Hanging out with an entourage of obnoxious knuckleheads hardly makes him a "thug". His actions do (or don't), his trash talk has little to do with it. It's nothing wrong with it. Throughout the history of boxing there has been trash talking. It completely healthy and can be used as a tool to get inside your oponent's head. It's not about being a thug because you trash talk.
