FightNews has been informed that promoters Don King and Dennis Rappaport have signed the contracts for WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev to defend his title against #1 WBC and mandatory challenger Samuel Peter on October 6th at The Garden. The highly anticipated Maskaev-Peter showdown will be televised on a premium network.
I dont understand why everyone seems to thinks its a sure thing that peter will win, remember at heavyweight anything can happen at any given time. I think Maskaev has more than a slim chance and shouldnt be written off. Its when a fighter is totally written off he is at his most dangerous at times
Finally, they've ended this "pissing match:peeright: " and can now start promoting and hyping this fight up. I'm looking forward to this fight and hope both fighters come in, in 'tip top' shape and give us an entertaining fight..
Glad to see Maskaev has finally accepted his demise. You can only cheat death for so long, Oleg. The fact that he will have officially "held" and I do mean HELD the title a year by the time he gets KO'd is just sad. Worst division ever.
and he whooped your boy rahman twice,,,LOL
I'm gonna go on a limb here and say Maskaev beats Peter!
Just a stupid intuition.
I can clearly see Maskaev being able to get a UD. His skills are VERY underrated.
On the other hand, Peter's win over Toney made him very overrated.. I mean, he looked incredible that night, but that's just not enough to solidify him in my book
P.S. - Don't beg me to make any bets as I want to see what shape the fighters are in.... I'm sure I'll have plenty of options to bet
Peter looked good against Toney but he was fighting knowing that Toney can't do shit to him. When he's fighting someone who can do damage, I'll bet he won't look as good. I still think he wins but Maskaev does have a chance to win the fight if he's careful and if they get a ref who will watch Peter's bullshit.

Peter deserves the shot but he won't be a champ for long. Unless his chickenshit managers back out, he'll be fighting Vitali next. If Vitali is 75% of the fighter he used to be, he'll mop the ring with Peter.
i dont agree with mop the ring, i think sam can put up a good fight against vitali, hes a good fighter and hes getting better, if he can take maskaevs belt, then fight wlad and win, hes accomplished alot
im glad this has happened, finally peter gets the shot he deserves, he has worked hard to get where he is and progressed so much since his loss to wladimir, if he beats maskaev which i think he will, i would love to see him get revenge and knock wlad out and i think he can!

Its only anticipated because of all the BS they put Peter through
