Definitely a rematch I'd like to see but it ain't happenin', RJJ talked waaaay too much sh*t b4 he got knocked off his throne. I remember when they asked Roy about the rematch, he demanded like 60% or 70% of the purse (win or lose) just cuz he got a decision against Hop like 10yrs ago. Since that defeat, Ex went on to become a champ (of 2 divisions) & defended his title like 20 times. Now that Roy ain't sh*t & the rolls are basically reversed u think RJJ even deserves one?? It's a dream fight but so is Ray Leonard vs B-Hop (Not gon happen). Now can u Dig Dat?!?:boxing:
Inaccurate statement. Talks about a rematch in 2001 were killed because Hopkins over estimated his value back then. Roy was the Light Heavy champ & was P4P 1 back then. Hopkins had just won the middle weight tournament & defeated Tito. That was his biggest win in his career at that time. So if you were in Roy's position being a current champ, P4P #1, & already have a W against the guy, would you give him a 50/50 split? I highly doubt.
10 years late,
If we were 30 years ago, Hopkins, Jones and Toney would have fought each other 10 times combined or so.
Damn modern boxing for this waste
The rematch between these two has been talked about for years but there's a reason this fight hasn't taken place. Hops knows that stylistically Roy is a bad matchup for him. Even though Jones isn't the same fighter he used to be he's retained about 80-85% of his hand speed which is a helluva lot faster than the most of the elite boxers today. His foot speed has slowed down much more but with that matchup Hopkins could get beat to the punch every single time. That's what happened in the first fight. He made Hopkins very gun shy because of the speed difference & I can see the same kind of tactical battle. This is the fight where you'd see Hopkins looking like a 42 year old because Roy has the speed to expose that.
couldnt of said it better myself.
i had a solid opinion of "no" before i started reading other responses to this thread, and now i say if it will draw interest to fans.... "maybe"
it seems like, and even though i like both fighters, this would be boxing taking yet another, small step, backwards
i'm shocked that almost half thinks RJ would win... Nard is beating top P4P guys(winky), hangin tough with young undfeated fighters(taylor) and beating the crap of the undisputed light heaveywight champ(tarver, a guy that KTFO RJ)... what has RJ been doing? getting put into a coma by johnson?
Tarver looked horrible that night, very flat(possibly it was b/c of the weight he had to work off from the Rocky movie). Winky was way outta his league and weight when he fought Bernard. RJJ will when this, they both had roughly the same amount of experience the 1st time they fought and Nard lost every single round but, they were VERY close rounds. RJJ will not get invovled w/ Nards clinching , heabutting, and w/e else he does that ppl don't like and will always triumph over him.

i voted for hopkins. i think at this point he is a much different (better IMO) than he was when he fought jones back in the day, and jones is different too (worse IMO). i love both these guys but if this fight goes down im gonna have to go with hopkins by UD. but u never know with roy jones. he's still got speed and some tricks up his sleeves. i would love to see this one, and the winner fights calzaghe........... ??
Hard to say - Based on Jones' performance against Hanshaw (showed excellent stamina and workrate), I suspect he would've beaten the Winky who fought on Saturday night as well.
it's crazy how much respect Hops and Jones have for each other. They both seem to hedge when it comes to fighting each other but I think, at this stage, Jones wants this fight a little more. His comment about "fighting everyone except Bernard" speaks volumes. I think if they can work out a fair deal, not the 62-37 Hops offered the last time, it can happen. Either way, Roy will have to take the short end of the stick. I don't know if his pride will allow him that but 55-45 ain't too bad...

Hopkins easy. Jones won the first time against an incredibly inexperienced Hopkins, who didn't know all the tricks that he does now. He didn't use any rough tactics or anything, he merely tried to box with Jones, which is about the worst possible strategy. That fight was won because Jones's atheleticism outclassed Hopkins athleticism (because that is the kind of fight Hopkins tried to fight). This fight would be Hopkins ring experience against Jones's athleticism, because Jones never needed to come up with different ways to win against good competition. He always beat people because he was faster than them, and now that he can't do that anymore, he wins close fights against upstart fighters who aren't even in the top 10 of their division. Hopkins is still winning fights against the world's best in the same way that he always did.
Yes, basically my feeling as well..
well the poll is dead even now and i just picked jones by UD or a late stoppage, just because you never know but he may throw in a quick combination (probably off the ropes again, that is the way this fight if it happens will go because hopkins would pressure it and it could be interesting)
This is a hard fight to pick. If I was forced to make a pick, I got RJJ by dec. Nard doesn't have KO power and even at this stage RJJ is still faster. RJJ is bigger. Nard will have use his rough house tactics and mental game for him to win
B-Hop is not only destroying Jones worse than he did Tarver but Jones is going to suffer his 3rd KO unless he fights the way he did in Jones-Tarver 3. After James Toney, Roy has fought shit competition until he met Tarver and got exposed. Aging or not, if he wasnt ranked the top p4p fighter at one point, I would never even talk about this guy. Jones aint beating any top ranked fighter today. none.
