Thanks for owning yourself! You just compared 1 guy who started his career at 130 and the other at 140 to Nunn and McCallum. :owned: :lol1:
McCallum & Nunn > Delahoya & Tito
Barkley > Johnson
as public thing is that DHL and Tito is more famous then any of Jame Toeny fighter expect for maybe Holyfield he is famous for the the guy who mike Tyson bite his ears :D
I choose Jame Toney it impressive that he got real tough competition more that B-Hops.
one Micheal Nunn and Jirove as well as Holyfield. But because Jame Toney got a big mouth and doesnt use it well his mind he got fucked up.
many of B-Hop oppoenet are smaller size than him which looks impressive on paper
Evil Saint: If you're going to tell people to keep facts staright, might want to recall that Barkley was at 168 for Barkley's belt there (IBF, won by KO2 against Darrin Van Horn). Otherwise, good post. ;)
The fact that Toney was able to stay competitive with a guy like Peter speaks wonders imo. That doesnt even count in the fact that he should have won the first fight.
Anyways this is probably one of the reasons why Im not a fan of Hopkins. When I see Hopkins, I see a guy who does everything he can do to win. He works his ass off in camp, and he always stays in peak condition. He also has made some very smart business decisions in his career. He stayed at Middleweight when the division was average, and he piled up 20 defenses. He fought big names like Tito and Oscar who were blown up Welterweights. Granted he took a chance fighting Taylor, but he lost.
Then he decided to move up to 175 when the division was in shambles. Tarver had just finished doing the Rocky movie, and he had already looked bad in the third Jones fight. After that fight he finally fights Wright except its at 170, a weight Hopkins should have been all along, and a weight Wright has no business being in.
Then theres Toney. He is notorious for poor training habits, and he has all the talent in the world. He was forced to take chances because of those problems, and he rarely gave himself the best chance to win. This is the main reason why Hopkins will be remembered as a legend and Toney will probably be forgotten. Being a Toney fan this bothers me, but he has nobody to blame but himself.
So in the end Hopkins will have a better legacy, but its Toney who I think was more talented, and beat the better fighters.
freddie roach trained everybody
oscar
hopkins
wlad
tyson
pac
and says toney is the best fighter hes ever saw
How was Toney better at 160? Yes, the Nunn and McCallum fights were impressive, but there's no Tiberi on Hopkins resume. Hopkins will inevitably have the better legacy because he was a professional all the time and not just most of it.
Honestly, Hopkins, no querstion to me. Fought a lot of fighters, in more meaningful fights, was a WORLD champion, not just a soup titlist. He had more longevity, and had better wins and consistency. Overall, HOPKINS, without question.
James Toney had 9 title defenses at 160, Toney's big wins at middleweight is better then Hopkins 20 title defenses wins at the middleweight division.
Toney is a 4 divison champ with 80 career fights, Toney's legacy is def better in my opinion.
hes a 3 division champion, with 6 defenses at 160 in a title reign where the best guys he beat were nunn, mccallum, and barkley compared to hopkins' de la hoya, trinidad, and glen johnson.
get ur facts straight, junior.
Toney's resume at 160 > Hopkins resume at 160
Forrest beat Mosley twice and Mayorga beat Forrest twice, oh lets see I guess Mayorga is better then both Mosley and Forrest combined.
BTW Jones didn't face the best Toney or the best Hopkins.
you got me there. but still HOPKINS > TONEY
b-hop
and of course his legacy will look better because he fought bigger names
what fucked toney up was his lack of focus and not always being in shape
as far as overall boxing skills in their primes i'd take toney
but b-hop is a modern boxing legend and most people will see his legacy greater than toney's
James Toney had 9 title defenses at 160, Toney's big wins at middleweight is better then Hopkins 20 title defenses wins at the middleweight division.
Toney is a 4 divison champ with 80 career fights, Toney's legacy is def better in my opinion.
you are just a b hop hater. he got dominated for 12 round against jones !!! hopkins made a fight of it . and he beat th then 2* ranked pound for pound fighter in tito who Ko'd william joppy before that. hopkins made these contenders look like chumps. hopkins beat tarver who was 1 at LHW he also beat glen johnson he stopped him.!!
Why is he buying supplements anyways like Ripped Fuel. Shit sounds like something that would have steroids in it, if you want a great body you have to work for it not take all those bs over the counter shit.
lol thats funny
have to give edge to hopkins, although i believe toney would beat bernard in a fight....but thats a different question.
would have been a hell of a fight at 190lbs in 2003 or 2004.
Give me proof that he doesn't roid up other then typing out all that. For all I could know, you could be a rabid-fan trying to protect the legacy of his.

Better yet, how about you prove to me he didn't test positive because of the Androstenediol compound that used to be a feature in Ripped Fuel?

He has something in common with Roy Jone Jr
Roy tested positive for Androstenediol which was a feature of the Over The Counter ripped fuel at one point in time. Roy admitted to using ripped fuel. He tested again, and came out clean negative.
Toney tested positive for Nandrolone (prescribed only anabolic steroid), admitted to using it......then said he was sorry. Tested again, and came out dirty positive.
I don't think you can compare the two.
