It Was Oscar's Fault For Boring Fight!

oscar and floyd have comparable ko ratios..any fighter that gets in the ring with floyd and doesn't take into account his power is stupid. oscar stopped fighting after the 5th round, a round in which floyd took his heart with multiple counter rights. Oscar's only hope was to brawl with floyd because from a technical standpoint he is not on floyds level. Considering Oscar's best rounds were 6, 7 and 8 this is a very poor statement. Oscar could have done more but FLoyd did far less to push the fight. That said at this weight its what you will get fromFloyd time and time again because it is the only way he can win.

Both of these guys COULD have made the fight more exciting but that is not their style. We can blame both of them. As the bigger man DLH should have pressed the action especially if Mayweather couldn't hurt him. Mayweather certainly could have stood in the pocket and used more combination punching but he was the smaller man and that isn't the best strategy. Anyhow the fight was what it was nothing more nothing less. We can play the hypothetical game all night.

I found the fight to be a very entertaining chess match, although I didnt agree with the decision. We can of course thank Oscar only for that though. PBF had Oscar finished physically and mentally in the late rounds, he had the reach advantage, and he proved he wasnt a fighter by showing zero aggression STILL, even after DLH stopped pressing in a meaningful way. Im pretty sure Floyd has the only corner in boxing that doesnt say "throw combinations!" whenever the fight is getting stagnant or close.

Really good post... It still amazes me that, even with all the disadvantages that Floyd came into the fight with, he still won it. Oscar should have lived up to his end of the bargain by punishing Floyd like he said he would, yet he showed Floyd a lot of respect in that ring, with moments of flurries. I'm sure Oscar won't want a rematch, simply because he probably thought to himself: "OK, I set the parameters to my advantage (Being the bigger man with the WBC belt and all), I worked my ass off in the gym, brought in Freddie who motivated the hell of me, shoot, I even had Sugar Shane sparring with me...and I still lost? Umm, I don't think anyone wants to see rematch." :boxing:

few boxing matches are boring.IMO and DLH-PBF wasnt boring......in fact i dont think ive ever seen DLH in a boring fight.....PBF was just boring against Baldomir.........DLH actually made this fight entertaining, if it were up to PBF this wouldve been Myaweather Baldomir 2

I really enjoyed it too but I know Im in the minority, espically nowdays. If you dont fight like Pac or Cotto then Merchant and all the fans will diss you. Its not fair but it is reality. I could watch a boxing match all day

The fight is over period. I wish we would all put it behind us. De La Hoya tried to make the fight happen he applied pressure. He probably should have threw more. But don't blame DLH for a boring fight. It takes two to tango. Your right the fight happened about 2 months ago and people are still talking about it. Floyd decisioned Oscar in a high speed chess type of boxing match. Most who have seen Floyd fight before knew that what happened was going to happen. At this point if your still talking shit about Floyd how he is a coward and runs then it's just hate.

Some of you say that if Oscar did that then it wouldve opened him up to be countered? So! Thats what bigger guys do. Cotto, Diaz, Margarito, Mosley, and the others can be countered all day but do you think thats going to stop them from imposing there will on the smaller man? Floyd is Floyd and 8 out of 10 times he is a boxer. We all know that. People keep talking about what Floyd said he was going to do but what about Oscar? He said the same shit and even more. Real boxing fans like us knew that Floyd would box. Oscar is the guy who didnt push the fight. The problem is that people get mixed up between a guy coming forward and a guy pushing the fight. They think Oscar did something because he came forward? So the fuck what. He didnt sell out at all. He's got a guy in front of him who he outweighs by 20 pounds and belongs at 140 but yet he cant make Floyd fight? Thats a fuckin joke. What about all that shit him and Roach were talking about how there going to get dirty and make it a dog fight. Thats what anyone would do with that huge weight advantage. Oscar came forward but he wasnt aggressive at all. He was just as cautious as Floyd and thats sad. Just because your coming forward doesnt mean your not cautious. Taylor came forward the whole fight against Spinks but did he do shit? No, thats why Manny and all the fans ripped him. He was super cautious also. Atleast he had somewhat of an excuse. Spinks Southpaw style threw him off and when he sold out early he got hit by blind punches. Floyd is a righty and didnt move nearly as much as Spinks. What Oscar shouldve done is what a guy like Floyd and others do. Look at when Floyd played the stalker role against guys like Zab, Mitchell, Corley, and others. He walked them down and made them fight. He walked them down and punished them. Floyd is a elite fighter who knows how to cut off the ring and make guys fight. All those guys moved way more then Floyd did against Oscar. Floyd is not even a stalker but when he does it he can do it even better then Oscar. Look at Cotto. Zab did a little early but then ran the rest of the fight. Did they stink it up? No, because Cotto made Zab's ass fight. He walked him down, kept constant pressure, and punished him. Zab moved way more then Floyd. Paulie is the same way. Look how Cotto made him fight. Now think about Floyd vs Cotto, Mosley, & Margarito. You think those guys wouldnt make it a action packed fight no matter what Floyd tried to do? Those guys sell out and make you fight. There not cautious like Oscar was. Floyd didnt run like Dirrell and he didnt even do what Spinks or Zab does. Floyd just steps to the side. You all know that Floyd takes his time and hardly moves. He's not that hard to get too if you really want to get to him. Oscar didnt. Oscar just KO a big strong guy like Mayorga but wouldnt apply any real pressure to a shrimp like Floyd who he has 20 pounds and 3 inches on? It makes no sense. Lets think about Floyd fighting a guy he outweighs by 20 pounds. 1st off he only weighs 148 so the guy would probally be a guy who fights at a 122 pounds. You think Floyd wouldnt walk that guy down and crush him? Lets even say that Floyd was fighting MAB. MAB would try to box like he did against Juarez but you think Floyd wouldnt make his ass fight? Even if Floyd fought someone like Pauliel, he would walk him down and punish him or atleast make him fight. Thats Oscars job. Look at how Freitas started running from Diaz? What did Diaz do? That shit is Oscar's fault. Floyd was the guy moving up fighting a guy who is 3 inches taller, 20 pounds bigger, and just KO a huge Mayorga while Floyd should be at 140. Floyd is the guy who was fighting at 154 and coming into the ring 6 pounds under the limit. Floyd is the guy who didnt know what to expect at that weight and all he heard about was how he had to watch out for Oscar's hook and power. Even Sr. kept telling Floyd in camp to respect Oscar's power. You knew he would fight like that. I think he would fight different in a rematch because he saw he could handle the weight but Oscar didnt sell out at all. How many times were Floyd on the ropes? Oscar hardly ever rushed and tried to flurry. The ring was super small, they had little gloves on, and Floyd isnt known for his power but Oscar still showed him that respect? I bet anything that if Floyd fights Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, or even Hatton then it would be a exciting fight because even if Floyd didnt want to throw one punch all night they would make Floyd fight or dominate him if he didnt. You cant put that shit on Floyd. How can people blame Floyd but then rip Taylor when Spinks ran 10x more then Floyd? Its a joke Now hes talking about injuries and B.S. Floyd had to fight one way to win, DLH had to fight another way to win. Floyd fought his way more effectively than DLH fought his, so yes I blame DLH too. How do you blame the guy who IS doing what he has to do to win? Oscar had to make the fight exciting to win and he didn't. I still can't believe how many people think Oscar won the fight because EVERY Oscar fan I watched the fight with was handing me my money as soon as the 12th round ended.
