margarito is all about action and excitement so of course he holds the record for most punches. he aint no coward afraid to get hit. he is always looking for the knockout. If he wanted to be that exciting he should have knocked him out. Marg is boring b/c he didn't knock him out, after all, if you threw the most punches you would think you would have a lot of KOs.

Clottey's hand was NOT broken. It was something else that was less dramatic, cant remember the details. and he said it himself in an interview. Didnt Margarito screw up his ankle or somethin? I never heard that he hurt his right hand though.

That's why the fight with Williams had to be exciting. It was a given these two would throw at least 1000 punches between them.

Margarito's right hand was also hurt in that fight, in fact he had some kind of minor surgery on it afterwards, so he probably wasn't punching as hard as he usually does and instead tried to make up for it with volume. It didn't hurt that Clottey wasnt throwing back at him at all for parts of the fight.

Margarito always throws a ton of punches. He just couldnt get off like he wanted to against Williams because of how tall he is, how quick his hands are, and his boxing style that forces you to play D alot more then normal. The Clottey fight was a bit of a fluke. After the 4th round when Clottey hurt himself, he basically was Zab Judah vs Cotto. All he did was really cover up and Margarito threw non stop punches.

Most Punches thrown in a Welterweight fight?!?! I mean, i knew he threw a lot of punches against Clottey, but over 1500 punches in 12 rounds is rediculous!!! I didnt even realized he threw that often in that fight. That is actually the record for any fight at any weight class. It was 16xx or something like that... you can check the boxrec.com encyclopedia under 2005 bouts or whenever they fought, and it tells exactly how many were thrown. It just seems unbelievable to me that he didn't knock him out, because he had to be landing a fair few punches if he threw that many, and Margarito hits pretty hard it seems like so... I guess Clottey is a damn tough kid.
