Like it or not, the UFC has been kicking boxings butt in PPV buys. SOmething which 3 or 4 years ago would have been unheard of.
DLH v PBF will draw PPV numbers which haven't been seen for a long time, it's an important statement for boxing to show we are still the Top Combat Sport. Now we know that just about every boxing fan will order this PPV, even the ones who bitch and moan etc BUT to get huge numbers, the casual sports fan has to order the PPV.
This is where we come in, we have to hype the fight to our non boxing buddies. All up i've gotten at least 10 people who never order Boxing PPVs interested enough to order the fight. Some of them i've given them dvds of PBF's fights to get them interested etc.
So please do your bit to help our sport
I can't get into ufc, everyone I know who watches it happens to be the biggest rednecks ever. Plus, only a moron would pay to watch 2 minute matches. Ufc=short pussy ass fights. They take a man out quick, while most boxers fight almost 12 full rounds. Boxers are train to fight for longer periods, while ufc fighters aren't.
lets not getting into to this with ufc viewers because it will all boil down to ppl having different preferences.
i cant hype it because
1. it is on ppv we dont get ppv down here, unless it is on dss, i only have cable
2. i aint interested in this fight, what is the point of this fight?, it is meaningless.
I've tried to hype this fight to my friends. Most of them except one are UFC fans so Im trying to get them to watch boxing. They actually used to watch boxing, but since UFC came more into the mainstream they switched to watching that excusively.
This may not be the best fight to get them back into boxing because it may not be totally action packed, but it's two names they know. I've tried to get them to watch some fights with me that I knew could be very exciting, but they didn't know the fighters so they didn't bother. So I think having a familarity with fighters is a key factor.
if where all trying to put boxing in the shop window to other would be fans would this be the 1 to wetten there appetites?
i dont think so.
we need a excitement fest of a fight coming up to hype up to friends
even though mayweather/de la hoya is the biggest fight in 5 years its not gonna live up to the hype its getting
if you wanna convert some casual fans into bigger boxing fans, u should get them to watch williams/margarito, zab/cotto or wlad/brewster... cause those fights are sure to have a lot of fireworks and a KO....
Exactly.
Fuck supporting this overhyped fight - the point of touting something as a major event is that everyone should already know about it. If you have to still tell people that DLH and Mayweather are fighting on May 5, then that's half of the problem right there.
Fans needed to tell non fans when Corrales and Castillo were first getting ready to fight two years ago. They needed to tell non-fans that Rafael Marquez was getting ready to face Israel Vazquez - in fact, Shaw used his own MMA promotion to help hype up that very fight, which was three weeks later.
I'm not telling anyone they HAVE to watch this fight, just so it can surpass a UFC event. I'm not a fan of UFC, MMA or any of that crap, but respect the fact that they do a much better job than boxing when it comes to marketing and promotion. Golden Boy and HBO elected to put all of its eggs in one basket, going to the extreme for this fight, when in fact events like Barrera-Marquez could've used even 1/10 of the push this card is getting, in order to do better than what it did.
GBP has fighters ready to defect, due to neglect all because of this card. All for a fight that will probably wind up, at best, an entertaining chess match.

I agree with guru; this might be a tactically interesting fight, but not the kind of thing that will make a boxing enthusiast of every casual sports fan.
With that said I have frequently mention to non-fans that May 5 will be the 'biggest' boxing match for a long time.
lol believe me...everytime i talk to my boys i hype this shit up...a couple of em' aint up on game cuz they just came back from iraq so i especially hyped it up for them....my girls even hypin it up lol...can't wait
