Roy really isn't what he used to be, but his hands are still fast. He put together good combinations and fought off the ropes well, but I wish he didn't rely on them so much. The main difference is the foot speed, he used to leap into his punches and bounce around quite a bit more. I'm happy Roy won and looked pretty good doing it.
yeah people got to remember he is older. just like
ali stop bouncing around and started to use the ropes.
he cant boucne for 12 roudns anymore so he lures his
opponents in and counter off their mistakes and agressiveness.
I enjoyed the fight. It's not spectacular, but it's worth watching. The combination that hurt Hanshaw just before he went down was fantastic. Roy still has lightning hand speed when he lets'em go.
Roy seems to be settling into a new style that suits his "flat" feet better. It seemed he had been trying to fight his old style and his body just couldn't do it. In his last fight, and more so in this one, he seemed to be trying to adjust to a new style that's a little more traditional and conservative, with some flashes of his old self. The commentators kept wondering why he wouldn't get off the ropes during the fight, but I really think he wanted to stay on the ropes and work on counter punching. He wasn't exactly a prime James Toney, but he did a pretty good job, and will hopefully get better as he works on it. I mean, the combo the hurt Hanshaw was thrown off the ropes, and it was beautiful. Also, he'd switch to a hands up style like Winky at times, and walk Hanshaw down. Other times he'd keep his left out to measure Hanshaw, or keep his left low with his right up in his classic style. He seems to have a lot of different views to give his opponent. I'm not sure how far he'll go, but he definitely looks like he's starting to enjoy himself, and feel more comfortable in the ring than he had against Tarver in their 3rd fight.

yea I know the mclellan story so it is understandable.. I can also understand he was having fun in there and wanted the whole 12 rounds.. I just figured a KO would be more impressive.. and to be honest, you never want it to go to the cards..
he kept doin that hop step forward. I just wish he would of finished hanshaw, cuz he easily could of.. would of been more exciting way to end.. But he prety much spared him..
alot of people feel roy should of finnished him off, as i do, but roy jones has alot of respect for fighters ever since gerald mclenan(sp?) was given brain damage after the benn fight, roy jones is more cautious with his approach and knew he had the victory in the bag so he saw finnishing as not needed. hes alot wiser now.

it was good. not like great. But he looked good for a year layoff, if he keeps active he will get better. he was being too nice by not knocking hanshaw out in the 11th.. Probably could of done it earlier aswell, but it was obvious he was having fun in there..
it wasnt that exciting
roy just fought better off the ropes this time and showed he still had speed
he'd wait till hanshaw tired himself out by beatin up roy's arms on the ropes then he would walk him down and try to land a straight right and body shots
