HEROES...teddy atlas.....people who bash our military on here

BTW I hadn't read all of the previous posts on this page. I am pro-soldier, not pro-Iraq war. I think you can be both and still be American. You are not required to like or even support everything the government does. I simply want to support the PEOPLE that are fighting over in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you feel the war should come to an end in no way am I saying that this is anti-American... but I do think its unfair to criticize soldiers for bullying smaller countries when our GOVERNMENT deploys them and orders them.

However, it was a choice of his to duck the draft and did not make him a hero. A martyr maybe, but not a hero. His work to achieve racial equality and his work for his people is what made him a hero in my eyes. This is coming from a 10-year veteran of the armed forces so I don't want to hear any bullshit about me not supporting the troops because I was a god-damned troop, k? Anywho, disagreement with this war (or any war) and wanting it to end is not being against the troops. Wanting to bring the troops home instead of leaving them in the sandbox to be killed by IEDs is supporting the troops more than wanting to leave them in that environment for 15 months, as Gates recently extended the time Army folks spend there. I support Congress pulling the purse strings and forcing the warmongers to choose between their war and the troops' safety. If they choose to leave the troops in danger without the proper equipment (as they are doing now even without Congress pulling the funding) then the "not supporting the troops" label should fall on them (specifically President Bush). I believe that this "war" is a lost cause and has been since we entered Iraq. I was all in favor of the Afghanistan war but the current administration has taken the "cowboy" attitude too far. It is the way that the Bush admin. steered the military that made me realize that I did not want to be a part of it any longer so I got out right before my 10-year mark. I wouldn't change my experiences in the military for anything in the world, tho, and I most definitely do not regret joining. I just got to the point where I was too unhappy to stay and do 20 and retire.

Canadians made grave sacrifices in the Second World War, and played mroe than their part in the D-Day landings. Confronting disrespect with disrespect is not the answer, don't pretend that the United States is the only nation to have ever fought a just war.

i think some people on here are more gung ho about the military, than some people who are actually in the military, a veteran like myself can barely discuss dissent with certain things without setting off some kind of backlash. The political climate this country has come to a point where any disagreement about the troops/military turns into a fierce "YOUR DISRESPECTING THE TROOPS" and rants like this. On top of that, the topic creator has a need to emphasize the fact that the guy lives in canada, one of the fuckin coolest places in the damn world. Exactly. I tell my friends that I support the troops, but I don't support the government decisions. Then they turn it around on me and make the easy arguement of your disrespecting the troops, if you don't like it live somewhere else, and basically saying that Im not as American as them. It just doesn't make sense isn't the best part about being American is that we are able to express ourselves freely and not be punishhed for it, but now when you do your anti-american and should live somewhere else just because you don't believe exactly what the government is doing. It almost makes me feel sometimes that I should just turn over and become a zombie to the government and do exactly what they say.

Yes, I have the greatest respect for the Americans soldiers who liberated countries like France in WW 2. General Patton was arguably the best military leader in history. And the Battle of Midway was truly heroic, with the American navy being greatly outnumbered but still winning, and turning the tide of WW 2. Didn't he look like George C Scott? The resemblance was uncanny. Sorry for the flippancy but this thread seems out of place on a boxing forum.

I'm not a kid, I'm an old man! And suggesting Muhammed Ali made the right decision all those years ago is not bashing the military. I agree with this. I would also like to add that Men and Women in the military should always be repsected and admired (With the exception of a few rotten apples of course) but in general the ones that door their job should be honored.It is not them that choose their battles,If you want to be upset about war you don't blame the soldiers you blame the government......But without these men and women we are all at risk.Sometimes you agree with the battles they have to fight,sometimes you don't but either way we are lucky to have those brave men and women.
