in this interview months before the fight he said he has everything calzaghe has, including, speed, power, movement abilities, etc..
but today he didn't showed it. what really happened? wasn't he ready for the fight?.
your thoughts
I love this thread!
joes a fraud. Trying to fight an old ass hopkins instead of kessler. **** him, he wanted no part of kessler. After the fight he talked about fighting hopkins or jermaine taylor. ****ing kessler is leaps better then those two and he has belts. **** calfraud.
LOL
Manfredo deserves a rematch, fight was fixxed for calzaghe. I don't know if calzaghe realizes it was, but the ref was setup to give him that win. No way in hell should have they stopped that fight. Disgusting as hell, and calzaghe with his grin instead of being pissed off that the ref made his 20th defense look like shit. Those punches had no power behind it to give a man a comma or to give them brain damage. Peter was talking fine after the fight with no bruise on his face what so ever. **** wales
LOL
BEST POST EVER, AND DUMB ASSES ON THIS FORUM say i'm an alt but if you view my earlier posts I was all the way with calzaghe. But calzaghe looked terrible in this fight when manfredo could block as many punches as he did. Compbox lies, joe didn't land as many as it says
Pros on larry merchant: He called calzaghe out on kessler... And said what about kessler
Negatives: He bad mouth manfredo even though slappy landed next to nothing and the fight was stopped too early
It's bullshit when you can see what manfredo was trying to do. He was trying to pull an ali, by getting joe tired out because joes a moron who punches non-stop and doesn't pace himself well... Kind of like a young george foreman but leaps faster not nearly as strong
FLOL! If you (or Manfredo) think Calzaghe is gonna get tired, you're ****ing insane. Dude has enough stamina for a 24 round fight.
It Was A Mismatch Cause Calzaghe Choose It, no one forced him to fight a shitty contender fighter he choose to do that on his own. Everyone who watches boxing knows manfredo sucks ass. But he did better then i expected defensively for my taste. His defense was leaps better then lacy's in my opinion.
Calzaghe only has himself to blame for ****ing his career up by beating bums up. LOOK AT ME, IM JOE CALZAGHE, i beat up a slow ass muscle bound moron like lacy!!! IM NUMBER 1 CONTENDER... what horse shit
Err, no. Calzaghe never even wanted to fight Manfredo. HBO wanted it. Joe didn't "choose" Manfredo, he just got a good enough payday to warrant doing it, plus some name recognition in the US. Unfortunately, some of these Contender dudes were better known than the champions at the time.
Everyone knew he was crap, the point is why did he fight him?...
See above.
I've seen Steve Bunce interview Joe Calzaghe, and Joe was saying "I'm sick of fighting these kind of fights, I just can't get up for them. I'm bored."
Good money and a little more name recognition in the US are the reasons why this fight happened.

I actually though Calzaghe should have been more aggresive in the first 2 rounds, but then again, hes smart, and wasnt going to be careless and jump in straight away. Thats why he is still unbeaten.
To me it was a nothing fight. Im not sure what was worse...the matchup or the stoppage.
You know why I can't complain over the stoppage? Maybe it was a tad early but Peter Manfredo Jr. is in the biggest fight of his career. Possibly the biggest fight he will ever get. He has a chance to become super middlweight champion - in front of a massive crowd - and he covers up like a three year old playing 'peek-a-boo'. I mean, seriously, he said he was leaning against the ropes, moving and blocking against Joe's amateurish shots. Moving? What? Blocking? Sure, a bunch hit gloves- but Manfredo blocked more than a few with his face, too. My roommate walked into the room and saw this, saw that it was round three and sighed, "Don't tell me it's going to get stopped already...". This coming from a guy who barely watches boxing other than when I can make him sit down for a fight yet even he called it. You can't be in a massive fight and just decide to get hit for 30 seconds without answering back. At all.
My only regret is that the referee didn't let Joe Calzaghe put that journeymen on his ass.
Ive said this before but
manfredo was outclassed. Calaghes hand speed was blinding. He was just to fast for manfredo and manfredo was confused he didnt know what to do. He just couldnt handle calzaghes speed. So he just coverd up layed on the ropes and bobbed around randomly. He wasnt hurt and it didnt need to be stopped at that time. But i dont think manfredo woulda gotten anything done at all if it had gone on. But we will never know.

The Calzaghe - Manfredo fight was a mis-match, and saying Manfredo deserves a rematch is ridiculous. The guy isn't in the same league as Calzaghe. Yes, it was poor refereeing, but Calzaghe would have only went on to beat Manfredo (and possibly do some serious damage) had the fight not been stopped in round 3.
I visit many boxing forums and on the whole most fans are fair and knowledgable but Elitesoldier is possibly the biggest clown that I have ever encountered. His posts are embarassing and juvenile and he obviously has no idea what the hell he is talking about.
Anyway, I think the fight was stopped too early but I suppose a damn good beating was inevitable. I like Manfredo, he is an honest fighter and a decent bloke but was woefully outclassed in this contest. But then again, maybe Calzaghe might have run out of steam by the fourth! (According to the idiot that is Elite Soldier).the fight was stopped too early. but manfredo wasn't responding back. not even attempting to move his arms or nothing. i was expecting him to go more rounds.

Hitting on the side of the neck is legal. Hitting on the back of the head or neck is illegal, but it it is because the opponent's head is too low you will never get penalised for it.
Stoppage was a little premature, but let's be a little fair to the referee here, he must be aware of the massive gulf in class between Manfredo and Calzaghe and was probably looking for an opportunity to stop the fight before Manfredo got seriously hurt. The referee is responsible for the safety of the fighters, and let's be honest he was sitting on the ropes being hit at will. I don't see how a premature stoppage can have any reflection on the fighter either.
As for this crap about "English referees stop fights too soon", there are plenty of examples of premature stoppages everywhere in the world, and plenty of examples of fights which were allowed to continue in Britain when they should have been stopped.
Finally, what is this business of comparing Manfredo to Ali? Are you even thinking?
yep yep agreed.

Well, i thought rabbit punching is punching the dude in the side of the neck. He did that alot. Watch for it. When I googled rabbit punching. They consider it the neck region and the back of the head
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_punches
Guess im not going to get a response back now since it says rabbit punching is illegal. And it says the neck is rabbit punching aswell as the back of the head... hmmm... i don't remember calz getting any point deductions for doing it
WTF! Are you now suggesting that all fighters who hit someone on the neck get DQ? What are you on....are you taking the piss or being serious? Do you expect fighters to have radar like accuracy on everypunch. If you are fighting in the heat of battle it is 100% likely that you are gonna hit someone on the side of the neck with a stray punch! Its only when it is obvious and malicious that the ref should step in!
Everyone knew he was crap, the point is why did he fight him?...
Whether you like it or not, Manfredo is well known in America and it was a showcase fight for Calzaghe again. You are mouthing off about nothing! Why is Manny fighting Solis when we all know he is shit too? You are living in fantasy land expecting big fights all the time......we all know boxing doesnt work that way!
joes a fraud. Trying to fight an old ass hopkins instead of kessler. Fuck him, he wanted no part of kessler. After the fight he talked about fighting hopkins or jermaine taylor. Fucking kessler is leaps better then those two and he has belts. Fuck calfraud.
You are full of shit mate! You clearly havent a clue what you are talking about! Kessler has turned down an offer to fight Calzaghe this summer.......so it isnt Joe who is ducking anybody! Kessler is not leaps better than those two so wipe the shit of your mouth.........fool!
I dont have the answer!
Everyone knew he was crap, the point is why did he fight him?...
:boxing: I hear ya what your saying but I don't have the answer m8! When this fight was Anounced I couldn't believe what I was hearing to be honest..Maybe Suger Ray pulled a few strings, (Maybe) I cant believe Manfred is ranked number 6..thats a joke isnt it?:boxing:
Some times I cant understand some of the guys views on here..Joe is a damn good fighter he fought a crap boxer, who had nothing to show.. Lets get real, Manf never had a chance of winning, And I do believe if he didnt get knocked out in the next 10 secounds or so he would be out in the 4th. I think the first round Joe was just sizing him up, Went back to his corner and thought this guy is a real pussy,Can't believe how easy this is gonna be. As for the Hessler fight! Joe needs to be fighting in July which Hessler cant do for some reason, So I think they might fight Taylor!
(which is a fight I wuld love to see) Or Hopkins. Then the Hessler fight will be on..I hope...But Joe aint gonna be Ducking anyone lets make it right he never has and never will.
rewatched, there was a few little punches behnd the head in a clinch early in the first round, tiny taps, other than that the only foul I saw from calazghe was hitting on the break (marginally).
Mate looking for dirt in this fight is completely missing the point anyway. It was a mismatch, plain and simple. that is the thing it is worth focussing on, and everyone agrees joe needs a big fight next up against Hopkns No.1 at 174 or taylor no.1 at 160 pr kessler no.2 at 168.
Theres a distinct difference between rabbit punching and landing to the side/back of the head because someone ducks into your punch. I've watched the fight twice and I didnt' see any rabbit punching, but I'll watch again to check. It's not something I'd expect though.
Yeah, a 75% KO ratio certainly says that he's got no power. FFS.
He's probably not got the raw KO power he had in the mid-90s but I'd put that down to weight draining as much as dodgy hands.
