I have to show Greg Haugen some love because he could give Toney a run for his money. His thrash talking with Vinny Paz and Camacho was what lured me into boxing. He payed for bashing Chavez but the guy had nuts dissed JC in Mexico City and wasn't scared of any man.
I was gonna say Mayweather-Gatti, but that was a six-rounder. I'll have to think more about that one.
Chavez tortured Haugen that night. He carried him a bit just so he could beat him up some more.
Didn't Haugen start off in Toughman competitions or something like that?
Okay, I was confused at first.
He supposed beat 200+ pound men all the time in Alaskan toughman comps.
I think Haugen in general was underated. He didnt have amazing speed/power, but he was a pretty solid fighter and tough as hell. He had some very good wins imo.
The fight with Chavez was his complete end though...Im not sure if I remember a more one sided fight that went 5.

It means it was funny, And it was sort of a compliment.

I think the management just cashed out on Reid because he was vulernable and had that eye problem, they figured they'd get big money before he lost to someone like Kevin Kelly, who gave Reid a close fight.
Shame it happened but you are right about that I think. He should have been seasoned alot more I thought.

Felix ruined Reid and Vargas. Worst managed fighters I can recall outside of Maskaev.

Good points.....and Terry defenitley finished what Chavez started. That shit was brutal.
I think the Chavez fight was the main fight in the decline for Taylor, in general he took too much punishment.
Same with Vargas and Trinidad. Vargas had a lot of grueling fights in general, the Trinidad fight was the main fight for Vargas's decline, although like Taylor, he won a title afterwards.

He managed to pick up a title at 147 on talent alone though. The Norris fight ruined him for good imo.I threatened to beat a promoters ass on the radio for using Meldrick in a card a few years back, promoting it off his Gold Medal and Titles. He had no legit answers for me about using him though.

Rosario ruined Bramble forever with one right hand. I have never seen someones career fall apart so quickly.

The second Melderick Taylor hit the canvas against JC his career was essentially thru as well.
My old college roommate had a cat named Dog.
Bramble's trash talk was sometimes cruel, he called Mancini a "murdered" because of the Kim fight and he fought some other guy whose relative or something was a cop, so Bramble said he was dedicating the fight to this group in Philadelphia that supposedly killed a cop or something.
Thats all I had to read. good thread.
I'm sure he still has his mouth left. I mean if he could talk his way into fighting Chavez. I'm sure he could talk his way into doing your lawn or washing your car. I know, I know that's my job but now I'm just banging your wife full time.
Hell he should call Chavez and ask him if he could wash his Taxi's cabs at Chavez' company in Mexico. After all he started the rumor, and to 15 year olds here on the boards it has sticked. He could take his I pod and play born in the U.S.A for that extra inspiration.QUOTE]
Best entrance song ever...130K wild and smelly mexicans screaming and he comes in draped in the American flag...it was awesome.
When he was walking to the ring I remember my dad saying that if Haugen wins there is no way he is getting out of there alive.
Haugen couldnt punch, he was a bit above average with his boxing skills, wasnt necessarily very fast but the fucker was TOUGH as nails. He did as much with his talent as he could! Some guys get bless with blazing hand spee, some get thunder in their fists and other guys like Haugen have toughness...very few champions you find out there manage to get their when the number 1 attribute is toughness...Haugen will always be special in my book!
hahaha wild and smelly.
I get what you're saying. He was tough in his day and managed to do what he could with what little he had.

You bring up something I was just talking about the other day with my uncle.
Haugen was way past his prime when he was awarded the shot against Chavez and he got that shot largely in part because of his ability to run his mouth.
He was no longer a top contender but he got underneath JC Superstars skin just enough to make that fight a reality and in turn put a few bucks in his pocket.
.
Give Haugen credit for having more balls than brains.
I think he had both.
