after this fight, hopkins has lost my respect i had for him, i thought he was a true pro but after his actions at the weigh in and the head but n dirty tactics in the fight, i got no love or respect for him no more. Professional my ass...
yeah bro...I feel the same way...Hopkins used to be the man before he became a part of "Golden Girl" Promotions...Now all he does is talk like he's the smartest man alive...Which he's not...and fights dirty...
He will never be the best in my opinion until he whips Roy or Taylor...and he will never be able to beat Roy..And he will never step into the ring again against Taylor.
I had that fight a draw....but it could have went either way...but no way in hell that fight was 117-111 or 116-112...those judges should be fired....I think for the way some of these fights are being score....They should go back to the old 15 round championship fights...To take the scores out of the hands of the judges...
Believe it or not...But i think Hopkins get's the benefit of a doubt...because of his age...I think that the old bastards judging the fight are so amazed by what he's doing...that they are clouded when it comes to judging the other fighter in ring performance ..Most of Bernard shots hit Winky's gloves...and Bernard ran all night long....I better not hear anyone ever again talk about Floyd running...Because Mayweather stayed in front of DLH alot more than Hopkins did with Wright...and Floyd was the much smaller guy...Hopkins is a true light HW who starved himself for a decade to beat up on little men...
Why because Floyds a true champion and Hopkins a chumpion.
that certainly was not a robbery. close fight, could have went either way. Hopkins seemed to step it up the last couple rounds.
I agree it wasn't a robbery. I mean i didn't agree with some of the judges score cards, but it was a close fight and in the end I just felt Bernard did just enough to win the decision.
winky had the courage to fight after what hopkins did to his eye. winky fought like a warrior and in my opinnion just won the fight, if not it was a draw. complete fuckin robbery.
Don't start this shit. I thought the judges score cards were off but Hops def. won the fight. There was NO ROBBERY!!!
Winky should have used his head more, since the referee didn't deduce any points. i really don't know why he didn't fight dirty. I would like too know if that result would have change if they fought in middleweigght
with this fight hopkins separated himself from winky, he made the clear distinction between a boxer and a fighter. hopkins fought while winky was trying to box. hopkins used his whole body to control winky and keep winky off balance ( which by the way winky's balance was very poor tonight).
hopkins made it a rough and tough fight like he always does, he makes it hard to get any real clean shots, he takes away his opponents confidence and takes the steam out of them, hopkins had winky frustrated the whole fight.
everyone thinks that hopkins was using his head for fouls, he was using his head like you're supposed to, place it where it can't get hit, and that was in and near winkys head, as well as using his head to make winky move his head around on the inside, some call it dirty, others call it strategic and smart. another thing when you're fighting on the inside and one of the safest places is to put your head in your opponents chest under his chin which is something hopkins was doing, which is legal. in doing so it allows you to make your opponent move his head around pushing him back taking his balance away at the same time taking ground and making your opponents punches has less effectiveness because it has disturbed his balance. hopkins did all that.
and although winky did say that he thought he won the fight, he didn't complain and didn't fuss about the decision. he said he was going back down in weight and fight there, either at 160 or 154 again, if winky thought that he really won the fight he would've put up another fuss like he did against taylor. he was gracious in defeat and was very professional and business like about it talking about other fight options. i thought winky had his moments and i thought he made a good account of himself, but the fight as a whole i saw winky get beaten up more than he did to hopkins. was it a total domination? and was it a one sided fight? no, but i think it was clear that hopkins beat up wright enough to win the fight. hopkins finished like a champ and finsihed strong, sad to say winky faded. i think the weight and hopkins style drained him.
this fight was hard for me to watch, it was like watching your brother fight your cousin. i like both.........................
fighting isnt supposed to be pretty.
That was some real dirty shit, he kept trying to head but and fight dirty.. I am no fan of either fighter but I felt Winky deserved this. That was some straight up bullshit!!
as always i agree.....youre one of the good guys...
of course he was robbed :S
No bullshit, Hopkins won the fight. You may not like his style, but that doesn't mean it's bullshit that he won.
i was watching it and seeing that hopkins riight hand wich i thought would be the only thing not dirty to counterpunch winky was not landing at all... winky slipped it, avoided it, blocked it and came win a jab and a straight left, which gave him a lot of rounds, then it was just a matter of not letting bernard land anything significant as he did btw... clear wipe out... and don't forget that fckn head of bernard... what a fckn robery!! i knew this would happen
The Last Three Rounds Hopkins Sepped Up The Pace And Winky Didnit.. I Never Saw Winky Look That Sloppy .. It Was A Close Dirty Fight But Hopkins Landed Better Shots....i Didnt Think Hopkins Could Do It But He Beat The P4p #1 Fighter In My Book..
I am gonna watch this fight again tomorrow when im not bussing it and can get a better picture then what I got from a internet live feed.. Then I'll make my mind completely up but from what I saw today.. it just reminded me even more of why I dont like Bernard and maybe I might not have scored a round right but I clearly had Winky winning 6 rounds.. and thats what I know.
I like Bernard, and I even agree with you. I had it a draw! Winky deserves his name mentioned with all the great fighters of this time period.
Smarten UP!
That was some real dirty shit, he kept trying to head but and fight dirty.. I am no fan of either fighter but I felt Winky deserved this. That was some straight up bullshit!!
Winky was leading in alot and saw no intentional HB's from Bhop. Did Bhop HB Tarver? We know there was a HB in WW.JT...whos HB'ing I wonder.
I had the cards a little closer...8-4...but cleary Bhop winning.
dirty fight, hugging like he was his momma
I still can't understand the score
Winky wasnt robbed.. Hopkins won the fight... sure not in exciting fashion, but did what it took to win.

Hopkins Holds His Way To Victory In Possibly The Worst PPV Fight In History With Even Worse Scores
Bernard Hopkins (now 48-4-1, 32 KO's) managed to escape a warning for holding nearly every round to win a oddly wide unanimous decision that looked to have been a draw at best. From their first press conference, we knew what we were going to get. A lackluster fight consisting of more holding and warnings than actual exchanges. That's exactly what ensued. This fight had more holding than a UFC match, and Evander Holyfield's PPV with Lou Savarese had 10 times more action. Even Mayweather vs. DeLaHoya was more entertaining.
In round 1, Wright staggered Hopkins with the right hand.
In round 2, the holding began.
In round 3, a headbutt opened up a cut on Wrights left eye. A low blow followed from Hopkins at the end of the round.
In round 4, Winky landed a big left on Hopkins to win the round.
In round 5, clinching from Hopkins while Wright was trying to work.
In round 7, the booing began as the two fighters hugged in the center of the ring.
In round 8, referee Robert Byrd said he was 1 warning away from deducting a point from Hopkins for holding.
In round 9, more warnings from Byrd followed.
In round 10, more booing ensued, followed by more holding.
In round 11, more holding. Commentators asked themselves "Who's winning?".
In round 12, Hopkins managed to finally give a little more than 10% to win a round decisively, but with more holding.
Final scores were lopsidedly towards Hopkins in an apparently even fight at 116-112, 117-111 and 117-111. Two judges only gave Wright 3 rounds in a fight Pound4Pound scored 114-114, a draw.
Was the fight really that bad? Mayweather-DLH was better?
I thought De La Hoya v Mayweather was better.
Robbed? I don't think so. Winky didn't do enough to win the fight. Did he lose 117-111? I don't think so. But my definition of robbed is what happened to Roy Jones in the 88 Olympics. What happened to Pea against Chavez. I thought the fight was closer then what the judges saw it tonight, but Hopkins landed the more effective shots. And in a clinch fest like this, thats what gets you the nod in my mind.

Yeah he just didn't belong at that weight. You could see how much harder the shots Nard was landing were, it wasn't really that close.
I thought Wink was busy enough to keep the fight close, but he clearly lost. All I know is I expected this fight to suck balls and go the distance: I sadly pat myself on the back for that.
I picked Wink to win a clear cut decision but I was wrong.
