I started watching boxing a few years ago - the first time I remember Corrales was in the first Casamayor fight. That was on a Showtime PPV, I believe - undercard of Toney vs. Holyfield.
Every fight Corrales was in after that was on Showtime or Showtime PPV. Showtime released a DVD of his fight with Freitas. Castillo must pay a judgment somewhere in the 7-figure neighborhood to Corrales (now his estate) There can be book deals, movie deals, likeness endorsements, merchandise with his name sold if a deal is made with a businessman who thinks Chico boxing gear etc. would sell, etc. etc. etc.
And then on the Dawson & Tarver card Showtime has a number on the screen where you can give money to Mrs. Corrales? I read about a benefit on fightnews for the family as well.
This is a lot of money - and potential money - earned by Chico in his life. The family doesn't need a benefit - they need a financial adviser. His widow shouldn't have to work and his kids should be able to live well and go to college off of the money he has earned and future earning potential. And if they're in debt now because of poor spending - that can be remedied as well, fresh start through bankruptcy whatever.
I just can't believe a family living with a celebrity - and living like celebrities - at this point are asking for money from strangers, many of them working-class ...
Corrales gave me great momments in boxing and I always received more than my monies worth when seeing him compete. I wouldn't mind giving money to his estate as I see it as giving a tip for going above and beyond. I will like to think that his children will have a lifestyle which Corrales had worked hard to provide for them.
I agree He was never boring an never not worth the money!!! Hope they get what shaw owes them!!!
The boxing contracts have specific weights put into them. Making this weight is a contractoral obligation. Castillo didn't fulfill his contractoral obligations what would you call that? The contentious issue is whether or not missing making weight was forseable and whether Castillo was being negligient or maliciously clandestine in his failure to inform his opponent or officials about the possibility of him not making weight.
what i said... making weight in itself cannot be ground of a lawsuit, because it can damage the fighters. What you mention is the ground for a lawsuit.
Corrales gave Castillo a free pass on the first fight and still fought. He was right in not risking his health on someone who has failed to make weight for him twice in a row.
Corrales is a warrior and I'm sure that if Castillo had informed Corrales a week or two before the fight that he wouldn't be able to make weight that Corrales would've still fought Castillo at a catch weight.
that is just your wishful thinking, nothing to be sure about.
the fact that stays is that Corrales did NOT take the fight and sued Castillo, Casa took it and beat Corrales.
there is no breach of contract for failing to make weight in a fight. parts cannot be held responsible if they fail to take an action damaging their health.

People love to talk about promoters and managers ripping off boxers but often fail to discuss boxers having irresponsible spending habits and failing to put money away for a rainy day. I personally think most boxers end up broke because most of them were raised in poverty, and in this kind of environment planning for the future is often not emphasized or important. The reality is that many poor people live only for the day and do not think about the future. Imagine putting a million dollars in the hands of someone with this kind of mentality and they are sure to wastefully spend without investing a penny. As the old saying goes, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
While it may true to trust no one with your money, almost everyone does it to some extent. It's life. Look at those Enron employees. They (like most people) had others managing their retirement funds. That's totally normal, and those people were intellegent, professional people and they got blindsided. That asshole Lou Perlman, who 'discovered' all those late 90s Boy Bands is on the run for stealing millions in investors money.
Someone said earlier about how like 90% of boxers are broke, many before they retire. The assholes who rip them off have done that shit for years. They have it down to a science.
Generally, unless a boxer has a strong(and intellegent) family around to watch his back ALL THE TIME, he is gonna get screwed. PERIOD. Without that support, it's like sending a beautiful young woman to Hollywood alone on a bus to hit it big. Odds are it is gonna turn out real ugly.
fuck you........if she needs help then she needs help ...fuck face.......damn she is probably left with outstanding bills that crazy corrales left behind.....R.I.P. Deigo:boxing:
that is very possible
Casamayor gave Diego the same courtesy Diego gave Castillo when Diego STILL fought.
The first time is understandable both Casa and Diego acknowledged that by still fighting but its blatantly disrespectful to miss weight on a guy in consecutive fights.
In business terms Castillo was in breach of contract and Corrales decided to hold him accountable.

that's ironic, I think I remember other fighters coming in at jr ww for a lightweight title fight, oh yeah... DIEGO CORRALES
Casamayor did not lose money by Corrales not making weight. how could he pull such an amazing financial trick? Did he hire Goldman Sachs to advise him? No, he got in the ring and beat Corrales.

3rd fight Castillo comes in at 139.5lbs (that is what guys weight-in as jrWW). Corrales doesn't want to fight a jrWW, I can't blame him. However Corrales has expenses i.e. Sparring partners, gym fee's, mortage etc.... Corrales lost money as a Direct result of Castillo not making weight. He should get back the money he would've otherwise received.

What were the 250000 fines used to pay for..........weigh in fees?
That was a fine. It doesn't cover the lost revenue. Just think if you were a computer programmer in high demand and were commissioned to create a program at your regular rate of $1million dollars.
You spend your time and resources developing the program for 3 months and the day your to upload it to the network they say your program is no longer needed.
At this point you would'nt sue for your full $1 million?

Anyone that doesn't know their own account number is an idiot and deserves to get ripped off. There's an old saying "Trust no one when it comes to your money." I don't care how busy you, never assign the responsiblity of collecting and distributing your money over to another human being because you stand the greatest chance of getting screwed. The fighter is supposed to collect the money and then write the checks to the manager, sparring partners, etc.
1Often that's not the case. To be a top level fighter, you must spend a huge amount of time training, running, watching your diet, etc. That is why boxers get managers and promoters, so they have more time to train and not worry about that stuff. Sadly, they are often robbed blind.
I have heard stories of guys who had no clue what their account numbers were! Some had no idea what banks they had money in! They had someone taking care of paying their bills and stuff. If the one they hired was not honest, they got robbed there too.
Bullshit scam
Sounds like Mrs. Corrales needs to go find herself a job just like the rest of us.
Any working stiff that gives one red cent is a dumb ass in need adult protective services themselves. Folks need to get real:nonono:
All of that is true but like I said its still HIS (DIEGO CORRALES) FAULT. I don't give a fuck how much I train or none of that shit I am going to know whats going on with MY HARD EARNED MONEY. Think about for whatever reason his family has for their money not being right his kids and wife is fucked. There is no excuse for that shit. I FEEL NO SYMPATHY FOR A MAN OR WOMAN WHO ALLOWS THEMSELVES TO CHEATED.
I'm not trying to start shit, but do you train with active fighters? And have you ever seen or signed a fight contract? I've been in my trainers office when contracts are faxed over. He looks it over and calls in the fighter. Usually the fighter glances at it, asks like if the money and opponent is what he was promised, and then signs it and goes back to working out. Now my trainer is honest, but you can see how easy an asshole could rob these guys.
Another thing to consider, I've seen my trainer have to deal with promoters for a few weeks off and on just to hammer out 4 round fights sometimes. Imagine the negotiations for big PPV fights!!! If the fighters had to handle that, and all the other stuff managers, etc do; you do realize how much less training time they would have?

I feel sorry for no man or woman who allows themselves to be cheated and exploited. I have even less sympathy for Corrales because he knew what was going on.

Corrales gave us some big fights and memories so why not give back in memory of him...............with that said............I am disgusted on what they are trying to do to Castillo. Lawsuits and shit because of the weight issue. Castillo paid his dues and he is in a very tough financial situation. As many of you know he had to borrow money from his promotor just to pay fines. And when Corrale's wife kissed Hatton that was the most fkn disrespectful thing I saw. It was almost like she was thanking Hatton for beating Castillo.
I think she was thankful for Hatton dedicating the fight to him(Diego). It's not like she was giving him any tongue or anything... :lol1:
