Lou DiBella commented/inferred on ESPN in a showdown with Joe Rogan that UFC has seen success because of the fan base of White males it appeals to.
(I have made similiar comments like this myself here on the forum.)
What is the truth about race and fighting sports - in particular; Boxing?
Would Boxing be hurting like it is if it had as many White champions and superstars as it has non-White champions and superstars?
Is the sport really a victim of racial politics as Teddy Atlas has suggested?
What is the story here?..
Sports are the one place where race should not be a factor. In football, it does not matter what race, culture, religion, sexuality, or favorite food is of the guy next to you. If he doesn’t do his job then your team fails.
In boxing, when your tired, blood is blocking the air entering your nose, and your ribs hurt from that last left hook, the measure of a man (or woman) is how your press through your pain, keep your wits about you, and perform like champion. That should be the only measure of a boxer.
I’m not naïve, I know racism exists in this world. I also know I am not perfect and have a lot of faults. But the one thing I believe and promote in my life if that the measure of an athlete is the size of their heart and not the pigment of their skin.
that was beautiful, but like i keep stating ,we will root for our nationality because someone will bring it up-the subject.in politics, most people supported this aweful war in in iraq only because it was like supposedly our only option and it was for America, our race, i didnt support it. All was for nothing and we,Americans who did support it were only supportive because of nationality. Now everyone claims to have been against the war.good people wound up wanting americans to go to war. nobody will ever fix this problem, its always gonna be their.

Guys, you would be naive to think that boxing or most of the sports as a whole are not about race, they are as racey as it gets does not matter wether its America or Europe. And that is absolutely normal, not normal on the other hand, is to discriminate based on race or discriminate as a whole. People root for fighters and to root for someone, you need to associate with him and the first thing you look for(and actually see) in the fighter is his appearance, then their act and so forth. So, people rooting for a fighter based on his race, ethnicity, place of birth, etc.. is natural. And, well, I dont care who you root for nad what are the reasons, the only thing one should care is class and being able to judge unbiasedly.
Exactly, thats why I root for Mexican Fighters, Im American of Mexican descent so i root for Mexican fighters but im real as possible so id tell people of Mexican descent That my idol JC Chavez isnt the greatest Mexican fighter ever or great as we make him out to be. The Mexican public get mad when id state a solid argument of 2 current fighters that are better are Morales and Barrera.
I've always argued that the best way to counter racism is integration and familiarity. These former Eastern Bloc counties have no black people, and people fear the unknown. It's very easy to hate, say, black people or Indian people. Much easier than hating Steve who is on your football team, Rajesh who works with you, Michael at your boxing club etc. Once you realise that colour is not important on a personal level you realise how stupid and bloody minded racism is.
Yeah racism can be extreme on the continent, particularly in Italy and Spain. In Britain you would never get that sort of action nowadays. You did in the 70s though. The only team whose fans didn't throw bananas at black players in the 70s was Leeds United. That wasn't because they were not racist, it's because they are so stupid that they think that the bananas are an incentive...
yea american fans want a white american champ. the reason there arent that many white american boxers is well...for the most part white kids really arent training to be boxers cuz they feel its a black sport. its sad but its true. and in Europe, they dont give a shit about race and thats why u see a lot of euro champions and a lot of hot prospects from there. If ur good, ur good, race has nothing to do with it.
Im A American but This is the truth,
Reasons we dont put Calzaghe or Hatton in our top 10 p4p are they arent Americans
Just like i posted 3 or 4 posters ago, black and white kids in America dont like boxing, America dont dominate Boxing and when they have a good fighter, theyovereact like with Floyd, calling him greatest of all time cause hes undefeated, or Shane Mosley ,Vernon Forrest calling them at one point
#1p4p because one big fight. Every time i hear some American journalist putting a Chris Byrd, Samuel Peter, James Toney, Calvin Brock ,Hasim Rahman, ranked ahead of W.Klischko until Klischko beat most them American fighters or they lost to some Euro. I never seen Vitali or Wladimir in anyones top 10 p4p slots but ive seen Americans James Toney , Chris Byrd, Calvin Brock, In fact ive never seen even undefeated Euros like Hatton or Calzaghe in top spots but in American posters on this site would put Zab Judah, Corey Spinks, Tim Austin, Derick Gainers on their list, I dont like soccer but i know America doesnt dominate, England has good teams year after year so Americans hate soccer. My U.S team in soccer is not very good as it should be so we bash it. Baseball is now dominated by latinos so we dont watch it with passion as if it were the American pastime anymore. Hockey is basically few Americans and mainly foreigners so we dont watch it at all. We watch Americans watch Basketball and Football because its dominated by Americans. Basketball is supposedly not watchable as it used to be. I always hear on T.V, basketball is on a downfall, the sport is getting worse,is it really, no, its not, basketball only has too many foreigners coming to the NBA. The new stars which are foreiners are all supposedly not marketable, thats not true, its just that we dont want to market foreign players. Football is filled with Ameicans so its now Americas pastime.
So it's YOUR FAULT!
I read recently Sven Goran-Eriksson is interested in managing the blues... That would be pretty good.
we see now, Sven wasnt so bad, when you look at Mclaren now, Sven is looking like a genius.

In L.A its extremely diverse in here, i knew so many black kids in high school, they dont really know squat about Floyd at all except he beat Oscar recently,i know many blacks, not one likes boxing, In fact they dont even know who pacquiao is, not joking, I knew many white kids ,none of them liked boxing at all as well, only Latin kids like boxing, i talked football and basketball with black and whites. The LA Times doesnt cover boxing at all. La Opinion newspaper does. Local English channels dont have boxing televised at all. Spanish channels do like boxing fights on Solo Boxeo on channel 34, when fights are in LA, you see a latino audience, this is why Mexico has so many champs, kids today idolize boxers so they want to become boxers while white kids talk about Tony Hawk, use skate boards and watch Jackass. Black kids idolize their basketball and football heroes. Thats why those sports are dominated by blacks
And that feeling will continue for at least the next 20 seasons. Sorry.

Serena Williams is still one of the most popular athletes in tennis.
The two most popular athletes in the sport of Tennis by some margin are Maria Sharapova and Annan Kournikova. I can't understand why...

You tend to like the guys you can relate to, especially in boxing. For example I relate to Ricky Hatton who has suffered from the same dispiriting and crushing gloom and disappointment as I have, being a lifelong supporter of Manchester City Football Club...

From what I have read, Rappers sell most of the records to "white" kids.
Joe Louis, Ali, and Tyson are three of the biggest names in Heavyweight history and they were (if you did not notice) of dark complexion.
Oscar vs. Floyd had huge numbers, both have a tint to there skin.
NFL, NBA, a good portion are “Black”
One of the most popular athletes even today is JORDAN.
I also hear that Kobe and maybe few others are selling more than Yao in his home country.
What about the “white” sport of GOLF, their biggest star is of color.
Serena Williams is still one of the most popular athletes in tennis.
PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER THIS SHIT ABOUT THE "COLOR" OF ONE'S SKIN.
WHAT ABOUT "EYE COLOR", DOES ANYBODY (OTHER THAN THE NAZIS) REALLY CARE TO MUCH IF A BLUE EYED PERSON DATES A BROWN EYED?
WE ALL HAVE ONE COLOR INSIDE, RED
