I say Steward but how come no Alton Merkerson ill give him some props but the best is Steward followed by Roach
hE gETS nO pROPS fROM mE bUT mAYWEATHER sR, IS NOWHERE IN ANY WAY , SHAPE OR fORM AS gOOD AS nACHO bERISTEIN, fREDDIE rOACH aS wELL, tHE oNLY gUY COMPARABLE IS eMMANUEL sTEWART
Yoel Judah by far...
Yoel Judah!!!. Its a tie between Roach and Emmanuel for me. I think Emmanuel has THE best advice during the fights but can sometimes be too calm. I also think Roach's training and concepts outside of the ring are the best. He always has his fighters prepared for war.
Teddy, despite being as overrated as any trainer can possibly be, said the right things to Moorer in the first Holyfield fight and the Foreman fight. It's just that Moorer could be such a stubborn lazy-ass and did things his own way, and it really hurt him against Foreman.
HBO Legendary Nights can fool people into believing that Teddy somehow "willed" Moorer to victory. After seeing the fight in full, I saw how damn lazy Moorer was even after Teddy was begging him to fight harder. Even Jim Lampley said "well, Moorer is gonna get another scorching from Teddy Atlas after this round".
I actually used to more or less like Teddy, but after watching and learning more about him, and his fighters, I now see what an overrated trainer and a huge hypocrite he is.
It is sad to see how much potential Moorer had but like you stated, he is lazy as hell, like James Toney, but Teddy put in a great effort with a uneffortless fighter, Thats why Tua knocked out Moorer in under 20 seconds, he doesnt pay attention and gets hit for putting no attention
I actually liked Teddys job with Moorer but many people also felt like you did,

i alsoLove the way he did that inspiring tough speeches to Moorer to help him and will Moorer to victory over Holyfield
I agree, that was some of the best corner work I had ever heard.
It is hard to say who was the best but I guess Steward certainly deserves some consideration.
You were right to not put Teddy Atlas in there.
He is quite possibly the most overrated trainer in boxing history.
His claim to fame is allegedly "inspiring" and "willing" Moorer to victory over a lethargic Holyfield (possibly suffering from the effects of HGH), when in reality if you watch the fight, Moorer slept-walk thru the rounds right after Teddy's speeches. Moorer got dropped early in the fight and was cautious after that 2nd round KD.
Moorer fought with little passion even after Atlas was begging him to fight harder. He fought with more passion BEFORE and AFTER working with Atlas.
Moorer could be one lazy fighter.I actually liked Teddys job with Moorer but many people also felt like you did,
IIm gonna be honest, i dont know any of the trainers you wisely mentioned, Im too young at 23 but i do know Teddy Atlas and Cus.See, I had you pegged from the get-go when I said your poll was a reflection of your youth. I was 23 once; unfortunately, it only lasted 365 days...
Im tring to put in modern trainers, I did mention Teddy Atlas was a mistake to not put in without anybody reminding me and please, nobody mention Lou Duva, he is awful senile fart

Fair enough, it's your poll and your prerogative to include (or exclude) whomever you want. Being an old-timer myself (relatively speaking, of course), I just wanted to give the old-timers a well-deserved plug.
On an unrelated note, super avatar (yours), by the way...

I Love the job that Teddy did with Tyson until Tyson got personal with Teddys family and i alsoLove the way he did that inspiring tough speeches to Moorer to help him and will Moorer to victory over Holyfield
Given the poll options, I voted for Manny Steward mainly on the strength of his noteriety, as I'm less of an authority on trainers than I am on boxers, or for that matter, boxing.
That said, their are seven other notable trainers who merit honorable mention. The conspicuous absence of their names from the poll is probabably more a reflection of the thread-starter's youth than anything else.
Cus D'Amato of Floyd Patterson/Jose Torres fame.
Teddy Atlas (Mike Tyson)
Kevin Rooney (Mike Tyson)
Yancey "Yank" Durham (Joe Frazier)
Eddie Futch trained Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick, four of the five men to defeat Muhammad Ali.
Angelo Dundee (Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard) need I say more?
Ray Arcel (the "Methuselah" of trainers), trained two of the greatest lightweight champions in boxing history - Benny Leonard and Roberto Duran - 60 years apart!
Futch was one of my favorites. Not only a great trainer, but he had a good heart too and did the right thing in Manila.
Neither Atlas nor Rooney were very good pro trainers. Funny thing is, among Tyson's former trainers, the only who gets bashed the most, Aaron "Condom on the Eye" Snowell, actually was the best pro trainer of those 3.

I don't really rate mcgirt, he's on one of the worst losing streaks in history.
His prized fighters have all lost their last bout with him Gatti, Tarver, and Brewster, People still think of him him as the best trainer today, theyre probably drunk. Thats why his name is in their

whats the point nobody would vote for them, only Enzo, but Enzo only really trains his son
I couldve and taken out Roger Mayweather from this list, cause he does not do nothing for Floyd as a trainer, He doesnt teach Floyd speed or anything Floyd dont know, he also doesnt train anyone either than Floyd, I fukked up by not putting Enzo over Roger cause Enzo at least brought Joe up as a boy to a boxing undefeated B+ fighter today,Enzo really did train Joe and Roger only left of from what Floyd Sr ended, Roger is just a lame duck trainer who trains nobody but Floyd

There are several european trainers who could be on that list, uli wegner, fritz sidunek, brendan ingle and enzo calzaghe.

Emmanual Stewart gets my vote based on his track record & his results, He Trains CHAMPIONS!!! Buddy McGirt gits @nd, not because of who he's trained & where they wound up, but how he trains them (see what he did for Brewster...only a Real trainer looks out like that). Honourable mention goes to both Freddie Roach & Teddy Atlas. Now can u Dig Dat?!?:boxing:
what you suppose Enzo Calzaghe belongs in this list, or Trinidad Sr. Hell Nah, Nacho Beristein is the best one and he is a Mexican trainer, if it aint him its Emmanuel Stewart

Why are all of the listed trainers american? anyway, steward is the best out of this lot.
