The point is you dont stop a fight 4 seconds left of the last fkn round. Its jus ridiculous. If you let a guy take punishment from rounds 1-12, why in the hell would you decide to stop it 4 seconds before the bell in the last round! Especially on a fight were it was close and the opponent was winning on points.
So let me ask you... when there is a thunderous crowd roar starting at 12 seconds left in the round, meaning no one heard the 10 second warning, and this guy looks and is acting like he is fucking brain dead, how is the referee supposed to know that the round is nearly over? Someone who has been talking shit on the decision made by Steele answer the question.

So your saying Chavez was winning the fight?
I can agree with you.He wasnt winning it on points, but in damage he was!If i can remember correctly he broke or fractured 3 of taylors ribs, had him bleeding internaly and his face was FUCKED UP.AFter the Ko im pretty sure he just got up like anyother boxer would do.You cant say that he was Ok after tha Ko tho.Thats why he couldnt respond..he wasnt all there.
Steele should seen the time , but like he said a fighters health and life is more important. It was Taylors Not answering the question that lost him that fight.
he beat taylor twice, whether you like it or not, he beat taylor so bad that first fight, all you have to do is look at taylors face and then look at chavez's face. after the fight taylor was in the hospital for a while. the second fight, well we all know what happened. frankie randall and grover wiley? two diffrent chavez, frankie had some skills and chavez took him lightly, wiley you say, what was it jcc jr, said anyone could have knocked my dad out that night, hello he was 10- 13 years past his prime. the same with oscar and tszyu. he fought 1-2 times a month for all those years and he never ducked anyone even when he was past his prime, and you call chavez "overrated"? i don't think you know what you're talkin about. have you seen any of his fights? were you a fan of boxing from the early 80's on up, do you remember the time when chavez was pfp, i guess not, or you must have forgot, or just were'nt around when he was. every great fighter has an end to his career, if they decide to keep going idiots that are new to boxing only see from the end, and not from when they started out. my advice to you is go buy jcc's career set, and watch every fight to the last, and you will see why they call him el grand campeon mexicano, and why every mexican boxer worships him.
So your saying Chavez was winning the fight?
He fucked up taylor twice! The 1st fight he was Taylors own fault that he didnt respond to the question if he was alright. He looked the other way.The second fight chavez called out the round he was giong to ko him out in and guess what he did...KO his ass out...Made him fly across the damn ring ending the fight.
The first fight was a great fight where Taylor was winning until that bullshit fucking Steele decided to do what his last name says and steel the fight from Taylor and hand it to Chavez. Most ridiculous stoppage I can imagine. Taylor was standing right in front of Steele with 4 secs. left. Chavez wouldn't even of gotten off anymore shots by that time.
Yup. Who did Chavez actually beat that was an elite fighter? He had to have Richard Steele help him pull out the victory against Taylor who was boxing his ears off and making him look foolish. He lost to Frankie Randall and Grover Wiley for Christ Sakes!!! Then whenever he stepped up to fight an elite fighter he got demolished by Oscar and Tszyu. Like I said, "overrated".

Chavez SR. was not a bum but he did fight a shitload of them before fighting in the states. The reason why he is revered is because he had so many fights at a time when that amount of fights was last seen in the 40's or 50's. He did beat good fighters but not great fighters with the possible exception of Camacho. He had wins over decent contenders like MAyweather, Haugen, Laporte, lockridge and Rosario. At 130 and 135 he beat contenders who were good but not great , no real standouts. He struggled as he went up to 140 and 147 , fortunate to stop taylor with 2 seconds to go, outclassed by Whitaker, beaten by Randall twice (Officials screwed randall in the second fight) and lost to ODLh twice with the second fight being stopped because he quit. I have respect for the man who made Mexico feel proud to have such a tenacious and relentless warrior but after 140 he fell off. The reason why Chavez is worshipped is because at the time that Chavez fought Mexico did not have another fighter that they could root for. Salvador Sanchez died in a car accident and he was well on his way in becoming a star in boxing. Chavez filled the void and benefitted from not having competion from boxing fans who could be split in rooting for another fighter. Morales and Barrera are two fighters that Mexico support but fans are split as to who they support more, chavezz had no competition so he became Mexico's idol. Chavez deserves respect but his career is debatable from objective fans who recognize his greatness but also recognize his limitations.
^^^^^^
well put
i'll give chavez for his accomplishments becuz that is a lot of fights
but he didnt always face the greatest competition and that happens sometimes you cant fight everyone
some fans, alot of mexicans in particular worship him like he is some sort of god or something and act like he's the goat fighter but he isnt
but oh thats opinions
chacevz jr hasnt really impressed me yet but he is young and will get better i would assume
what is he fighting at 140? he should stay in that division or go to super welter 154
cuz he would get massacred at 147 its too deep
he'd be better working on his skills and tryin to get a belt at one of those divisions before tryin to take on welter
if he waits mayve 3 or 4 years he may have a chance at welter
by then floyd will be retired, cotto becuz of his style will be damaged goods and the only person he would have to worry about is williams
btw alfonso gomez isnt that great of a fighter
he's ok but he's nowhere close to elite
so chavez should step up and fight him it would be good for both fighters
Yeah, I'm getting sick of Chavez Jnr on these PPV cards. He's fighting guys that are so much smaller than him. He needs to step it up or fight on ESPN undercards. Thanks Bob, but I'm done with JCC Jnr until he steps it up.
Is Chavez Jr. gonna KO 80 bums before taking on a legitmate opponent?
yep, that is what i've been saying for a long time now. Jr. is going to be 80-0 before he steps up the competition. not that it matters but if you check any previous relies to threads concerning Chavez Jr. you'll see that i've been saying this from the get go..................
like it or not, it's the truth...........
wait wait wait everyones talking about the taylor fight. but what baout the whitaker fight? WHY ARE PEOPLE SAYING HE WON THAT?
the people who argue against it claim whitaker was robbed, which clearly he was (of a victory)... but he was given a draw people so not even technically did chavez win that one

Julio Cesar Chavez is a BUM and that draw vs Pernell Whitaker is one of the most disgraceful robberies ever. Plus he lost to Taylor in 90.
It is very ignorant to say he was a bum. He beat a lot of good and very good fighters such as Mario Martinez, Roger Mayweather x2, Ruben Castillo, Rocky Lockridge, Juan Laporte, Edwin Rosario, Rafael Limon, Jose Luis Ramirez, Meldrick taylor (if u think he didnt win the first one then watch the second, and sadly meldrick's career after the first one), John Duplessis, Macho Camacho, Greg Haugen, and Tony Lopez. He was especially a beast at 130 and 135 and even without including his controversail win over Randall and tie with Whitaker he is still easily a hall of famer. He fought a lot more than other fighters but when it comes down to it he fought as many huge fights as any other superstar, except he even fought lesser fighters in between those bouts, If you think that made his career easier you are an idiot, and if tyou think he's a bum then you must think everyone outside or sugar ray robinson is at best a c level fighter.
I really think Chavez Jr. can hang with Williams, as someone said in here. He is very strong and sits on punches, especially the left to the body. Margarito was hurting williams to the body, i think in a year Chavez Jr takes him. Williams has no power, and Chavez is a better boxer than Margarito, so i dont think it would be a mismatch like people are pretending.
Agreed.. Chavez sr. was extremely overrated.. The guy went 89-0, all against bums, that is disgraceful. The record at face-value seems incredible, but the fact that he beat so many losers on his way there say a lot about his credibility. The guy was a fraud. His record suggests greatest of all time, and I'm glad that in many analysts books he's not even top ten, because they know what that fake ass record consists of.
You're an idiot. Like everyone else posting shit about JCC. You wouldnt know an ATG from your ass.
You are a fucken idiot! what was the age advantage for Delahoya ? by the way ODLH stepped up and fought Chavez not the other way around. JCC Chavez was way past his prime when he fought those guys anyways.
You call Delahoya an elite fighter when he lost to Sturm. If you are going to talk shit don't be biased.
fucking idiot...chavez was like 29 when he fought frankie randall, early 30s when he fought de la hoya, younger then de la hoya is now and de la hoya is still better then chavez....now we was well past it when he fought tszyu
no fighter who takes 5 punches too land 1 is a legend, bottom line, julio chavez was no better then yory boy campas
Wow so many ignorant ass kids in this Forum. Who here was alive and knew the sport of boxing when JCC was dominating everyone he fought up until he turned 40?
It doesn't matter if you were alive, if you've seen every fight of his it doesn't matter. He's an ATG who recieved many gifts from the judges ( and the ref.) Taylor did respond to Steele, and he got up at the count of 5 with two seconds left, and the figh was stopped. And he got totaly outboxed by Sweet Pea, but got the draw...
Great fighter, but agreat fighter who is overrated. And don't bring up the age shit, thats what people do when they can't figure out how to respond to an intelligent.
These ignorat ass kids have probably seen more of his fights than you have.
