As boxing fans, what have you accepted Hattons style of clinching and punching as acceptable? I give him all the credit he deserves but I hate that style of fighting. Ur opininons.................:boxing:
Hopkins has been known to use exactly the same style. His second fight with Taylor was tedious because he would trhwo one punch and hold until the ref broke it up. And yet Hopkins is insanely popular.
He has a shit style but it dont matter to much to me!!! Because a good boxer should be able to handle that style!!! pbf and cotto would beat the shit out of him!!!
I don't like his style. Chickenshit-*** style I will call it! lol
Nah, it's not entirely that bad, but it is more irritating than exciting in my eyes.
The first round is the worst thing I've seen since Ruiz.
It gets better, but not nearly as good as Hatton would look without all the hugging.
I have no problem with his style - Its throwback rough house boxing, its just not as common today.
And MH is spot on, the clinching simply wasn't a big problem in castillo fight. Castillo was used to bullying his opponents and this time he got bullied himself and Hatton bettered him on the inside.
That said Hatton isn't the most entertaining out there - but it is certainly 'acceptable'
I have watched the fight half a dozen times now and it was a good fight, the clinching has been blown out of all proportion.
Hattons style is busy and exciting, yes he does stifle his opponents but that works for him.
If you prefer to watch a fight where there are half a dozen beautiful shots thrown a round fine, don't watch Hatton.
He is a brawler plain and simple, I can name dozens of fighters who have fought this way, as I said if you don't like then just don't watch it lol.
It seems that the haters just cannot leave it alone, Hatton couldn't give a fuck and neither could his fans, he is 43-0 and a two weight World Champion, he was supposed to lose against Tszyu but made him quit on his stool, some thought Castillo would be too good for him yet.....amazingly both those fights now mean nothing as they were both over the hill and shot, fuck me lol.
If you aren't man enough to admit when you were wrong then dont make a fool out of yourselves by stating that a fighter will beat another only to back track after it goes pear shaped!
Yes its boxing, every boxer does what works for him, Winky Jabs and hides, Ruiz would throw one punch and hold similar to Hatton but Hatton throws like 2-3 punches and grabs, its the boxers job to overcome that and win the fight.
hnk_jr Sure, but I like Cotto's, Margarito, Calzaghe, B-Hop, Barrera, and Manny Pac's better. Much, much better.
I like Cotto and Manny Pac too, if Hatton keeps fighting like he did in this fight I'll be a fan of his as well. Quite impressive, the clinching wasn't a big part of the fight in my eyes just two guys who like to mix it in close, bound to be clinching. If he fights Mayweather, he has to fight someone of that calibre next, I fear he may be overmatched. We'll see.

maybe the ufc fans enjoy it
The Hatton fight was mildly entertaining, I suppose. I really enjoy the pre-fight and post-fight commentary and interviews or random fans and whatnot.
The segment they had on Mike Moorer vs. George Foreman afterwards was something I regrettably hadn't heard about beforehand, and it was quite interesting. What an upset!
I disagree with the Mayweather comment. Hattons last fight was unbearable to watch. Some of Mayweathers have been boring as well but it's like watching an artist at work. The Corrales, Gatti, Ndou, fights were examples of how a master boxer works
I cant agree at all that hattons fight was unbearable to watch. there was loads of punches thrown, both men landing , big shots landing. so there was some holding and leaning it was good exciting stuff. I can apreciate a defensive slick performance but its no where near as entertaining.
Deezenuts you say you hate Hattons style of boxing and i will have to take your word for it. But boxing would be boring if every boxer did the same shit and looked like carbon copies of each other. So the answer to your query, of course Hattons style is acceptable to us.

At least when hatton fights there is action in the ring and excitement which cant be said for some top fighters who seem to be very boring to watch (a la Mayweather)
