top ten heavyweights all time
Joe Louis.
To be honest with you, number two is way off. Joe Louis is in a
class by himself.
Rocky Marciano.
Just look at Rocky Marciano's record. Nobody beat him. You can't
take that from him.
Jack Johnson.
A big brave cat, because he'd do whatever he wanted and get out of
the way.
Muhammad Ali.
Put him down as the GREATEST MAN to ever box, and a hero
bigger than boxing. Once Ali lost his speed, it only showed that
he'd never developed a great defense.
Joe Frazier.
Only because he depended solely on his left hook do I rate Joe
Frazier below Marciano. Marciano could hit with both hands.
Jack Dempsy.
Jack Dempsy's very name means strength and courage. Other than
Joe Louis, there is not a name in boxing or in sports with more
meaning.
Mike Tyson.
A phenomenon. What Mike Tyson was able to do with his speed of
hand and punching power is as phenomenal as what Muhammad
Ali did when he was Cassius Clay with speed of feet. Tyson
deserves to be in the top ten; this is where I put him, the youngest
man to become Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Sonny Liston.
If Sonny Liston truly had not lost his cool, had not underestimated a
young Cassius Clay; and kept the same mind set that he had as a
contender, history would have been a lot kinder to him. Sonny
Liston could not believe Muhammad Ali was so fast and had so
much courage. It just made him fall apart.
Floyd Patterson.
The First Two-Time Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Evander Holyfield.
For standing up to Mike Tyson
holyfield and lewis both easily rate higher than tyson, who was notorious for being a fucking dangerous brute. his early days were impressive as he swept through the ranks of one of the poorest HW eras there has been and then lost to douglas while he was still in his fuckin prime befoere losin to tyson and holyfield
overrated. powerful and very dangerous, but no stamina, and couldnmyt take a punch
You cant explain because there is nothing to explain,
and to real heavy hands, he hardly got hit?
This is one of his better fights, look at the holding and wresting, no tactical brilliance here.
lol.
yeah i think the video says it all. i love jack johnson and what he did for the sport, he was great for his time. the sport has evolved since and boxers have picked up things from johnson. but i think that people tend to over rate the people who boxed a long time ago. im not saying that boxers today are the greatest cause theyre not. for whatever reason i think the best boxers came from the 40s but before that? ...
since everyone from ali to bert sugar have jack in the top 5 or top 10, you people who say he was fairly skilless are going to have to prove he didn't have good skillful boxing. i do not need to prove he did because it is already accepted common boxing knowledge.
LOL. I really don't understand how you see him as a technically skilled fighter (no pun intended). Yes, he was great for his day, but more current fighters would EASILY have taken advantage of his MANY flaws. Ali would have embarrassed this man. Frazier would have beat him bloddy. Foreman would've put him to sleep. Lennox would've toyed with him all night. The list could go on.
he was the first.. the pioneer of the style.. of course toney and mayweather and archie ali and holmes have better skills but they learned from him just like ali did.. and they learned things from him ... but he would be even beter in this era .. he would of been the greatest in any era he would evlolved
i used to think the same thing, youll learn
Lol, maybe i will, that was one of jack's better fights, you gotta see the ones where he wrestles and then get back to me about toney and mayweather, its not even boxing, he virtually clotheslined this guy.lol.
you just proved your self wrong.. did you see how he turned over his right hand yet can still hook off the jab.. he turn over his right hand beautifully something mayweather just learned to do vs oscar..he has a toney like right hand

Lol, Listen dude, i dunno how to break this to you, but Jack Johnson dont fight like mayweather and mayweather has alot more backlift on his right hand than Johnson.
I repeat.
Jack Johnson does not fight like James Toney or Mayweather.
In my opinion of course.
lol.

Funny, i didnt see him fightin anything like mayweather or toney like u said he did, and look how much holding and wrestling he was doing, and thats a better fight from him too, there is one where he virtually suplexes the guy.
Johnson, good in an era with limited skills, and crappy rules and regulations.

jack johnson was not a clubbin puncher he never got hit and smiled round after round he was only 200 lbs 6 feet tall.. he would hit and almost never get hit clean.. he was beating everbody till he was 48 years old
exactly. the best boxers in his day even, although reluctantly, stated that he was the best.
i am not even going to try to discuss this with somebody who already has thier mind made up. it's pointless.
but know this Technical_Skill, you are in a minority here calling jack johnson an unskilled fighter. maybe you should do some research on him.
What are you talking about?
Explain his tactical brilliance please.
lol.

fuck you jack johnson haters!
the man was tactically brilliant. hit hard, and was entertaining.
if any of you think he had no real skill, you simply must not know much about boxing.

like i said its hard to tell but he was the first.. takes one to know one .. when your in a peekaboo defense the only shots you can throw that will alnd are wide.. johnson knocked out ketchel with a left right that was stragiht as a pin
:ugh:
Okay, i must have missed the bit when Johnson went into a shell and started counter punching.
LOL. I haven't watched a great deal of Johnson, but I agree with you from what I've watched. He only threw wide, clubbing punches and was grabbing his opponent and pushing him around the rest of the fight. very little skill involved from what I saw.
he is the pioneer of that syle .. you just have to look close to see it

What?
How did you get that conclusion?
One is a huge guy who grappled and clubbed his way to victories when boxing was primitive,
The other is one of the most skilled defensive and offensive fighters ever seen a ring.
Jack Johnson style means he would most likely be like 'the rock', i think Jack was doing the Rock Bottom on guys long before the rock was born.
