I mean, granted the stoppage was definetly quick.
BUT, the shots Marquez was throwing were WEAK and even less then PITTER PATTER shots.
And even when he slipped a bit on the canvas he was NOT on steady legs and wobbled back to the ropes.
And then he slid down the ropes like his legs werent there.
Im 99% sure Vazquez would have landed another BOMB within 10-15 seconds, and Marquez would have maybe gotten up cause hes got a lot of heart, but would have wobbled around and the fight would have certainly been stopped.
And since im SOOOOO sure that would have happend, or something even worse, why risk it ACTUALLY happening and having Marquez Hurt. Its senseless and the REF made a good call IMO.
I thought it was a good stoppage, maybe a couple seconds early but nothing that should be considered too controversial. Vazquez landed about 10 clean head shots and Marquez only threw a couple punches back and was not really protecting himself. And I wanted Marquez to win, so...
Just saw the fight.. The stoppage was 50-50 I guess it was OK.. he also could have let things go on.. vasquaez was not connecting too much in those flurries and I am not so sure he could have kept it up much longer....
Cracking fight either way ....
Good fight. Good stoppage to me.. Give or take an extra 20 seconds, and it would have been over anyway. I say, why risk an extra 20 seconds worth of damage with a puncher like Vazquez.
I think those complaining about the stoppage are doing so because it brought an end to a fantastic fight. Vasquez seemed to be ready to close the show. I know I was gutted when the fight ended, but realize that it was probably the RIGHT decision.

It wasn't a bad stoppage but I would have liked to see it go on for a little bit longer. What a fight tho and I can't wait to see Part III,It has to happen!:boxing:

i agree, this way he lives to fight another day because marquez was a sitting duck. there is no reason to risk permanent injury, all machoness aside, the overall health of the fighter is paramount. the fact of the matter is marquez was in a position to receive a lot more punishment and he wasn't looking like he would be able to fend off the attack, but! with this ending the way it did, it makes for the rubber match which both guys want to do ( thanks guys ) and we get to see another badass fight again, and both guys give a 100% to win.
ps. more fighters now a days need to take a page out of vazquez and marquez's book, both these guys are not only masters at their craft, they are crowd pleasing, something a lot of fighters need to adapt to, crowd pleasing.
i heard marquez say after like 2minutes of the stoppage "ya la pararon??(did they stop the fight??)", i may have heard wrong ut thats when it really hit me he was completely out.....though at the moment of the stoppage i actually was concerned that the mexican referee may have allowed it to continue because mexican boxing is very brutal, but he did the right choice....
Was this stoppage a little premature? Maybe; but was it the right call? I think so, and judging by Marquez's reactions when the fight was stopped( he didn't seem to complain or was in his right mind to). It was the right call.
Let's not pretend here; this was a brutal fight for both fighters and at the pace they were going, it's a good thing that it was stopped sooner rather than later...
I think the stoppage came at an odd time. Most stoppages come when a fighter is either clearly out on his feet, not throwing punches, not defending himself, or he has just suffered multiple hard blows. None of that was happening in this fight when it was stopped. Sure, Vazquez had Marquez hurt and Israel was landing hard punches, but at the time the fight was stopped Vazquez landed a hard right, then Marquez covered up and stepped back, and then the referee (i forget his name already) stepped in and stopped it.
I'm not really complaining though (it was still a great fight and probably FOTY to this point), I just think the stoppage came at an odd time and the ref probably should have given marquez more of a chance.

When you say it that way Kball your probably right. It wasn't worth the risk at the moment because I think Vasquez would have eventually put Marquez down. When you watch right before the stoppage you see Marquez back up on wobbly feet and the look in his face was like he was out of it and thats probably why the ref stopped it. At first I was mad because it ended early like the first fight and the action was only getting better, but now there will probably be a third fight and after this fight anything can happen.

Lukin back at it,it was a good stopage,i was just angry watching it live,i was so caught up in the fight i didnt want it to be stoped
It was a good stoppage. It seemed early, but if he let it go on 4 more punches it would have been brutal. His legs were done, and his expression bascially said it all.
Vazquez, one of the hardest punchers p4p in the sport, would have nailed dhim about 3-4 clean bombs.
I am not complaining about stoppage either, nor do I see many people doing it.
good. cause i think controversy is unecssary here.
this WAS the definitive ending people wanted
