be incredible fights. Kessler-Calzaghe, barring a cut early, is almost can't miss as an action fight.
I agree 100%. I think Marquez/Vazquez II is probably FOTY right now, but could EASILY be dethroned by Marquez/Vazquez III or Mayorga/Vargas. I only say easily because it only went 6 rounds, which is never a good prospect for a FOTY candidate.
Marquez/Vasquez III won't happen this year, so it is out of the equation. That 6
rounds you were talking about is probably worth more than the 3 so called "super" fights in the superwelter, middle and super middleweight division. I'll take
that puny 6 rounds that Marquez and Vasquez gave any day...
