We all agree on this right? Then why do Mayweather and Spinks among others get criticized so badly for moving around the ring? People will say, "Oh he doesnt deserve the win, he ran all night!" And? What I saw was Spinks moving around the ring, and making Taylor miss. Sure it doesnt look as nice as slipping a punch, but it gets the job done.
Fighters like Spinks shouldnt get penalized for the way they fight. Larry Merchant even said Spinks was a throwback to the old days with his skill. Then he said fighters like that should either look for another occupation or change their style. What kind of bullshit is that? Listen I wont pay money to see Spinks fight, and more times than not I wont even watch him fight. Still Im not going to sway more towards his opponent just because of the way he fights.
But we are going in circles again. Baldomir, who pretty much walked into his fight with Mayweather at 170, got banged with a couple of "stunning shots"..
Judah was getting walked down and was pretty much on his way of getting beat down until he pulled that bullshit move whould like to disagree..
DLH got caught with a couple of good shots, and if you would like to disagree, watch the fight again.
I have.
Mayweather isn't Hearns. He isn't Duran. But he can crack when need be. Trust me on this one.
I don't think dude ever said that "Mayweather HAS MAD KO POWER, YO" JoePal. But Floyd does hit harder then a lot of you give credit for. I think thats what his POINT was.
And you have to be a HATER to say Mayweather can't punch. Sure he dosen't have the knock you dead power of a Hearns, Duran, or SRL. But he hits harder then a lot of people on this board think. Hatton will find this out he hard way on Dec 8th.
the sport of boxing is about hurting your opponent. in't mind matches between boxers that end in a decision as long as they tried to hurt ther opponent and n ot just outland the jab
This was my rant after watching the Spinks/Taylor fight that I thought Spinks won. I'm just as bored watching Spinks move and pot shot as the next guy, however it doesn't take away the fact that Taylor whiffed on most of his shots, and at times even looked lost.
Your attempt at sarcasm has failed. ABORT!
I wasn't being sarcastic, are you NOT trying to punch the guy in his face or body until he falls down? Thank you come again.
Im still intact, nothing went "wrong"................Rockin':boxing:
Yeah I was just joking. I really appreciate your contributions to these forums, by the way.
Some people think the goal of boxing is to entertain the fans. Some fans like me like watching a good tactical match. I haven't seen a ton of Spinks, but as far as Floyd goes he had one boring fight. The DLH fight wasn't great but it didn't suck IMO. Floyd stood toe-to-toe with Judah, and with Mitchell. I have no respect for anyone who says he is a boring fighter after just one boring fight. They forgot he embarassed Gatti busted up Judah, and dominated Corley.
"some fans" the majority of fans don't so why are they gonna cater to the minority to make them happy?
A goal in boxing behind the wins and loses is to come out with all oif your mental capacities still intact................Rockin':boxing:
So what went wrong dude?
Haha just kidding :boxing:
I disagree. The point is to win a fight by KO, not judge's decision. Give the fan's their money's worth. If they can do it without getting hit, fine. But we haven't seen that lately. Boxing is going bust because people want "style" over "substance" starting with people like Floyd Mayweather....
The goal of boxing is to win, as is the case in all sports. All sports are also meant to entertain. The issue is the most effective way to win in this sport is also the least fan-friendly.
I love a good boxing match... but there are fighters like Spink and whatnot who show the difference between boxing and running.
Judah floored Mayweather, but it wasn't called a knockdown but it was clearly a knockdown since Mayweathers gloves clearly hit the canvas
Ermm no, mayweather was off balance trying to counter judah, and caught a shot as he was on the way down anyways, Mayweather wasnt 'floored', thus, why his hand touched the canvas, and he was fine throughout the fight, didnt get hurt in that fight, and had judah in the way out before he resorted to dirty tactics.
Mayweather's hand did touch the canvas, it should have been scored a knockdown, no he didnt get 'floored'.

Liked this post, i was tempted to do a thead on that bastard merchant, i watched Pavlik vs Miranda and saw Merchants comments towards spinks, he basically said it would be a crap fight if "cory had anything to do with it"
Plus the way he spoke to Jermaine Taylor after the fight was out of order, he clearly thinks he is above these guys, he is a disrespectul sack of shit, and mayweather was totally correct to put him in his place,
Dude makes money talking into a mic and he thinks he can disrespect boxers on national tv, i hope dana white calls out Larry Merchant, we should stick his ass in the UFC, he would age like fine wine in that octagon.
lol.

if every fighter fought like mayweather (of recent memory) and spinks, boxing would've been gone long time ago. just imagine, mayweather vs mayweather or spinks vs spinks... no matter how much u love boxing, u wouldn't wanna watch that kinda matchup everytime u turn to boxing broadcast.
Sadly that is true for most people. I happen to love seeing a pitcher's duel in a baseball game or a football game with great defense, and boxing is the same way for me. I can appreciate the craft of outboxing an opponent. I think its too bad most fans see boxing as two people trying to punch each other instead of two people "boxing".
biggest problem with boxing and the promotion companies...MONEY
they want to generate money and money only, they don't really care about the state of boxing right now.
seriously, if they wanna revive boxing, they need to set up some good match-ups (styles make fights) that would be exciting enough for casual fans, and reward those who put on good shows for the fans.
Boxing has changed from the old days of "hit and not get hit".
Now it's all about entertainment.
You're so right! Boxing was going toe-to-toe, the one that was standing was the champion, and got paid more than the loser. This "hit and don't get hit" is like a broken clock....after a while, it's don't look right. Some prize fighters have shown they can take a hit, and come back to knock out his opponent (Cotto, Trinidad, Talyor (Meddrick), Michael Carbajal, Sugar Ray Leonard, just to name a few of my favorite fighters. When you don't get hit....and get in there with some one can bang...it's hard to beat the 10 count. Ask Roy Jones.
