Would a prime Gatti have beaten a prime Hatton? 140 weight. What do you think? I'm just watching Gatti-Ward I, and I'm kind of thinking Gatti would have.
Ian
ima have to go with gatti on this, he has the more experience and fought diff fighters, remeber hatton juss go to the US, and hasnt fought many fighters to prove he is good as people say, plus in all his fights he hold on non stop,

Based on what? Why that fight? Gatti lost officially (a draw IMO) and was nearly stopped by the slow Ward. Ward was a vicious body puncher but slow and a lesser fighter than Ricky. Hatton has better boxing skills than him and better at cutting off the ring.
Hatton will hug Gatti 500 times I bet.
Hatton is nothing but a hugging overhyped nobody.
Insightful. What's your PhD in, "Professor"?
If I had to be honest I think that Hatton would have just as much a chance against Gatti if they fought at 147. After all Gatti struggled in the same way that Hatton did once he moved up and came off far worse, even with a tune up at the weight against Damgaard.
I need to to see that again. I know it was a great recovery and performance from Hatton, but i also remember Magee staying on the ropes and not moving much. He was dangerous but at the end of his career.
True enough he wasn't spectacular but the way Hatton overcame the early setback to thoroughly dominate and break down a spiteful and vicious counterpunching southpaw was awesome!
Watch Hatton's fights against Oliveira, Phillips, Magee and Tackie. I actually think that his best performance (outside Kostya Tszyu) were rounds 3-12 against Eamonn Magee. He got put on the floor in the first, adjusted in the second and romped his way to victory thereafter. Brilliant stuff.

hatton wont "outbox" gatti because he wont try too, i think it could be similiar to ward vs gatti, with hatton winning by UD, gatti is a stronger puncher then hatton also
Hatton can box very well wen he chooses to, like the first few rounds against Urango.
He could do the same, or try to, against Gatti who is a pro at brawling.

WOW, watching a prime fighter vs. shot fighters is great to watch.
I would take a prime (meaning drug free and training hard), Vince Phillips over Hatton.
And there is a reason why Hatton looked impressive against Tszyu, but I have stated it enough for now.
I think some people just underestimate Hatton's ability. I think some people just see him as a dirty brawler, but to get where he's got to you need more than that. He's a crafty operator, not just a hot head. I do think there was perhaps a bit too much holding in his last fight, but he did look good early on. There's more to him than Gatti, but he needs a few more big fights to really prove himself, one of which is coming up.

I have only seen Hatton against Colluzo,Kosta and Urango...from what I have seen,I'll take Gatti.
Big heart, stronger and better boxer from what I have seen...
Doesn't make me a Hatton hater, just going by what I have seen.
I can't recall Gatti ever hugging like Hatton...Gatti was all warrior.
I always thought that Gatti was a harder puncher but that Hatton was far stronger and worked more. I would expect Hatton to come to a wide decision over Gatti back in Gatti's prime, and an early stoppage now.
I'm loving that City logo!!! MCFC till I die.
Thanks! I'm hoping we can get past Blackburn tomorrow.
on paper hatton is the better fighter, but styles make fights, hatton wont "outbox" gatti because he wont try too, i think it could be similiar to ward vs gatti, with hatton winning by UD, gatti is a stronger puncher then hatton also
Gatti was never really an elite level fighter while Hatton is. The difference between Hatton and Gatti is that Hatton will do what it takes to win. Gatti has two modes: Boxing and brawling. Hatton has a bit more in his locker. And Hatton is a big step above Mickey Ward though I can understand the comparison.
I just can't help thinking Gatti was a touch too quick for Hatton, his combinations against just about everyone I've seen him fight (apart from Floyd) were so shit hot.
