My spine shivers after every round. Especially when LAMPLEY, MERCHANT and LEONARD called it. AFter the first round, Merchant said "...and i actually GAVE that round to DOUGLAS!!!"
chilling. The whole fight was just unbelievable.
I was thinking of some other moments in boxing that give me chills. Corrales-Castillo ROUND 10, Hagler-Hearns ROUND 1, and Louis-Shmelling ROUND 12. Those moments in boxing were beyond amazing and broke every expectation or assumption any fan had ever made on those fights.
But those dont even compare to Douglas-Tyson
I watched it again, too. First time since I saw the fight live, and my opinion hasn't changed. Tyson was never overrated. He was really good at what he did in the ring, but I think Douglas was the first heavy to refuse to be intimidated by his power, and his ability to get inside quick and unload powerful combinations with such frightening accuracy. And I think Douglas was also the first one who knew how to keep Tyson at bay, and the first one to show that Tyson didn't do well when someone was willing to give him a serious fight.
However, I will say this: If Tyson hadn't been such a psychopathic retard, he'd have quite possibly been the second heavy to go undefeated his entire career, and wouldn't be the fucking black-mark on the boxing world he is today. He had the tools, speed, and the ability. He was just so fucked up mentally that it's amazing he lasted as long as he did. The night he bit Holyfield's ear off should've been the last time he was ever allowed into a boxing ring as a professional fighter.
Im a big Tyson fan but I give a man his due where its deserved and Douglas definitley deserved his win. The count appeal was just King desperatly making a play not to lose his cash cow. Tyson never trained properly, underestimated Douglas and paid the price for it.His corner were garbage and had couldnt tell him how to counter Douglas's jabbing so by the end he was just like a punching bag for Douglas.
Tysons not the kinda guy who'd want pity and I've never once heard him complain that he was robbed in that fight. Some people will buy whatever theyre sold. Watch the fight again there was no way Tyson was unfairly counted, the refs counts not the same as a stop watch count. If the count was wrong for Tyson then surely it was wrong for Douglas too but the difference is Douglas got up.
in my eyes tyson should of won by tko, and i see why don king appealed to that right after the fight
Douglas was staring right at the ref.
The count could have been 7 seconds and he still would have made it. He was completely aware of his situation

I cant even watch that fight i feel sick when its on!
Well, the fight should've been over when Douglas hit the canvas. I counted 13 seconds from the time he hit to the time he got up. The ref did a terrible job and that should've been a KO victory for Tyson.
I will never forget when I heard Tyson lost. I was fairly young and believed Tyson to be undefeatable.
As for Tyson's demise, the vast majority of the blame has to fall on Tyson himself. An adult should be held responsible for his own actions and choices, and Tyson has made some very poor decisions in his life.
But having said that, Tyson is also developmentally disabled and was clearly taken advantage of at ever step of his life and career ever since "Cus" D'Amato died. Tyson was a troubled person who needed good people looking out for his best interest. That obvioussly didn't happen.
So while I don't necessarily feel sorry for Tyson, I do hope the story of his life ends well.
Tyson shouldn't have won by TKO, that's bullshit. If you look at the fight, the ref makes a proper count and Tyson doesn't stay in his corner prompting the ref to look at him for one second and motion him back to the nuetral corner. I counted 9 seconds exactly with one second of real time for the ref to motion Tyson back to the nuetral corner. Look at the fight again........
At the time it was the greatest upset and I guess still should be because of the odds invloved. All these years later though I'm not as suprised because Tyson is one of the most overrated fighters in the history of boxing. Someone said Douglas ruined Tyson......TYSON RUINED TYSON. He was a selfish, self absorbed, psychotic child that never understood what he had until it was gone. He never grew up, plain and simple. Watching Douglas beat his ass as well as Holyfield makes me smile every time. It's basically good triumphing over evil in real life.
Overrated? Please, why dont you win a title at age 20,get all that money, fame, girls, deals, and be normal,no one could, especially at that age and his upbringing, the shit Tyson went through was enough, all that just added to it,it fucked up his mentality
in my eyes tyson should of won by tko, and i see why don king appealed to that right after the fight

also one of the longest counts ive ever seen when tyson knocked douglas down..

I call it the biggest upset in boxing HISTORY,not just the division, but boxing as a whole
Man,Tyson could have won when he knocked Douglas down,it was a very long count
yes i no tyson lost..but when tyson knocked douglas down that was the slowest count ever..i reached 11 when the ref was still at 8..and douglas was still on his way up at 9..he should have been counted out..but oh well..
I thought it was funny how in the beginning the announcers were saying we should note that there was a huge crowd, because we might not have noticed because chinese people don't cheer very laud.
Yeah this was a sad fight in many ways. Tyson not coming prepared and boxing like shit (going for the knockout and not using head movement, etc). Tyson's inept corner. And Tyson getting battered like a rag doll the whole fight before he gets layed out. Props to Douglas who fought an amazing fight, too bad he wasn't as motivated when he fought Holyfield.
i keep feeling better and better for douglas. He worked hard for that fight and earned his 15 minutes of fame the hardest way.
A baseball player earns theres with one swing of the bat, a boxer earns it over many grueling and physically taxing rounds of boxing
Dont get me wrong, I felt happy for Douglas and all but I would have felp alot happier if he could have actually held onto the belt that Tyson had for so long...
It's like seeing such a great champion like Tyson fall and cant get up that makes me feel sorry for him. I guess it just comes down to how much of a fan I am of Tyson's that makes me feal sorry for him
