Throughout the years there have been numerous remarkable and memorable trilogies between rival fighters. Whether it was the classics like Zale/Graziano, or Ross/McLarnin, to the unforgettables like Ali/Frazier, and Leonard/Duran, to something more recent like Barrera/Morales. So with that said, what would be your pick for greatest trilogy of all time, and why? And if anybody here says Gatti/Ward I will curse death on their first born.
My pick would have to go to Barrera/Morales. Ali/Frazier would be a very close second, but the brutality and courage displayed by Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales for the 36 rounds they fought. Their three fights had everything a fight fan could want to see in a fight, brutal bodyshots, devestating headshots, knockdowns, and controversial decisions. Talk about two guys who were tailor made for each other style wise, their hatred for each other outside the ring transcended into utter beauty in the ring.
If ever an argument could be made that brutality could be beautiful, one would be remisced not to take note of Barrera/Morales.
barrera vs morales in my opinion is the greatest trilogy.
3 fights fought at 3 different weight classes (i dont think this has ever happened before in the history of boxing), the rivalry they had, the hatred and animosity they have for one another as they clearly dislike one another, 3 fights fought for world titles, this trilogy had it all. there first fight was brutal and is a classic fight, there second one was a very good fight and i think it does not get that much credit because of there first fight, it was a boxing match in the first half of the fight and then they both started opening up from round 6 onwards, and there 3rd and final fight had a bit of both the 1st and 2nd fight and was another great fight. all 3 fights were competitive fights and if im honest i think the contraversial decisions for the first 2 fights actually added more spice to this trilogy as going into the third fight, people thought 1-1 was a fair score, but alot of people feel both fighters got the wrong decisions for there wins.
It's hard to rank Zale-Graziano since only one fight is filmed in full (to my knowledge).
Ali-Frazier was more significant than Bowe-Holyfield, Ali was a worldwide celebrity and the first fight had larger overtones and two fights were classics, but I actually liked Bowe-Holyfield better since ALL 3 fights were very good. The 2nd Ali-Frazier fight was dull.
Barrera-Morales is another great one.
Gatti-Ward is overrated. There was one great fight, an OK one, and a pretty good one. It was very one-sided for a supposed great trilogy, Gatti schooled Ward twice and won 80% of the rounds. People seem to be brainwashed by HBO and the media.
How could you guys forget about Tarver vs. Jones? Lol.
Fuck, I did forget that one, and I don't know how. Jones-Tarver I was one of the first matches I watched. :pat:
Bowe- Holyfield IMO is by far the best. I don't see how some of you could rank Ali- Fraiser above it. The three Bowe- Holyfield bouts were all amazing from start to finish. The Ali Fraizer fights as good as they were had plenty of so so moments. Granted I didn't watch them live back then but seeing them now they just don't compare IMO. Good trilogy don't get me wrong but the Bowe- Holyfield bouts are in another league.
Ali's fights from Frazier III onward were pretty much a disgrace and a formality of keeping him as figuerehead champion. Frazier lost to Foreman again and retired.
Even though both fighters were 'diminished' they were still two of the best fighters in the world and the third fight is a classic in my opinion!
I don't really agree. It was a sloppy fight between passed their best fighters.
The 2nd fight was not that good at all, the 3rd fight was pretty good but both fighters were diminished quite alot, only the 1st was was truly great IMO.

Ali v Frazier.
They brought the best out of each other, it's as simple as that!

Even if it was, I didn't think it was that cool. Bowe got destroyed physically, and Golota got destroyed mentally, leaving us with two very unsatisfying results.
yeah very true, it's a shame Golota may have been one of the most talented fighters to every grace the heavyweight division, but he never got a chance to hold any title. He wrecked Bowe twice, he deserved the win against Byrd, and he was outright screwed against Ruiz.
Haha, I've never seen a bump 13 minutes after the previous post, especially when both posts are from the same person.
But it is true, that this could use some more discussion.
I just want a lot of opinions and discussion. I guess the board is just not that active right now but I'm wanting to get a shitload of feedback and input. There were so many great trilogies over the years, for every one I mentioned there's at least 3 others.
