:boxing: Joe Calzaghe has been quoted by saying he will retire in 12-16 months that only gives him a few fights..what fights do you think they will be..one must be Kessler:boxing:
just another british boxer that thinks they are better than they really are
Who are the others?
by the way tyson is not god. every good fighter he faced kicked his ass, and Danny Williams.
It doesn't take much to dismantle the poor logic of a Calzone fanboy. Even more impressive is the fact that you still fail to name a single great fighter that Calzone ever defeated. Has he accomplished anything at all? Not really. It's impressive that Calzone has no shame at all that he is fighting Manfrodo. Wow, what a champion!
Who exactly considered Lacy to be "the top fighter in the world" exactly? Give me the link to any article in a reputable publication that said this.
Let me guess, you also believe Peter to be a great fighter too? He may become one someday, but he isn't today.
Eubank? Eubank, like typical euro "champs" was only a great euro fighter. It seems euro fighters believe mediocrity is enough for greatness.
And pray tell what Lacy every accomplished that makes him a great fighter?
You want me to use triangular logic? Like how Eubank beat Benn...who beat your great Big G? Or would you prefer to simply admit that he was a great fighter?
Whether you like it or not, Lacy was an undefeated champion who many considered to be the top fighter in the world at the time. Hindsight is very powerful.
As for 40s, great fighters like Hopkins, Larry Holmes, and George Foreman all accomplished great things at 40. I guess Calzone just doesn't have champion material to do the same.
Thats 3 guys you've named. Impressive work. 3 whole fighters.
Those were your standards, not mine. Why should a boxer continue into his 40s?
And whatever your judgement, Lacy and Eubank were great fighters.

i want to see him fight hopkins, taylor & dawson before he retires, but i think frank will prob put him in against kessler and another 2 bums like manfredo.
Oh wow, by those standards Valuev is like Muhammed Ali!
Still waiting on you to name one great fighter that Calzone has on his record? Why can't Calzone become light heavyweight champion before he is 40?
Oh yeah, he's not a great fighter and never will be. I guess we won't see Calzone fighting a heavyweight anytime soon, let alone challenging one. Retire Calzone, do boxing a favor.

If Calzaghe is truly concerned about his legacy, and I believe he is because he has made more than his share of money during his career. Then he should listen to what the fans want. And a fight with Kessler is indeed a must and would do wonders for his reputation and if successful then Hopkins or if he dares Chad Dawson. Then Calzaghe will have at least proved his mettle to the best of his abilities minus the fact him and Ottke never met in the ring.
If he wants to cement his legacy in that short amount of time he'll need to either unify the division against Kessler or move up and fight one of the lhw champs.I would suggest he fight Woods. Not saying that Woods would be an easy fight and honestly I wouldn't be suprised if Woods beat JC.Chad Dawson may be too strong and young for JC at this point.
You go ahead and name me all the fantastic boxing greats who either a). Retired undefeated as champion after the age of 35, or b). Won/defended their title into their 40s.

Retiring at 35. And just think. Bernard will probably have defeated a heavyweight by then. Just another difference between great fighters and padded myths.

Won't happen. People can look at some of joes old fights, pick out flaws from joe. But if you look at joe now, you can see with each fight he gets better and better. And people won't give him credit now but he has fought some tough people.
Anything can happen. Rahman vs Lewis. Tyson vs Douglas. Honeyghan vs Curry. Llang vs Duran.
He is a good fighter, but his opponents are not that great, more than 70% of his opponents are natural in Middle, Light Middle. Evans Ashira has faught at 132KG and Manfredo has lost to a Light Welter. Even Eubank was a Natural Middleweight.
He needs to now prove hes so good by beating some big SMWs.
He would even get my respect by fighting Clinton Woods who is bigger than Joe and one tough motha.
I don't know, I saw an article the other day on another site and in that, Calzaghe was quoted as saying he might fight on until he's 40! :)
Match against Kessler would be good and if successful, a move up to light heavy might be on the cards. Joe says he wants to win a title at two weights.
?????
A week ago on tv he said he wanted to retire in a few years.
I know which source is more reliable.
Dont care about what you believe Im just tellin ya what I heard...Sarky Ewwwww
If he beats Hopkins people will say blown up middleweight.
He Should fight
Manfredo
Kessler
You Know Who!!! im trying very hard not to upset Miksterious.
What if he loses, will he not retire and look for a rematch???
