Cotto: HBO's new posterboy?

Maybe he's not the BEST welterwieight in the world. BUT, he's a guy with a big following and he fights his ass off. He's humble, but is a beast in the ring. What's not to like about the guy. I agree with thoughs who said it's not EXACTLY about winning with him. As long as he entertains the way he has been. He'll always be a bigger draw than Mayweather. Think about it like this.. Cotto can't speak English (not fluently anyway), and he gets MSG packed two years in a row, and beats both opponents. Before De La Hoya, this was Mayweathers attendance records fo his fights (I exclude The DLH fight, because reasonable people would assume it had a lot to do with DLH, not all, but a lot..) Judah - 15,000 or so.. Mitchell - 7,000 or so.. Gatti - 13,000 or so.. (It WAS sold out, I'll give him that) Bruseles - 4,000 plus.. Corley - 6,000 or so.. Added up, that's around, 45,000 in total. In Cotto's TWO MSG performances from the last two years, he's gotten aroudnd 20,000 each year (give or take.) That's around 40,000 in just two fights. Compared two the 45,000 in FIVE fights for Mayweather. he deserves to be the poster boy right now. Maybe Arum gives Cotto soft fights, that's not Cotto's problem. I believe COTTO himself would fight anyone. Lose to some of them, but he's make it way more entertainig than a Mayweather win. (And I'm not REALLY a Mayweather hater, I actually like how he puts on clinics, it's just not the kind of fight you write home about. Cotto fights, tend to be closer to that thought-process.) Half the people in NY don't speak English. That's statistics, nt hyperbole.

no dickrider u misunderstood my point i wasnt tryin to critisize cotto i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on that situation cuz i only heard a few things about it and im sure there was more to it and as far as the domestic violence with floyd and his girl she admitted to lying about floyd hitting her and she admitted she was the one who hit him but only God and they know what really happened Or how about the fact that PBF is a degenerate gambler and in time he will be the michale vick of boxing when he gets caught gambling himself out of debt.

Did anyone even watch the last dlh fight? He fought like crap throwing the weakest looking flurries at floyd mayweather... Oscar's only in this game for the money, and he would run against Cotto. He would be too afraid to get hit by cotto, so yeah this fight would be hilarious to watch DLH run!!! It would probably end up cotto ud because of Oscar running like he did against trinidad. Oscar vs Cotto is the best fight that could be made right now for both imho... Cotto would get that big win or Oscar could be a greedy rich prick basksin in the glory of taking out the young gun

The same Cotto who fought on a competing PPV the night HBO distributed the Tarver-Hopkins fight? The same Cotto who fought Urkal on Showtime? He doesn't exactly scream HBO... Yes, that indeed happened. But I think HBO realized that it was a mistake. Arum had that date separated for Cotto to fight in MSG the night before the puertorican parade. Along comes Tarver/Hopkins and HBO decided to go with them. Then Cotto/Quintana went to showtime cause Arum dint want to give in to HBO, dont recall the reasons. After that, HBO bought the Cotto-Urkal fight knowing it would not be a big attraction, but they wanted it to ensure they got the Cotto/Margo fight ( which turned into Cotto/Judah ). I doubt that will ever happen again. HBO wants Cotto full time now.

If Cotto keeps up with the way he is doing/fighting, i can see HBO putting Floyd on the back burner to Cotto. Cotto has a much more crowd pleasing style, doesnt make big fusses about fighting xyz, doesnt cry about who is worthy or not worthy to get into the ring with him, doesnt let money get in the way of big matchups, etc. What do u guys think? Why not, cotto is good to watch and has some decent boxing skills, a large fanbase, there is no reason why he cant be the main draw if and when floyd loses or really retires.

Then we'll laugh as you quickly let go of Cotto's cold nuts to grab the next hyped fighter who has a win over Judah :ugh:actually floyd is 30, but your point is well taken. i see cotto being hbo's poster child but as exciting as he is, he will take a lot of punishment especially fighting people like mayweather jr who is hbo's prodigy child. against floyd, gatti was literally destroyed. he had no chance after seeing the 1st round. now, cotto is a different fighter but still he has an excting and crowd pleasing style. but, he is too risky and does get hit a lot. against floyd, he'd get tore up, but if he fought guys like hatton or margarito who fit his style, he'll be okay. i do see him becoming the posterboy for hbo but he weill take a lot of punishment in his upcoming fights if he takes too many risks in pleasing the crowd.

not tryin to rain on the cotto parade or anything whats the situation with his child outta wedlock with another woman?? i understand he fathered another kid with another woman outside of his marriage recently anyways he could end up being the poster child for hbo i guess but floyd is still around and will be for a few more years it depends i can see cotto possibly losing to margarito if they fight cotto would lose to floyd if they fought and he could end up losing to williams due to his reach and punch output if they fought That doesn't really matter, he's real at least. DLH has kids all over the place but hides them because he is a faker and wants the world to think he's a family man etc. But he's nothing more than over paid actor. At least Floyd has his kids around and is proud of them no matter who their mother is. DLH is the worst at fronting a fake image it make me sick he's so rehearsed it's a joke.

I believe HBO would prefer Cotto over Mayweather to be their poster boy. Just saying that cause Cotto is perceived to be a good humble guy, while PBF is perceived as the "villain". Nevertheless; Cotto is not yet HBO poster boy, he still needs that HUGE win. If he beats Mosley in dominating and/or impressive fashion he will probably be there. Floyd has no choice BUT to play villain. Nobody likes/liked him anyway.

Poor chin? Has he ever been ko'd? Has he ever been knocked down and unable to come back or finish? Cotto took bombs from Torres and came back to win via KO. Im always puzzled by saying Cotto has a weak chin. I mean yes he's been stunned or buzzed a few times, but only KD once by Torres and when you see the KD it looks like he was pushed to the ground. As for being the posterboy he could be with his fan following, the huge crowd he gets at fights, and also his decent PPV numbers. Then also for sure he's exciting style and willing to fight and pressure his opponent the whole fight.

What does his marital status have to do with him being HBO's posterboy?
