IBF flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan is confident of victory in a proposed fight against Fernando Montiel for the WBO super flyweight title on June 9. Vic also says talks are currently taking place for a clash with power puncher Jorge Arce in November. "I will fight Fernando Montiel on June 9 for WBO super flyweight title," Darchinyan said. "I have defeated his brother Alejandro a few years ago. Fernando is much stronger and more skillful but I will knock him out when we fight. I will punish him. My promoter Gary Shaw and Top Rank's Bob Arum are negotiating for me to fight Arce in November. I am looking forward to fighting Arce – he is very strong fighter. I can see mistakes Arce makes in the ring. A big mistake is fighting me. I am the stronger puncher. I will stop him before ten rounds." Vic is also very happy that recent IBF challenger Victor Burgos has been released from intensive care. "It was a big relief that Victor is out of intensive care," stated Darchinyan. "He was a courageous boxer. I think his cornerman should of stopped the fight earlier. The referee did a good job."

Pretty good fight. I'd take Darchinyan to pound out a decision, but Montiel would make it interesting. If Darchinyan beat Montiel and then went on to beat Arce in the fall he'd definitely have to be considered one of the 7-10 best fighters in the world. Then imagine him moving up to 118...taking on dudes like Jhonny Gonzalez and the like.
What do you guys think of this fight though.
This is an excellent matchup.Props to both fighters for making this fight. While it is very possible that Montiel can outbox Darchinyan, I'm going with Vic by 8th round ko.He will apply relentless pressure and wear him down for the ko win.
They've been trying to get a bout with Wonjongkam for a long time.
Made repeated offers & even offered to come over to Thailand to fight.
Wonjongkam's people apparently didn't even bother to reply.
I gotta go ahead and say that Rafael would take Darchniyan's head off. I'd like to see Gonzalez/Darchinyan though...after Vic *potentially* beats Arce. Gonzalez would probably be too big for him.
Johnny does have a bit of a chin question and Im sure Vic would do a little investigating.

vic's a special fighter, he'll bust montiel up and win a UD, vic's pressure would fold fernandito.
as far as rafa "exposing" vic, :nonono: a fighter of vic's calibre doesn't get exposed, that term's thrown around too loosely, rafa would simply beat vic.
however, if vic dominates montiel nasty style like he has the potential to do, then rafa might be looking at some bonafide competition from that crazy fukken armenian.
Glad another title-holder is finally stepping up to the plate to fight Vic.
Hopefully Montiel doesn't pull out, & I don't think he will.
Vic still seems a little raw, & think a slick boxer like Montiel will think he'll have enough to work with to pull it off.
Personally favour Vic by late stoppage, & I'm glad the quality level looks like jumping up.

Vic v. Arce must happen, on paper it could be our sports best matchup.
Exactly what a tremendous fight that would be. Montiel will give Vic a better fight then Burgos, but Vic should win a comfortable decision.
It is certainly a noteworthy matchup and a risky fight for Vic.
Im no fan of Fernando Montiel (he is a cutiepie)but he is a slick fighter who will be on his bicycle on night long.
Hard to predict a stoppage of Montiel since Johhny G couldnt do it but I would anticipate a Vic victory.
