I have been impressed with the way Gomez has improved. He seems really professional now and is pretty accurate with his punches. He may be able to break into the top 10 at WW, but like others have said at 154 he would have a better chance. There's just too much talent in the WW division at the moment for him.
Even though Baldomir isn't that great and Forrest is a shell of his former self, those guys would both still beat him down. Baldomir would stop him much like he stopped Gatti...just punching over him.
Fighting Alcine would be an awful idea as well. Alcine is a good fighter...it'd be hard for anybody to look impressive against Travis Simms.
i know, but he has a far better shot at beating those guys than beating cotto, williams, mayweather or cintron.....:lol1:
and i firmly believe he could beat baldomir, and depending on how he looks, ill decide on vernon....
baldomir beat judah with the sheer ability to take judah's shots for the first 5 rounds..........he could do what baldomir did , cus gomez is faster than baldomir and more technically sound in both offense and defense, he may not have baldo's chin but he has heart and wouldnt take as many shots as baldomir, but honestly, the ww division is pretty fucking good right now, i think gomez's best shot to a world title is to move up to 154 and fight the winner of baldomir forrest, or even alcine(the guy who beat simms...)....

Judah is a horrible style match up for him. Judah is too fast he will batter Gomez because Gomez doesn't have the punch to make Judah tenative. Gomez is definitely a GOOD WW, I picked him to win this past Saturday, and I think he is capable of beating a lower tier top 10 WW but definitely none of the top 5. Now that I'm thinking about it...Mayweather, Mosley, Cintron, Cotto, Collazo, Judah, DLH (if comes back to 147), Williams, Margarito, Clottey, Berto, Julio, Quintana all would probably beat him. So on second thought he probably can't beat a top 10 WW but that says more about how stacked the division is than it does about Gomez.
i think a gomez judah fight would be perfect. i love watching gomez fight and would love to see him make some more loot after a win against judah.
147 is a great weight for gomez. he did great saturday.
To think he could beat Judah is very, very disturbing.
Be clear about one thing. Gomez did what he was supposed to do, but Gatti made him look a lot better than he is. Gomez is no world beater. He's probably the most basic fighter I've seen on HBO in years. He does everything by the book. The fact that it was enough to beat Gatti means it's retirement time.
With that said, I like Gomez. He's a humble guy who knows where he stands and he didn't use his air time to call out a big name but another guy who's probably even less proven than he is.

I don't understand why people keep bashing Gomez for beating a shot gatti. Sure, Gatti was washed up, but Gomez put on an excellent performence that night and pretty much killed him. He showed good infighting, good jabs, and great timing. It was a solid perfomence all around. The only thing I thought he's lacking is power.
I think Gomez has great potential though honestly I don't really see him being a welterweight with all the others. I think he should move up too 154 or move down to 140 and gain experience and such. Then when he's good enough move back down to 147. I don't think he's ready to take them on yet.
Though, I would like to see him fight Chavez jr.
gomez could move up and fight the winner of forrest baldomir, he has more skill than baldomir(though baldomir has a jar head and rock chin..) and vernon is shot.. BOTH ARE WINNABLE FIGHTS...IMO...
yea gomez has shown huge improvement.. but top 10 WW... not yet anyways.. too early to tell..
how the hell is it too early to tell? when did you start keeping up with boxing..last month? everybody dosent fight 30 fights before they start to move up in competition, the contender was 3 years ago, he has fought long enough to fight the top guys in the division
He did beat up a washed up Gatti, but I like the way Alfonso handles himself. "I just do my job." Doesn't worry about the shit on the side. It also looked like in the Gatti fight that Gomez wasnt even really going 100%. He made it look easy. Maybe he can beat a Top 10 WW. But if he keeps improving he'll definitley be a Top 10 WW.
Props to Gomez.
Im not sure about becoming a top 10 welterweight but he is showing improvement every fight but ill tell you this much out of all the fightes from both contendors hes been the best out of all i mean who has the other beat that are big names fighter
